A high resolution photo would be large. That one is is thumbnail sized, about 500 x 700 pixels

Gosh Pontoon thank you so much! Man I have a lot to learn about scanners and such! I really appreciate your feedback and nice trick with the scans ;)

It's still an LQ photo, and images of raw comics will always appear better than pictures of slabs.

Educated guess: Side-by-side, the raw and the encapsulated comics would look quite the same.

Thanks theCapraAegagrus. i was told that the CGC pic was a high resolutiun but I think you are right its a bad photo perhaps too...Thank you again! :)

It's not. It's just a place where the ink didn't adhere to the plate on the red plate. The sharp corners suggest a stray piece of paper got stuck to the red plate. It's backwards for a sticker mark (that is, a sticker "fade" would leave the area under the sticker darker than the surrounding area, and there's no discoloration in the other colors.) If it was a "leach" of the red ink from sticker adhesive, the rest of the area would show some signs as well.

OP, if you check the gloss in the area, you'll almost certainly notice no break in the gloss.

Wow thanks RockMyAmadeus you are right!

I think that's an old sticker mark. I see this on a lot of comics over here in the UK, usually from Forbidden Planet and Dark They Were, as they used to put them on all their books. I had some the other day, Took the stickers off and quite often they leave discoloration marks like this.

Thanks herc2000. I remember going to FP when it was at 23 Denmark Street, when it was real comic shop!

Printing defect. I personally hate these, especially the unsightly ones like this.  Although mechanically it’s not supposed to affect the grade, I do think it makes it less desirable though.  If you present two books of identical grade to someone for sale, but one has a defect like this and other doesn’t, I’d bet most would choose the unblemished one.

Thanks Brian48. Yes I would totally take the unblemished one too! Thanks for letting me know about the defect not being worth anything!

I have to agree. I really don't know how much sense would make to choose the one over the other as an investment move but I am personally more than happy with my #9 8.0 and I wouldn't change it for a #33 9.6 or 9.8. I am also happy with my #33 8.5. Why not have both in slightly lower grades if you really like the books?

Hi SECollector you are super luck to own those, I think at this point I might have to set my sights lower grade wise due to unforeseen circumstances and se If I can afford a decent looking 9 maybe in a lower grade (Good luck I hear you all say and you are right! I would need lots of it!) Thanks for sharing what you have :)

Grading can be somewhat inconsistent so I would go by eye appeal more than the number on the slab. I would gladly buy a beautiful 7.0 over a flawed 8.0. That being said, I only have two graded books in my ASM collection, three if you count my Golden Record #1. I like my books raw, just like my...oh, never mind.

LOL JohnH19! Too true I have seen some copies graded higher technically, and yet the lower grade presented much better, I do need to remember to take that into account too.

It's a tough choice but as a collector, not an investor, I would go for the lower number issue. A 9.8 #33 is quite a find but there's a certain magic in single digit Spideys, especially high grade copies. Also, don't disregard #9's great blue cover. It's a real eye catcher.

    Hi JohnH19,

I like your thinking...I wish I could say I was an investor more so, but if I like a book more, then  I am willing to take what I like over what I should buy if that makes sense! I really do like that blue cover.....Same goes with the singe digit numbering really drawn to that as well.
