  1. I agree with you on 4 because the WandaVision hype is driving this book up but I believe 1 is a solid investment in any grade and still has room to grow as a true introduction of a new team book and characters and one of marvel’s greatest villains not to mention being the 1st issue of one of marvels longest running titles. Number 4 will eventually slow down and even drop. Number 1 most likely, won’t.
  2. ...or which was printed first before distribution. The ad version may have been discontinued due to a merchant not paying so the publisher switched to the photo back cover or the advertiser came in and paid a premium to get the ad published asap. STOP THE PRESSES! We’ve got a change to print. Scrap the photo, this advertiser will pay 3 cents per back cover printed before distribution.
  3. 4.0 Would take a lot of cpr to get that back cover cleaned not to mention page quality
  4. Why would anyone do that? 1.8 seems like a complete, well worn copy though
  5. 2.5 staining, spine wear, cbc and that chip from the corner. May be able to bump to a 3 with a good clean and press to remove the spine roll
  6. 9.0 from what’s visible but a back cover scan may tell a different story
  7. All the spine stress with the accumulation of other small flaws puts this around a 6.5 imo
  8. The buyer will crack it out and have it cleaned and pressed to try for the first 11.0 mark my words
  9. Just watched the video on Facebook and it looks like he’s added a lot of talent on board including Arthur Adams and J Scott Campbell among others to get things in gear. It looks like he’s taking a page from the Spiderverse but I’m all for it. Some of the images posted look amazing
  10. Didn’t Kinkos or Office Depot used to do that? I think if you took a vector image into their store, you could have it printed as big as you wanted. Pretty sure some online shop can probably do this provided the image you send them is of high quality.
  11. To think, this was the image that Hulk came from and someone decided, “hey, let’s put this on a poster!”.
  12. I’ve seen sellers label their auctions as “back cover variant” before too but I’ve never seen one depicting anything besides the Kirk photo. I wonder if there’s a Whitman variant somewhere in the world. I had heard rumors of a 15 cent price variant existing but to my knowledge that only holds true with issue 2.
  13. I think now’s the time to get it before it goes nuts like the rest of the hobby. It can still be found at a reasonable price in most cases although I’m seeing people asking 4 figures for high grade copies or signed books from the original cast. I’d love to own a copy signed by Nimoy, Shatner, and Kelly to go along with the mego figures in my collection.
  14. I gave up on this book a couple of years ago after seeing a copy sell on “Comicbook Men” but I couldn’t find a decent enough looking copy for my taste. Sure, I’d have one in my watchlist every now and then but once it hit a certain price point I moved on. Last time I followed one in the 6.0 range it went for $500 and I thought that was nuts. Who knew what was coming next?
  15. As a big, original series Star Trek fan since I was about 4 years old and saw some guy with pointy ears on tv, I was hooked and had to own this collectible. Loved all the photo covers and later some of the painted covers were amazing but that first issue...it was the one to get. I currently own 3 copies but keep my eyes peeled just in case I find that stray that puts my 7.0 to shame.
  16. Got my copy a little over a year ago at a very reasonable price having the seller accept my offer. I still believe it to be an undervalued/underrated key but it is considered a grail for many collectors and as demand grows, I feel lucky to have picked it up before things go nuts.
  17. Being a fan of Magneto, I’ve wanted this book for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately, something always comes up when I see one within reach and “BAM!”, something else takes priority and another couple grand gets added to the value regardless of grade. I still think I may own it one day but it’s gonna take an alignment of the stars. Part of the fun of hunting it down though.
