  1. I'm thinking it's higher than that.

Comichron put the run of #1 at nearly 33k. So that would be about 8250 each cover since there were 4 covers. But the 4th cover; blank sketch, seemed to be announced late, so it could be that covers A, B, and C split a majority of the 33k print run with the sketch cover bringing up the rear.

May guess is that Cover A is probably closer to 10k print run for issue 1.

Maybe higher? Iirc, an article mentioned Cover A still tends to get more orders when there are free to order variants.

  2. Oh, they sold 24 27 already, gotcha. But they are only even on the 1:200's. Still have the cost of an additional 300 to get the 1:500's.

They have sold 8 of the 1:500 at $90. For the additional 300 copies they have to order over the 1:200 sets they are selling, they are making roughly $52 if you assume the are getting the books at 50% off cover.

5400 copies at 13 cents each is $702. $841 on the 1:200 plus $720 on the 1:500 (and they still have 1 of those to sell) = $1561 - $702 or $859 profit plus a free 1:500 plus 5400 copies give away. (thumbs u

They're actually selling a set with both chase variants:

    119.50 x 5 1:500 + 1:200 + reg

    89.50 x 8 1:500 + reg

    30.99 x 27 1:200 + reg

    Comics is 6545 copies (6500 reg + 32 1:200 + 13 1:500) so assuming $0.13 per issue, that's $850.85.

$2150.23 revenue - $850.85 cost - shipping - ebay fees - PayPal fees. I reckon that still nets them a tidy profit. The 6460 remaining regular covers, they can either sell or give away. I saw an unopened 250 case of Red Sonja #0 on ebay for $50 BIN free ship.

  3. He is already in the black and everything other than the 1:200 issues are gravy. This is going to be huge. I really hope the book lives up to the hype/sales. How cool would that be ? :wishluck:

Yea, break even on the 1:200, then you're left with a stack of $0.25 gravy. Good luck selling those for a profit! ha

Technically, if they're already breaking even just by selling the 1:200 variants, then every sale of the regular issue at $0.25 is just additional profit assuming they can sell those locally and not ebay.

  4. Under rated 'Monstress' by Image, as not published by Marvel or DC (Rebirth), written by a girl (Marjorie M. Liu) and drawn by a lady in Japan (not USA or Canada). Interesting art deco backgrounds and lush computer coloring and intricate illos. (thumbs u

As much as I absolutely love Monstress by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda (it's one of the two titles I have on CGC 9.8 sub with BeachBum/Dre), I'm not sure it qualifies as under rated. Liu/Takeda had good buzz from their X-23 run which carried over.

Sales for the Volume 1 TPB seem quite strong and issue #8 sold 18+K copies. While its sales may not be on par with Walking Dead, Saga or Brubaker/Phillips, that's pretty good for a creator owned comic.

But yes, the story and artwork are amazing. I have a co-worker who doesn't normally buy comics but was so amazed by the art that he bought my TPB on the spot when he saw me reading it during lunch. He's asked me to buy him a copy of new TPB volumes whenever I buy mine. :)

  5. So.....stores will end up with 10% more new Marvel drek that they can't unload even in cheap bins? That sounds like a winner plan.

Maybe they should do something totally off the board and crazy like retaining writers and artists that can put out quality comics?

    This. (thumbs u

  6. Plenty of copies available for less on Amazon. Still $40+ though.

(tsk) You said the A word to comic book buyers high grade collectors. Only in desperation will I buy there. Majority of sellers can't pack and can't grade.(My apologies to the boardies on here that sell there not talking about you.)

There, I corrected it for you.

I reckon majority of comic book buyers still actually buy comics to read and wouldn't care about damage equivalent to some shelf wear. Granted, that's not quite the audience on these boards.

Amazon has preset conditions for used books which more or less translates to the ff:

    • Like New: FN or higher
    • Very Good: VG
    • Good: GD
    • Acceptable: FR

  7. I do the majority of my reading in bed before I sleep for the night.

    Anyone else do the same?

I do. Hence, why I mostly read using an iPad. No need for a separate reading light and I don't have to deal with shadows and glare on glossy pages. Also, automatic bookmarks and the iPad is pretty resilient if you happen to roll over it (digs into the skin, though).

Alas, the iPad does seem to mess up my sleeping patterns. I'd often go to sleep at 3am and have to wake up to get ready for work at 5am.

Printed media (comics or otherwise), I usually read during daytime (natural light) while lounging on the couch.

  8. Found some pretty decent stuff today that I never see... got 90-94 of the 90s Ghost Rider series for a buck a pop, as well as the Daredevil/Black Widow: Abattoir graphic novel for $8. Never see that one anywhere, even shows, and the only listing I found on eBay is over $120... whether the value is actually that high or not, the book is legit hard to find, being the first one I've ever seen.

Plenty of copies available for less on Amazon. Still $40+ though.

  9. Furthermore, the $2100sale of the raw VF copy a year and a half ago, and the 9.6 copy that sold for $4k seven months ago easily support your price. Hell, you might have still been too cheap. :whee::shy:

Boils down to what price people are willing to pay. Unless he got tons of offers higher than $9K, then $9K isn't cheap. It's just the market price at this point in time when he decided to sell.

  10. This man is telling the truth I wont buy comics from Amazon unless I am desperate or investing cheap. The majority just cant pack their books and don't care to because the return policy is a pain in the :censored:

Well aware of Amazon's poor packaging. That said, I figure having a copy in NM condition primarily matters for investors/speculators and not those who actually intend to read the book. I kinda expected all the investors/speculators would have already bought their copies by now.

Preordered my copies for 6.49 from DCBS. Should be arriving in the next shipment.

  11. What you need to understand is that people like Chuck buy smart. They get books at pennies on the dollar from back inventories. So, again, the only thing dealers need to know are what the trends are. Your LCS would NOT get the same deals as he does, I said that time and time again and you keep mentioning it again

Quite likely, those comics Chuck is paying pennies on the dollar for are from LCS that are going out of business due to over purchasing stuff they can't sell. Alas, unlike Chuck, they don't have a newsletter and a rabid following upon which to pump 'n dump. :eyeroll:

  12. Ouch, someone paid $30 based on this nonsense...

"Love is Love is a Very Limited First Print Run. I have been told there was a printing error and all first print comics which this is say second print, because I purchased this the day it was released it is first print though it says second. I am currently getting an email from the comic shop proving this and will post it. This is the First appearance of Harry Potter in a Comic Book. This is sure to go up in Value. Rare Book, Purchase before it really gets pricey.

I ship within one to two days

New off the comic book shelf condition in protective plastic cover.

Great for any serious HP collector.

    Good luck

    No refunds

    Tracking will be provided.

    Free shipping"

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/272502765606

Current BIN going rate seems to be $20+$5 shipping or $25 with free ship so they paid $5 higher than ebay rates. That said, this is still available for $10 from Amazon and afaik, they ship internationally so don't really get why everyone's flocking to ebay and paying double or more. (shrug)

lol, anyone want to take a guess how much the actual first prints with the sticker will fetch when they hit the 'bay? lol

  13. Isn't losing a registered letter an event that can lead to termination? The employee himself should be doing everything possible to quash this complaint, including paying out of pocket.

Forget termination, isn't mail theft a felony offense?

  14. I will say this-if you dont print much, be sure to print something every 2 weeks. The last 3 $70 ink refills I bought i barely printed anything so the port got clogged which the printer reads as 'empty'. and of course tech support will never mention this expensive little detail. So I spent $210 to print maybe 8 pages.

Yes that's correct to print maybe 8 pages I could have purchased 8 printers.

Every time I needed to print a page, I could have bought an entire printer just for that one job.

This is why we switched to laser a few years back (back when monochrome laser printers were still $200+). Nowadays, you can buy wireless color laser for $70. Worth it.

  15. Heck I'm still surprised by how many comic books fans I know that have no idea about slabs.

And that's actually probably better for the overall health of the comic industry.

I reckon the industry could benefit from more readers who religiously buy issue after issue over folks buying exclusively Golden/Silver/Bronze age slabs or manufactured collectibles by way of incentive variants and retailer exclusives.

Granted, cultivating readers would require good ongoing stories instead of a spate on #1s every few months. :D

At the least, this covered my hawthorne wood HP wand at Universal lol

Hawthorn, unicorn hair, reasonably springy. :D

Got two of those (regular one in 2013 and an interactive one in 2015) along with a couple others. lol

  16. Honestly, this is the only place I've seen where people are even enquiring how CGC will label the slabs. A lot of fans are probably just buying because JKR endorsed it and the money's going to a good cause.

Well this is CGC's forum, if not here then where?

Personally I love when odd things like this come up, just makes the hobby more interesting.

Right. Just meant most other news outlets don't care about all that minutiae. It's first time Harry Potter is making an official appearance on a comic book ergo first appearance/comic debut.

It's only here where you get heated debates about whether it should be labeled a cameo, 1st app, etc. Mind, labeling it a pin-up is probably the fairest and most accurate. :)

Granted, I reckon majority of HP fans probably aren't even aware that you can slab comic books. :D

  17. Yup, the 'ol pump and dump...

The pump wasn't really because of this board. That was due to widespread media coverage. People just took advantage of a quick flip.

The PUMP and DUMP is people saying and trying to make this Harry Potter's "1st appearance"......because really, it's just a pin-up.

Honestly, this is the only place I've seen where people are even enquiring how CGC will label the slabs. A lot of fans are probably just buying because JKR endorsed it and the money's going to a good cause.

I bought a grand total of 2 copies for my personal collection. I'm a bit of a Potterhead myself and all things considered, this is a drop in the bucket compared to what I've spent in theme park admissions and other Potter-related merchandise.
