update – so I spoke with him for a little bit he's basically selling off most of his Comics and does not want to use eBay because of bad past experiences and shipping. All the books were complete and ranged in grade from good to fine. We settled on a price of $800. He said he is listing more books next week.

Nice!  Seems like a fair deal for both of you.  Maybe he'll let you take a look at the future books he's selling before he lists them on craigslist?

  2. Went to a garage sale at the 9am opening time they advertised.  Only the wife was there, wasn't sure where her husband's five boxes of comics were - but he'd be there at 1pm if i wanted to come back.  I considered not coming back - but it was only 20 minutes away and she was having a beer at 9am - so i figured it could be interesting.  Got back to find it was only three short boxes of books for $1 each.  I was so excited when I saw the Nyx run, I forgot to flip back for the Deadpool/Cable #1.  Overall - was well worth the return trip!

  3. I use comicspriceguide.com as a starting point for quick search of books by issue or title.  Gives a good reference that is easily searchable from your phone once you set up the free account.  If i'm looking to buy or sell something specific then i would use ebay or other sites referenced to get a better feel for current market.

Less than a week! I've been fiddling with the C2e2 app and it's pretty neat. Like how easy it is to make a personal schedule of panels and signings. I need all the help I can get to keep my head in the game.

Im planning on cosplaying (and spending $100's on books too!) but I'm worried the main piece I ordered from etsy won't arrive by Friday. It shipped today out of Italy. Anyone think it's possible for it to make it to Iowa in a week?

update on the shipment?  sucks to be waiting for something right before a show...

  5. Estate sale with original art - Wantagh/Long Island NY

Sharing this for anyone in the area - looks like some great original art available at this sale.  Wonder what the story behind the sale is - bio mentions 50 year collection that is being sold.  Seems like an online house would return more to the original owner.  Might be opportunity for someone from the board to pick up some great stuff!  i did a search on board for the location listed (Wantagh) and didn't see anything, so hopefully this isn't already part of another thread.

  6. Finale was fun - could have been a lot worse, but about what we've come to expect from this show at this point.  Here's some of my observations, assuming i used the spoiler function correctly...

    • Spoiler

      • what was with the lame special effects on the roof fall?  That's such an iconic moment from the book, but on the show it's just a flutter of activity behind a group of trees with a scream?
      • Not that this show is known for it's great writing - but Negan actually said "That widow is alive, guns a-blazing!" when he saw Maggie.  that's too ridiculous even for this show.
      • The Negan confrontation with Rick and Carl was solid - but Negan threatened to take both of Rick's hands?  was he going to kill Carl and then cut off Rick's hands, so he could be a figurehead leader, but not actually do anything?  The references to rick losing a hand were fun at first, but i think it's time to move on from that.
      • What was the deal the garbage people worked out?  they wanted 12 of something - people, which are valuable?  The turn by the group was great, but the deal wasn't clear.
      • When the shooting starts, Carl and Daryl both take their first shots at people's legs/feet.  This All Out War might be more like and A-Team episode.  Since it seems like no character who's actually spoken on the show died in the fire fight, it's a war of red shirts so far.
      • Sasha's whole flashback / memory sequence is only of Abraham?  She was with him for a month or two as a couple, but not a single thought of Tyreese - her brother she was very close with and who spent more time with her in the zombie apocalypse.
      • the moving truck in the comic Busta Move, but on the show it was Trusta Move?

  7. Had good luck at an estate sale this week.  Found about a dozen Walking Dead books that I need, including 1st Ezekiel.  A bunch of Y the Last Man, which i don't ever seem to find.  Was happy to get X-men 21 (although in low grade condition) for only $15, and averaged less than $2 a book on everything else.  This sale advertised having over 25,000 books including ASM 129 and other key books.  The sale started at 4pm on Thursday.  I got there at 1pm and was the 31st name on the list to enter the sale.  The first names were there at 10pm the night before!  Some books were over priced, while others seemed to slip through with low prices.  I didn't hear what the big books went for, but since none of them survived until I got in - the price must have been right for someone.

It doesn't sound like Marvel to me...kind of the opposite. Marvel is dealing with the aftermath of villain consequences. POWERLESS (the DC one) is dealing with preventing villain consequences. And also with keeping Bruce Wayne's cousin (Alan Tudyk as Van Wayne) in line.

I am finding it pretty danged amusing. Fluffy? Yes. But danged amusing!

I'm liking this show so far.  Not as good as The Office or some other workplace settings sitcoms, but add in the proximity to superhero stuff, and that's enough for me.  My wife enjoys it too - so that's a plus.  The intro with the comic book covers is worth a look for anyone who's a comic fan.

Pray tell, if Nova 1 was stickered at $4, and Detective 359 was $35, what did they have that was so horribly overpriced?

The one that stood out to me was an Adventure Comics 425` for $80 - not sure where they got that price from.  All of the Iron Man issues they had between 50-100 were $25 or more, despite being mid-grade condition at best.  Most of the pricing seemed to be based on mint prices from an old Overstreet guide, but didn't take into consideration the condition of the book.  Lots of early 90s Image / Lady Death type stuff at over $20 a book as well.  Gotta love flipping through a bunch of Brigade and Prophet books!
