  1. I love those bronze Thors. The 210 looks really nice.
  2. When one of the best comic collectors in the country is risking life and limb to search for Wolverine 35, that is a sign that the book is "on the radar." I'm glad you escaped unharmed Barton.
  3. Nice. Thanks for posting it and verifying that there are copies without the spine tears. I think some were doubting their existence even though I for one had seen one and others had reported seeing them too.
  4. DS claims that all Gold Keys from that era have Whitman counter-parts That's true. I have a small stash of Whitman variants from when Gold Key was publishing. 5. so your saying there's a chance???...YEAH!!!!!!!!(Jim Carey from Dumb and Dumber!!! I do believe that there is a chance. I'm still looking (thumbs u
  6. I have personally looked at more than 200 copies, maybe more than 300 and saw one without the tears. Many have nearly identical tears - the UPC box is the most common and I have probably seen 60+ copies that look identical to the one vpcomix72 posted - but the tears do vary from copy to copy and I have seen them all up and down the spine.
  7. RMA. I saw one copy but didn't buy it because of different large unfixable defects. I regretted it later when I realized how difficult it was going to be to find because it might have given me some kind of clue. I also know of one trustworthy grader who saw a similar copy. Mine was in Seattle. His was in the Northeast.
  8. Is that the one that Worldsbestcomics is missing? If so, there have been a lot of people looking for one for a while! Yes, this is the one I am looking for (see my sig). The bindery tears resemble spine stress but if you open up the cover, you will see that they are torn through. I also questioned how an entire print run of hundreds of thousands of books could all have the same defect. They don't. But, like any common Marvel from that era, if it went out on the shelf or into a back issue box, it likely picked up other defects that knock it out of 9.8. And I don't know what was wrong with the quality control but over 99% of these books have the bindery tears. The 9.6s on the census all have the bindery tears I have even tried different print runs like the books that were printed for Canada instead of the US but no luck so far. I'm sure some will turn up. There have been a number of copper/modern books that had production/distribution issues that resulted in no 9.8s for a long time - Wolverine 102.5 and Wolverine 145 Nabisco are a couple other Wolverine examples - but copies eventually surfaced driven by the price for uber-HG CGC copies. The first 9.8 Wolverine 35 could sell for $500 even in this market.
  9. I have some Don Rosa Collection books too. I'm an Uncle Scrooge collector so Don's work on that title is what makes owning some of his books special. I don't have any Rosa collection Scrooge books and I don't remember ever seeing any come up for sale.
  10. Just discovered this thread. It is amazing to see all the covers so far.
  11. Looking for SS Wolverines or Uncanny X-Men books, Wolverine sketches, or bronze Spideys and Thors.
  12. These copies were both just the second copies ever to go 9.8. The Wolverine 35 ABO variant is the first 9.8 copy.
  13. These are keepers: Wolverine 55 black & white variant CGC 9.8 back cover sketch by Clayton Crain Neal Adams sketch colored by Nei Ruffino
  14. Seeing those books brings back some good memories.
  15. In my experience the UPC Gold is less abundant than the Platinum. The CGC census shows about 750 total Platinums and about 175 UPC Gold that have been submitted. The UPC gold had a higher print run than 10,000. But, they don't show up on the secondary market as much. This was one of the first books where the UPC version became desired. I think most of the books bought off the shelves at retailers like Walmart ended up being read by kids and then junked. Collectors were getting their books in files at the LCS by the time Spidey 1 came out.
  16. If you participate in sketch cover commission opps, you are bound to run into some disappointments; long delays, you don't get the book you asked for, maybe you don't get a book at all. But, this book from Ken Haeser's last sketch opportunity is a perfect example of everything going right. Thank you Ken and par2ch (thumbs u
  17. You're the one who got me hooked on them in the first place! I hope to finish the entire bronze run in 9.8/9.9. When I'm done, I'll sell you the whole run
