  1. I would agree. #22 through 27 in particular are almost identical in style to his Millie books from that time period. The goofy faced patient on #18 also was characteristic of DeCarlo. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that anyone ever confirmed any of this with him while he was still alive.
  2. Here's another impressive price. Nellie This is also another book with what I believe is a Dan DeCarlo cover. Nellie has his trademark hips and lips from that era.
  3. I'm pretty shocked. I picked most of these up nearly a decade ago when no one wanted them. For me, #8 was by far the toughest issue to find of the Mitzi books. I wonder if they had sold a copy of #10 with the painted cover. That one doesn't show up too often either.
  4. Photobucket deleted my scan of Betty and Veronica #68 for the same reason. I never received a notification about it, it just shows up in my uploads as deleted due to not complying with terms and conditions.
  5. That's a pretty good rule of thumb. Also, the legs could tend to be knock kneed. There are a number of non Millie covers that I believe are DeCarlo as well. The only signed artwork I've seen of his for Timely was for Millie and Irma but I think he did quite a bit more for them as well. Here are a few that I think are his work:
  6. Same here. The daggers from the eyes are a nice touch!
  7. Here are a few covers with the same theme. It seems that Millie and Jeanie have the same problem.
  8. I applaud you for wanting reading copies as well. Most of the 1940's Timely humor books are a lot of fun to read and having them sealed in slabs is no fun. Your reading copies look pretty nice too!
  9. Those are some really pretty books and an interesting mix of teen titles also!
  10. The boards can be both frustrating and nice at the same time. It's nice that they provide exposure to overlooked comics but it's frustrating when you have to add them to your want list. I think my golden age collection would be about half the size it is now except I kept adding books that I saw on the boards. My retirement savings would also have a lot larger balance too!
  11. Welcome to the boards! You've got some nice books here! Your collecting history sounds a lot like mine. I was buying new books in the 70's, then stopped, then came the ebay buying spree. Luckily you have #50 already since that one is escalating in price just like the early issues.
  12. Here's a recent addition. This seemed to be the hardest for me to find of the first 10 issues of Patsy and Hedy: #4 has a nice swimsuit cover as well:
  13. I love those early Millie's. To continue on with some Millie the Model, I recently picked up this Millie cover recreation by DeCarlo. It was actually commissioned by John Lucas in 1991. Lucas was one of the artists responsible for reviving the Katy Keene title in the 1980's. Lucas did the inking himself. I like how DeCarlo tweaked the layout a bit and filled out the background rather than doing an exact copy of the original. I don't recall ever seeing any original Millie art for sale by DeCarlo so I figured this was the next best thing. There's tons of the later stuff by Goldberg available but there doesn't seem to be anything by DeCarlo.
  14. Jughead looked stoned half the time anyway. They just finally acknowledged why! Even in the 40's he looked like his brain was toast.
  15. Finally, the last issue I needed to complete the set! I need to upgrade a few but I finally have all 11 issues!
  16. I think that #2 was the last issue I found but #4 seemed near impossible to find as well.
  17. Girls' Life 4 through 6 - In the final issue, the letter from Patsy mentions preparation for the upcoming issue which never happened. Wonder how many disappointed girls went looking for the next issue only to never find it!
  18. I'm in the process of scanning nearly all my pre-1965 comics. I'll have to post the Girls' Life issues. I finished the run about 7 years ago. It must not have done well at all since it ran only during 1954. They're tough to find!
  19. It's a Dan DeCarlo cover as well and those continue to attract more buyers. I wish that there had been formal documentation for the books he drew for Timely. There are a number of Cindy, Nellie, and Georgie books from that era that appear to have DeCarlo artwork but there's no way to confirm it other than by the style of the artwork. It has been confirmed that he started on the Jeanie series but all of the Jeanie work he did is unsigned as well.
  20. Great book! And it's the first Archie Christmas cover too.
  21. My mail carrier frequently records inaccurate delivery info. I went home from work one day to pick up a package that was shown as having been delivered to my front door. I get home and it was nowhere to be found. It was a piece of artwork that cost a little less than $1,000 so I didn't want it left outside. I called the post office and they had no clue and suggested checking with my neighbors. Big help. About an hour later, the package was delivered. Turns out the mail carrier was just recording packages as delivered when her truck was loaded. I've noticed that they do that a lot, I suspect so that they appear to be delivering in a timely manner. It happened at my PO Box quite a bit in that packages were shown as delivered on tracking info and I wouldn't receive it until several days later. They've improved since then but as they continue cutting costs and bringing on younger employees, the service has really suffered.
  22. This is one of my favorite Feldstein covers. Junior always had his "oh" face.
  23. I'm sure this has made an appearance here before but I didn't see it recently.
