  1. People selling art they don't own yet Just came across two people calling themselves collectors, and trying to sell art they don't even own yet. As the art they're selling is located in italian or french galleries, they think they can put it for sale in France (as many dont check the italian galleries) or on the US market (as many US collectors don"t check the french galleries) . And if someone is interested, then they buy it from the source and complete the transaction. I remember one other fellow who used to put pages on hold for a few weeks, when trying to sell it overseas. After a few cancelled sales, he was blacklisted by many professional sellers. Does this happen a lot ? Have you ever come across people acting this way in the past or recently ?

  5. Hi, I can't ever imagine how you're feeling right now. A few months ago, I did my best to help another US collector who bought a piece from another auction house based in France. They shipped the art framed, and of course, the glass broke and damaged the art. In this case, I kindly argued that they should at least have asked him first if he wanted the at to be shipped framed or unframed. But even with that small mistake of theirs, it was the same discussion over and over, as you usually agree to have them not responsible of what happens as soon as it leaves the auction house. They put the blame on the shipping company, even if the packaging material was not fit to ship art, even unframed. You know, even from France to Belgium, there has been bad surprises and you also have to sign this document or to agree through email. the other thing being that not everyone working in auction houses in Paris speak english fluently.

  15. Did your girlfriend or wife ever bought art for you as a gift ? Many art collectors have heard from their girlfriends and wives that it would be too risky to buy them art as a gift. But I'm sure some of you were lucky. Please share your memories of this one time the person that loved you bought a page or ordered a commission as a gift. Maybe from the wrong series or the wrong artist. But it's the thought that matters.

  20. Just the fact that some french collectors don't have the faintest idea of fair market value for modern american comic art, especially the ones that buy only at auctions. Also, this was the first auction happening in France with so much modern art. Some results have been overpriced as a result. Not many, just a few. Sometimes there's no reason for a crazy price.
