If you put together "worst" and "value" (meaning worth), you get "worst value" ( $0.00 ). I'm sure an argument can be made for negative value. But almost all art is closer to $0.00 than the current all-time high price. There were so many publishers in the Golden Age. And a decent amount of the original art survives. But the great, great majority of that has very little value (objectively). The Golden Age exceptions include splashes, GGA and any art that features characters that are generally known today.

These names seem kind of... droid-ish.

Maybe only because there was some tangential relationship to "Space Ghost" which Alex Toth did have a hand in creating. It's possible someone simply googled "space ghosts" which came up with Toth's name. Since the art was dated 1966 and Space Ghost also appeared in 1966, that someone (who maybe only had passing knowledge re: comics) decided to add Alex Toth to the auction description. Do the characters look the same ?? No. But you know, you google "space ghosts" and you have three of them over here... you have three of them over there... it's a match !! Getting a dealer to critique another dealer's stock?? I don't see it happening. You can also suggest replacing "stock" with "pricing"... also not going to happen. Maybe having dealers trying to sell you on badly damaged art... amateur art... less marketable artists?? On one hand, I don't think dealers want to stock art that they think will be a tough sell. On the other hand, it would be fun to watch. Maybe a reverse claim show ? People send scans to Bill "live" during the show, no advance info. And only the dealers can bid against each other to buy it. Noone in the chat can buy during the show. A little contrived with a shilling risk but maybe fun to watch.

Regardless of the dealers and art that are involved, I think you'd start to hear rumors of "shilling". Anyway, dealers seem to trade among themselves enough that the "buy" requirement can't be realistically enforced. Your proposed rules are too complex compared to how the chat can go crazy in a "regular" claim format. One of the concerns is that dealers have enough inventory to do these shows on a regular basis. Having 3 pieces of art in the same price range per round is a pretty high hurdle. Even if you take the same number of pieces in regular claim format and combine them in groups of three, the talking / discussing / debating about the choice can slow down the show. For better or worse, the regular claim format lets each piece stand on its own (vs in a group).

I was only casually interested in a few HA lots. But I was more focused on the Hakes auction which was also closing on June 30. I switched off between Hakes and Dueling Dealers. By the time I remembered about HA, the lots had already sold (no big loss).

Not that I was all THAT serious about buying comics. But I missed some HA comics auctions because I was actually focusing on HA's Wednesday comic art auctions.

Someone contacted me re: the same thing (ComicConnect's seemingly excessive shipping cost). He contacted CC and apparently the shipping cost was generated by the website and was incorrect. So he got an updated shipping cost. I suggest you also contact CC.

I think someone once commented that ComicConnect might be offered art to put up for auction but they'll buy it outright (and never auction it). I've never tried selling / auctioning via ComicConnect. ComicConnect does have extended bidding. Although I haven't thought about how that could affect sniping. I'm all for competing auctions, it might keep the premiums down.

19 bids and it sold for $ 155.00. To me, that means none of the bidders REALLY needed to own that piece. I wonder if it went through extended bidding after the "official" auction close.

Regardless of the "morality" of getting a sketch inked by another... or the aesthetics of the finished art, I hate seeing a penciled piece signed in pencil and it also being signed in ink by the inker. It's all too "literal" for me.
