Aside from upfront travel costs and possibly current exchange, my biggest issue would be being in Italy and not being much of a drinker (especially wine).

I KNEW it !!! ! ! ! Actually, I didn't. OK, here's a big "get" in my collecting niche. Alex Ross' character design for Black Canary III from Kingdom Come, The figure really is that close to the bottom of the paper. I was an underbidder for a great page featuring the character, maybe I'll get another shot some day.

I'm on the waiting list. Jackson Guice should really be a superstar artist. Not sure why he isn't. I think realistic styles in general just aren't a thing these days.

Sometimes you just have to buy what you like. For OP @KirbyCollector did the page come from an issue with nostalgic value ? Or was there really some pure artistic interest in that panel ?

I think knowing the cover in question would yield more appropriate recommendations. Otherwise, you might as well search for recreations on CAF and pick an artist on your own.

Just because the sale price isn't displayed doesn't mean they don't know that number. Bill used to report the top aggregate dealer sales number in dollars, (I think) number of pieces and (I think) specific high dollar pieces.

I'm sure some of that is because on ComicArtLive, Bill used to (or still does) give numbers on top sales (aggregate or individual pieces) of dealers that Bill is hosting. And my guess is some of that could be useful for the dealers own accounting purposes. However, just because Bill is keeping track of sales, that doesn't mean it has to be displayed in the dealer's inventory after it has sold. Bill seems to allow for some variation, for example, you can see just sold/for sale/all pieces for Albert. For Mitch, sold pieces are taken down altogether.

That goes along with that theory where: the more choices a person has, the less satisfied they are with their selection. And in your example, a totally unrealistic choice was given.

Maybe the only advantage to a dealer that displays sold pieces: See all those sold pieces ?? My prices are totally reasonable, so buy something.

OP didn't seem to be referencing a specific piece of interest, just a general idea of what he wants. So the only part of the transaction known to OP is what he has to offer in trade. I like the "4 quarters < $1.00 bill" analogy. On the other hand, I could see a dealer wanting to "change" their $1.00 bill into 4 (or 5, 6, etc) quarters because it's cash flow or diversifying. From the stories about the much maligned "Los Bros", they don't care about cash flow. But some dealers might. HA is certainly willing to auction Kirby's non-splashes and even non-Kirby art. And I think @artdealer has mentioned in the past that a lot of dealers are selling some art on consignment. So dealers don't have so much flexibility that they can trade art that they don't actually own. Also, great Moon Knight cover art, it certainly appears better than how it looks in print. I'm sure your quarters are better than my $1.00 bills.

Here's my entry, Twilight 2 page 46 (1991), written by Howard Chaykin, drawn by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez and lettered by Ken Bruzenak. Lettering for this 3 issue mini-series was pasted on. Not necessarily for this page but I have a guess that some dialog was rewritten after the pages were drawn because there's an unusual amount of word balloons with pretty long tails. Just very strange when JLGL is drawing a story. And when you see these pages for sale, they're usually missing some lettering. I got this page from Scott Dunbier back when he was originally selling art for JLGL. It's not pertinent to the story but this line makes for a fun page. I'm not a cat person but this page has my favorite line of the series: You're pretty sharp for a biped, that is-- but anybody who expects gratitude from a cat is a real azzhole."

Was able to read the article. It looks like the article has been edited and that quote is no longer there. I got the impression the article was expanded. For example, Motor Vehicle Theft currently has a separate heading/paragraph.
