  1. Congrats Danny. BWS sigs are extremely hard to get and I am a huge fan of his work. I know people love his Conan run but my favorites are his Weapon X run in Marvel Comics Presents (some of the best Wolverine covers ever) and his Solar run for Valiant. I don't think Jesperson got any
  2. Not sure, but here's one of the books being auctioned Is the WDCS 19 the same as the 9.4 that sold last August? I spent 10 minutes comparing and wasn't able to come to a conclusion. Some defects look almost identical and some seem different? I am curious since I was the underbidder in August and it would be a little disturbing if it were the same book. Need to get up early since it's 1 am local time and I'll be flying from Europe to California Sunday - would be nice if anyone with time to spare would check it out... Link? I couldn't find it on their site. Heritage says it is a different copy from the one that sold last August. here is the quote, "The other 9.4 copy sold for $15,535 in a Heritage auction last year!"
  3. Thank you cujobyte (Nick) for the sweet 9.8 Uncanny X-Men 176 (thumbs u Welcome to the Boards...
  4. Nice! I was wondering where that one ended up (thumbs u
  5. Does anyone know who got the 9.4 copy of Four Color 367 in the C-Link auction?
  6. I hope it comes back clean for you. That is a nice looking book.
  7. The "Donald Duck" series begins with issue 26. I have been trying to determine which books are considered to be Donald Duck 1-25 and I get conflicting information. I know that there are more than 25 Four Color books featuring Donald. And some say that a couple of the Large Feature comics featuring Donald are considered part of the series. The CGC Registry lists only 23 Four Color books as part of the Donald Duck series prior to DD 26 so they are obviously missing a couple.
  8. These may not be the world's best copies but they are nice and I love the white pages on most of them.
  9. The next time that I feel like reading it, I will crack it out of its case like Scrooge taking his first dime out from under glass. I mainly got this one slabbed as grading practice and to make sure there was no resto. My son was born on October 26 so I am giving him Halloween cover Duck books for his birthdays and Christmas cover Duck books for Christmas. "Christmas for Shacktown," "Trick or Treat" and "Christmas on Bear Mountain" are all great stories.
  10. Here are a few new Uncle Scrooges that I received back from CGC this morning.
  11. I just received some nice books back from CGC today. This one isn't high grade but it is my own "Old Number One." I got this one for my son last year for his second Christmas. This one was a gift to my son for his first birthday. He turns two on October 26 and this will be his birthday present from me.
  12. I got my first Value Tier submission back from CGC. Overall, I am very pleased. I wanted to test my grading of gold-silver Duck books against CGC and I was very pleased. I had a few nice pre-1975 Uncle Scrooges and a Thor I wanted to add to my registry set. I was pleased with the results there too. And I had a few miscellaneous pre-1974 Marvels I wanted to get slabbed for selling. Here are the keepers: Uncle Scrooge 79 9.6 white pages, top-census Uncle Scrooge 100 9.4 white pages, one higher Uncle Scrooge 103 9.6 white pages, top census Uncle Scrooge 110 9.6 white pages, top census Uncle Scrooge 116 9.6 white pages, top census Thor 228 9.6 white pages, top census Here is the results of my grading test: Walt Disney Comics & Stories 98 CGC 6.0, my grade 5.0 Donald Duck 26 CGC 5.0, my grade 4.0 Four Color 178 CGC 4.0, my grade 4.0 Four Color 223 CGC 4.5, my grade 4.0 Four Color 282 CGC 4.5, my grade 4.5 Four Color 291 CGC 6.5, my grade 5.0 Four Color 300 CGC 8.0, my grade 7.0 Four Color 308 CGC 6.0, my grade 6.0 Four Color 318 CGC 5.5, my grade 6.0 Four Color 328 CGC 7.5, my grade 6.0 Four Color 339 CGC 7.5, my grade 7.0 Four Color 356 CGC 6.0, my grade 6.0 Four Color 379 CGC 7.0, my grade 7.0 Four Color 386 CGC 3.0, my grade 3.0 My personal "Old Number One" I'll post the Duck books in the golden-age "Show us Your Ducks: thread and the Thor in the bronze-age "Thor Appreciation" thread. 13. I'll probably get laughed at by the "serious" collectors, but I really have to say I kinda like little Eddie Harris' signature at the top of this book. It doesn't detract from the book at all in my opinion and it adds a little "personality" to it. Of course, I also prefer high-quality USED stamps over MINT stamps in my philatelic efforts as well. To me a used stamp is more "honest" somehow. The idea that some 60+ years ago a little kid named Eddie was reading this comic makes it a far better collectible than one that was bought, lost on a shelf and never read.... Begin your laughing.... I dont think there is anything to laugh at, I I think most collectors see this as you do a bit of personality to the comic. I think stuff like that is really cool, it is more than just condition of a comic, its history, nostalgia prsonality etc. Seeing a sig from a little kid who loved his comic adds to all that! Makes you wonder if that "little kid" is still around? I wonder if there are storys around of old collectors being reunited with long lost books and it being verified in this way, by a signature? I remember a Duck collecting buddy of mine telling me how he used to visit a neighbor to read her books when he was a kid. He remembered that she always wrote her names on her books. I'll bet he would love to have one of those old books in his collection now.
  14. Thanks guys. Does anybody have some advice for me on how to price them? There is no GPA for these books because they are so scarce in grade. These three, and the 9.8 I previously posted, are all the top-census copy and the only book in grade.
  15. I just got a few new Dynabrites back from CGC. They are all top census books.
  16. I just got some books back from CGC and I'm pleased. I had this Thor 275 pegged at 9.6. It is the first copy to grade higher than 9.4 I had these three pegged at 9.4/9.6 so I was happy with these. These Dynabrites are hard to find in high-grade. I also had these pegged at 9.4/9.6 so I am happy with them except I didn't get them back in time for the VCC. Oh well...
