  1. Yea I got a poop box, not one blank, OA or negan. I got 4/25 books that I even care anything about. Then dudes are pulling out 3 OA and a negan lol.

Why on earth would they stick with 2017 titles for a 25th anniversary? Why not include the mega titles that got you this far??? I feel a little cheated TBH, and yes I am salty.

  2. I agree that it's more of a residual income hobby for most. If you're full-time I hope that's not your process hm.

I honestly kind of  enjoy the handling and packaging, it's some what therapeutic. Plus when you do make a big sale, I no longer care as much about the $1 profit books or the "changed my mind" returns that are inevitable.

I'm not sure about Hillbilly slowing down, I know it's early days but it's every bit as good as the Goon so far IMO. And I love the Goon.

Having said that, I don't know much about how Hillbilly is selling, or how it's being received by the wider readership.

Hillbilly is a slow burn IMO, I pick up cheap copies whenever I see them. Print was extremely low on #1

  4. I was rearranging some books yesterday, and figured I might as well take the opportunity to snap a few quick pictures and share my (raw) collection while they were out! This is about a year of seriously collecting Dell'Otto. Please excuse the crappy pictures.

There are some listings on eBay for an Old Man Logan #25 600 print run Deodato Virgin cover, a sketch cover of the 1:10 variant and a sketch cover of the regular cover. Does anyone know what store is doing these or who might be releasing them?

I believe it's Frankie's, SadLemon and Comic Mint.

    Upwards of 15K

Thats just for stock paper, if you want something like a foil or high gloss it goes up from there. Plus you are locked in to printing a minimum print run of each cover. so say cover a is 3000 copies, b is 2000 and c is 1000

Its a ton of inventory to hold on to. If you can sell sets of a b and c together for say 75-100 then you have a decent shot at at least breaking even. Iv'e heard horror stories at some shops having over 2000 copies left after the hype died down on their book and they couldn't give them away at cover price.

Its why the book, artist and character mean so much when doing these exclusives.

Wow, I knew it was a lot but not that much. So these are $75-100 per set doesn't leave much on the bone? Man I feel bad for people pumping these out because of the success they've had in the past year or so. I feel like most people that would normally be a buyer are burned out, fatigued, and/or broke now. So odds of selling out are probably 50% less than what it was a year ago.

These don't hold value. Not original release value anyway. I just got JL vs. SS #1, Artgerm virgin variant. When it was released in the set of 3, the virgin was going for $60+. I picked up a 9.8 (raw) for $23 shipped. I'm all about the virgins (lol!). I buy for the art, so anything obstructing it is an eye sore imho.

I agree for 90% of them, but there are rare cases where you're not going to get it cheaper months later. If I had the choice to buy just the cover I want and not be forced to buy the 3 pack I would have a different attitude towards store variants. I understand they're just trying to maximize profit and try to cover costs, but it just seems like they're gearing the sales towards speculators and deep pockets. Something along these lines would bring in a lot more of my business:

    Regular color cover: $9.99-$14.99

    B&W: $19.99-$24.99

Virgin: $39.99-$49.99, limit 1 or 2  per customer

    All covers: $64.99-79.99

  8. I'm not sure, but I wouldn't see why it being a FCBD book would matter? Especially one as cool and limited as this, and is a hot on-going title. I plan to slab at least one if they show up nice enough. I'm banking on the slow burn with this title (ie: Saga)

I find it hard to believe you'd lose the ~$30 slabbing costs though unless you paid a lot for the book, it comes back 9.4 or less, or the bottom just falls out on this series.

Side note: If the book is important to you that's all that matter!

  9. The ship ha sailed? After one misleading season?

Are people attention spans that short now? Sure, the peak may be over for #1 but there is PLENTY of meat left, and PLENTY of potential. WHAT IF 3 seasons in, it one of the top cable series? Do you think they'll still be dirt cheap? Of all the spec I see thrown around I will never understand why Preacher is being shrugged off lol

Can anyone here tell me with a straight face "oh I knew that because of the low print, the popularity of the show and the appearance in CBM that cover A of R&M will be a 200 book" lol

I wouldn't have guessed it would spike so high so fast, OR have a TV spot, BUT I can straight faced tell you that I knew it was overlooked and I have put my money on it for the past 7 months. Not a ton on census either, 38 9.8s and it's 2 years old.

I think what you're failing to grasp is it's not that CBM raised the value, it just drew AWARENESS. None of my friends in real life that watch Rick and Morty knew there was a comic, let alone a good comic, based on the show. This is not the freak of nature you're making it out to be, are you upset you didn't stock up or what? haha

  11. There are no rules, I was just putting it into it's category/genre. All the other mega-low print books your talking about (which ones??), nobody cares about and have no relevance in pop culture and 0 demand. It's no mystery at all friend, supply < demand.

I saw this book coming a mile away though, it had all my boxes checked (plus I'm a huge fan myself). I don't disagree with your logic in general, but on this book I do. In my humble opinion, the heat is justified. I bet it will be a $50 book forever at minimum.
