If the back is completely clean and tight -- remember that even a gentle crease or small discreet stain on the back would drop the book several grades -- I'd guess 9.2 to 9.4.

You mentioned sentimental value, so I can't see why you wouldn't buy the book. But if you plan to slab and you won't be satisfied with a grade that doesn't have a 9 in front of it, you'll want to scrutinize it carefully first. (Personally I would just leave it in Mylar and enjoy.)

Thank you so much for the input, I was thinking of pulling the trigger, but ideally I am going to wait as you are right it could be lower and really was looking at 9.6ish...crazy I know I need a crummy 9.6 at least :) On second thoughts the misaligned spine has always been a no no and was temporarily blinded by it being cheaper but I don't think it would get 9.6 anyway now that you say 9.2-9.4. Thanks again!

  2. I am thinking of having this CGC'd. What grade would you guys estimate this as? It has white pages and the back is like the front. Thank you so much for any help in advance :) I know it's not worth much at all but this issue would have sentimental aspects to it should you think it has a high grade!

My whole set is an unread pedigree quality set bought from the OO (known as the Monterey collection). I bought them 25 years ago and immediately put them in Mylar.

Don't know what CGC would grade it, but you can tell it's nice

Thanks for posting :) Thats a beaut! Probably a 9.6  or even higher! Good job holding and taking care of these! Thanks again Silver.

Those cover similarities can't be a coincidence, that's pretty cool. Tarzan coming over to DC was a pretty big deal at the time.

    Hi Silver,

If you don't mind me asking what grade is your Tarzan 225 in?  You said you had a number of high grades copies. Whats weird is that there are huge chunks missing from the DC Tarzan line in high grade. Recently a couple came on the market...they  max out at 9.6's at best. Its super rare to find any 9.8's.

As a kid growing up in the seventies Aparo was 'the Batman artist' (I was a big Brave and the Bold fan) but I think some of his best cover works were on the less popular stuff like the aforementioned Spectre Run in Adventure Comics and Phantom Stranger.

Am originally from the UK and we had comics like Janus Stark in an inverse way kind of like PS ish.... I grew up reading reprints or left overs from my elder brothers in the late seventies early eighties...good times and good stuff!

This one was right around $1k. Another came up on eBay later that month for less, so I'd say you're looking at around $700-1000 for a 9.4.

I actually did get this reholdered earlier this summer, just haven't had a chance to take a photo in the new case. The colors pop so much better now with the upgraded case.

Hi Martin, Thank you so much  for letting me know. Ouch I had no idea it would be that expensive. I thought they would go for 500-700 max. I guess I am delusional or a wishful thinker... that is out of my league with the price. Big congrats for securing the buy:) If one other one does come up. I will bid and try to stay in but my threshold isn't like you guys!

Its amazing how the colors make all the difference especially when the book is so old. I was always amazed with how Mylar made books look! Congrats again! Thanks for the pic and sharing.

Glad to see this thread back. Here's an upgrade I picked up a CLink or two ago. Would love to see this one in the new holder....

That's awesome just seeing this now! If you don't mind me asking how much does 9.4 go for generally as am keeping my eye out for a high grade! I thought that was the new CGC holder....

  8. I think this is my favorite Batman maybe of all time as a cover: Detective 395 (pic added for those visually inclined). I like that it is a ghost type story, and sorry if there are Robin fans around here, but like it too that Batman is on his own not to mention NA art of course! Alas it is way too expensive in high grade as there are no 9.8's and a 9.6 went for over 3k!
