  1. Found a local moving sale that advertised comics. I didn't make it there for the first day, but got there when they opened on day two. A large plastic bins with unbagged comics and crumpled newspaper to pack them didn't look too promising. More than half of them were Archie / Richie Rich from the 70's in poor shape and some Batman/Superman missing covers. Last section of the box had all of these - in surprisingly good shape. Paid $2 each for the Superboys and 25 cents for the others - including the Phantom Stranger that's a 7.0/8.0! A couple of books in French - including the Superman & Batman one - but these were all in above average shape.

Someone else went through the books and bought $200 worth from them the day before - wonder what I missed out on? They had some random books priced over $20 (early bronze Batman in poor condition, Daredevil #53) - so their pricing was a bit strange.

  2. Found a box of books from the 70s at a garage sale. I lucked out, only $30 for the box.

In the original box (the box was full originally, and I took a pict AFTER moving some to a short box):

Looks like an awesome find! Did you just happen to stop at this sale, or did you see a listing that this one had comics? I've found a few good sales that listed comics - not much luck trying random sales. Thanks for sharing - looking forward to see what you netted in the haul!

I saw a garage sale listing that mentioned comics. It's always hit or miss when it comes to garage sales.

I went to one garage sale a few weeks ago that mentioned comics and they were already gone by the time I got there.

As I was driving away I noticed two more garage sales signs and decided to check them out on a whim. What do you know, one of them had three long boxes of books. Most of it was $1 books from the late 90s and early 2000s but then I hit the jackpot and found a few books from the Captain America 2004 series (the one with the "Out of Time" story arc) and snagged issues #2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 for $1 each.

IMO, garage sales finds = a numbers game, the more you go to and search the more likely you're bound to find some gems.

I had some luck this week at a sale finding three of the original Wolverine miniseries and a few 60's books for $2 each. I agree that it is a numbers game - the more you look, the more opportunities you have to find something. The anticipation of going through a box of comics that seems to be untouched is worth it.

The ones that I moved over to a short box (I actually needed 2 short boxes for all the books in the end)

I'll post followup images once I've re-bagged and boarded everything.

  4. Found an interesting sale today with 8 short boxes of mostly 90's filler - but found a couple post-issue 100 Walking Dead, 2nd Deadpool appearance, Scarlet #1. Also there was a binder with 30 or so mostly early bronze comics - so I got the binder and another dozen books for $65. Probably not the best negotiation ever, but I only started doing this a month or so ago.

The Adventure Comics and Space Family covers are great, and Twilight Zone are better reads than I thought they would be. Here's the better issues from the lot...

  5. Best of my finds at garage sales last weekend for $1 each. I thought i was going to get lucky with a NM98 when I found the early X-Force, but not this time.

The Lady Death's came from a seller that said these were bought by a grandmother/grandson collecting duo that lost interest. They had a half of cheesy 90's pinup stuff like this, Glory, Vampirella, etc - seems like odd stuff for the two of them to buy together.
