  1. The plot thickens..... Seriously though - that is disgusting that someone would do that. One thing I didn't see mentioned was maybe this should be passed along to all the dealers. If the person realized they can't sell the work easily online now, maybe they will try to approach a dealer online or at a convention for a trade or cash.
  2. $12K for the new Red Sonja cover. I really like almost all of Amanda and Jimmy's work, but in terms of art it just normally out of my impulse buy category. Like the previously Red Sonja cover. Looks really nice, I'd like it, but no way I could just willy-nilly drop even close to 12K on it.
  3. I ended up with the one piece I bid on and wanted. Ended up going for more than I anticipated. There was another very similar piece right before it that I didn't bid on hoping that it would keep someone away from the one I wanted. Then the next one came up and the bidding back an forth started. My friend was over as I was bidding and got to listen to me go "Come on, I let you have the other one" as I whined each time I had to bid again.
  4. So does that mean that Loeb was cosplaying as Ralph Macchio who plays that Karate Kid which is apparently yellow-face (I hope the sequel TV show from earlier this year knows!!). It's like a racist version of Inception!
  5. Since Jeff Loeb is guilty of yellowface for wearing a gi, is every non-Asian person who cosplays as Ryu from Street Fighter also guilty of yellow-face?
  6. You aren't missing anything - nothing was racist. The show had some other problems with fight scenes, acting, etc., but racism wasn't one of them. It was overall the weakest show out of the main four. I thought Jessica Jones season 2 may have been worse than Iron Fist season 2, but Jessica Jones had some extremely great moments that make it much better overall.
  7. That is very weird that someone would steal a cover and try to then have it signed. Is it possible that someone pirated his table when he was away at panels? I've seen sometimes that artists will leave everything on their table and maybe throw a sheet or some plastic over their stuff, or just put it all in some bags below/behind the table. Could someone have jumped behind for a short time and sell something to keep the money? Just seems crazy to steal something and then ask the artist to sign it a few minutes later. I'm assuming it was kept in a portfolio so for it to be stolen the portfolio must've been there when Erik wasn't there or extremely distracted.
  8. Excellent summary. Like many things the truth falls in the middle of what both sides scream from the rooftops. I thought the Frank Cho developments were interesting after so much of that crowd supported him throughout all the negative coverage and articles written about him and his response with the "outrage" covers.
  9. That sounds like a problem with society and we shouldn't encourage it. The fact that certain segments frown upon some forms of art shouldn't dictate what is allowed and not. Especially where this is an 18+ comic and it wasn't a sexual scene. It wasn't like it was an issue of Cherry Poptart.
  10. Why was it a cheap publicity stunt? It wasn't a sex scene or Batman standing at attention. It was him returning back to the cave after a near death experience. Limping through the cave as he steps out of his suit. We see him covered in scars as the trauma is listed. Battered, beaten and almost vulnerable even though he is still 100% focused. This was also the 18+ line. We joke here because it is getting a lot of coverage, but it honestly seems like not a big deal at all. I can read a Garth Ennis comic where someone is strung up by their intestines while still alive, but a completely non-sexual scene with a small amount of nudity is "unprofessional" and a sign that Lee Bermejo is a bad artist? Or something is wrong with Brian Azzarello? Maybe a random bat should of flown by right at the correct time to block the disgusting image, or Alfred could've been holding a teapot? My only hope is that this doesn't get all the focus and it is hopefully a good story. 100 Bullets was one of my first favorites.
  11. That's interesting. I kind of want to maybe get it for the novelty purpose. I'll have to keep an eye out since you can't prebuy pages on Splash Page Art. it can be the great cosmic balance to the Vampirella, Red Sonja and good girl art. Indeed.....
  12. I might regret not putting some more juice into that Harley & Ivy by Bruce Timm. They just felt a little super deformed/chibi to me and I was hemming and hawing about it this evening. I have some Bruce Timm works already and if I'd rather drop some more money and get one thing I really like instead of seeing it pop up later and feeling like I already got one. Something like this http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=725529 I would've thrown much bigger bids at. Oh well it will give me sometime to collect some funds for NYCC and recover from some other pieces.
  13. Hi - I was wondering what happened to the Vampirella pieces that were set to end on Sunday? Just says there was an error with the listing and they were pulled down. Will they be going back up for auction at a later time?
  14. I have absolutely no horse in this race, but it sounds like from the back and forth it may have just been either one person misspoke or one person misheard. If the actual price difference is what is really the root of the back and forth. Asking price is $90K, but you said you'd take $80K. He says asking price was $90K, but you'd take $85K.
  15. I was actually going to post a topic very similar to this - obviously in response to the Batman wedding. I was wondering how people feel who prebuy art. Obviously this cover is a big example, but another example of an event falling through was just Kitty's wedding in X-men about 2 months ago I would feel unhappy if I bought a wedding cover and then they never got married. I agree with Mr. Machismo - I saw the post last month about the Batman 50 artwork and cover, and it just feels kind of crappy to hype it up like that knowing that it was going to be a big letdown and there would be no wedding in the "wedding issue". Obviously an artist deserves to get paid - but with an issue that everyone knows is going to be a letdown/controversial they should've held back until after release I also would be let down if I bought something that I thought was going to be a significant event that never occurred. Hopefully storywise King saves it though, because right now it seems like every other Batman story where he loses his love. I feel like better versions of stories like this just happened at the end of New 52 where he breaks off his engagement and becomes Batman again, or from a few years before where he is going to get married (to Natalya) and retire Batman but she is killed (thrown out of a helicopter smashing into the Bat-signal).
  16. That is very cool. Nausicaa is one of my favorite films/manga. I think a big part is that manga artists never sell their work, and Miyazaki is probably one of the most respected filmmakers and artists in Japan with stuff like Spirited Away, Totoro, Prince Mononoke, etc. Like 6 months ago the topic of manga art came up and the few sketches by author artists that have sneaked out have commanded hefty premiums (not this high of course). Like for example some sketches similar to this by Toriyama for Dragon Ball were in the $50K - $60K range.
  17. Quick question for when paying on comiclink. It says on the checkout that you can do a bank transfer to save the 3% fee, but don't see any options for that on checkout. Do you have to call up for that (unlike how that is the default on heritage)?
  18. I won the Swamp Thing prelim painting (along with the Adam Hughes Ghost French Variant cover). It was kind of a spur of the moment purchase. I saw it up there the day before when going through the auction and remembered how much I loved that run of Swamp Thing (also it being the last issue of the arc and just a very cool image). It and Miracle Man were two of the first comics I started when I got into comics like 10 years ago. Before that I had just started reading comics and only got into after buying a few compilations of Marvel Zombies (hah). I tried to google around and see what kind of price to expect - but I didn't really see anything comparable to go off of so I just winged it. Both things I purchased did go for a bit more than I thought. I've seen Adam Hughes at cons a few times the last few years, but never found anything that jumped out at me when flipping through his portfolio and I really liked Ghost when I read it a while back.
  19. Well I went for 1 for 2 out of the ones I will most interested in. I picked up the Alex Ross Miss Fury cover. I really loved that run in 2013 (not as much the more recent 2017 one). I was also going for the Black Cat/Catwoman Adam Hughes. I hesitated to put another bid in that would bring me over 10K for it, and by the time I clicked it didn't register in time. Oh well I'll put the money back below the mattress for comiclink in a few weeks. I'm still trying to get an Adam Hughes piece I really like. I was outbid on this one and then fell asleep during the auction for a Red Sonja last year.
  20. The one thing I'm hoping to get is starting to inch up closer to what the cost to buy it directly would have been. I guess we will see how it pans out.
  21. He feels just so much like a second Joker that he seems unnecessary long term. He is awesome right now in the special crossover event, but what would you do with him later on? Unless he goes back to where he came from or off to some different universe. I passed on grabbing the OA from the origin because I felt like I'd rather have an epic Joker piece at some point instead of Joker Batman.
  22. I've never had the issue with art - but other items I've collected. I've done the same things as above. Sealed up in plastic container along with some fabric softener sheets in there. I usually leave it in there for a few weeks or so just to make sure and things have been good after. Of course the items then smelled like fabric softener, but that is better than smoke. For odors in apartments, landlords usually try use an ozone machine to eliminate smoke and other smells.
  23. That is how I feel about SGM's writing. His art is amazing and pairs perfectly with the writing of Remender, Snyder, etc. I'm not sold on SGM as a writer though and wonder if he might hurt himself long term by not working with writers anymore.
  24. The only places I think you'd ever see artwork by manga artists is on Yahoo Japan auctions or Mandrake. Apparently there have been a few small sketches on there this year http://ekizo.mandarake.co.jp/auction/item/itemInfoEn.html?index=508768 http://ekizo.mandarake.co.jp/auction/item/itemInfoEn.html?index=508766 I've always wondered what happens to the stacks for pages of long running series. Like Berserk, Dragon Ball, etc. Are there just thousands of pages in a closet somewhere or do they got tossed eventually? Good luck!
  25. I was keeping my eye on the Red Sonja cover by Dell'Otto - it is probably better that there is a reserve on it now for $4500. If I got sucked into an auction war for it I may have gone wild where I think I will just pass now. I already have a Dell'Otto Red Sonja cover that I think is my favorite of the ones he's done.
