  1. I wouldn't want to prepay unless there's some incentive. If prepayment is a requirement for having a pull list without offering any incentive, I'll just take my business to DCBS or Midtown. At 35-40% discount (sometimes higher) and no sales tax, that easily covers shipping for me.
  2. My LCS offers 30% off DC/Marvel comics with prepay and all other publishers 20% off. Although, I don't really save money. I just end up buying more comics.
  3. My guess is that the hardcore Valiant collectors using DCBS to obtain 1:20 and 1:50 variants are already paying for the required extra regular issues... so DCBS can just give the standard copies away, rather than store them. , if not paying, then heavily subsidizing. DCBS has the Cover A for $0.99 (75% off). The 1:50 variant is just $50, though, so perhaps Valiant is just offering deep discounts? Anyway, I don't really mind paying the $3. It's the Cover C #1-3 Preorder bundle which is 48 pages per issue including bonus material. Certainly seems like much better value for money than the Marvel titles I just cancelled. Besides, I've never received a free comic from DCBS.
  4. Yes but these are NEW venom variants! NEW!!!! in 3 yrs they'll have NEWER venom variants!!! and so on and so forth. Waddya mean 3? That's too long. Probably see them again next year or even in 6 months time.
  5. I really do think we need more accessible and cheaper distribution. Marvel Unlimited is a step in that direction albeit it cuts the middlemen. Alternately, why not go back to comic anthologies, at least for lower circulation titles for DC and Marvel? I realize this might not work as well for creator-owned titles but for work-for-hire stuff with page rates, this might actually be feasible. Just got the Loot Crate reprint of Action Comics #1 and it wasn't until I read it that I realized comic anthologies similar to Japanese manga anthologies/phonebooks used to exist once upon a time in the US.
  6. Review up on Bleeding Cool. https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/01/25/baal-mammon-black-monday-murders-vol-01-review/ I was literally laughing out loud while reading the review. Certainly describes how I felt reading BMM.
  7. Likely not 90% of the previous issue but maybe 2-6 issues back. Star Wars Poe Dameron #11 SW 40th Anniversary Edition required 90% of orders of issue #6. I'm getting All-New Wolverine #18 variant by Mattina and Gamora #4 variant by Hans. They're $3.39 from Midtown. And yes, these are buy as many as you want as long as you meet the minimum order of regular covers.
  8. As with almost any character, that can turn around with one writer's solid run. I think that would be easier to accomplish with Silk over Gwen as well... considering all of the hanging around the Gwen character in the Spider-man mythos. Silk would more easily stand alone if someone actually attempted to do so. Question is are most of the younger generation of fans even aware of all the in Gwen's history?
  9. PSA For people who preorder, FOC for Batman #21-22 and Flash #21-22 (The Button story arc/crossover) is on February 13 because apparently, the lenticular covers require longer lead time. Why DC couldn't be bothered to solicit earlier, I do not know.
  10. yes , diamond has minimums (retail $ amount that must be ordered) I think the Diamond minimum monthly $$$ amount is $450 (retail costs). Honestly, if you can't spend less than $450 a month on new comics/trades, don't sell them. Assuming Diamond's website is still current, $425 before discounts. Iirc, minimum discount for comics is at least 35% so that's $276.25 net + freight. At $4 per book, that's around 106 books. At $3 per book, that's around 142.
  11. I think it's that "bump" that has me questioning all of this. If there's a key issue due to a first appearance, and that has a brilliant cover, then sure, I get the increased value. But a comic that's $200+ solely because of the cover? I'm not so sure about that. Agreed on this. Assuming the incentive variants aren't downright ugly, those will probably be the preferred covers for keys and as such, can expect to demand higher premiums. There will likely be some covers that will maintain value or appreciate solely for the cover art. However, given just how many variants are released week in and week out, I expect the vast majority will be near worthless as is the case with most comics.
  12. Your definition of once-in-a-blue-moon seems to be more frequent than mine.
  13. I'd be happy to own both. and I'd be happy to flip both
  14. Not quite 90s Valiant but is anyone else planning on picking up the new X-O Manowar series? Not normally my cup of tea but DCBS has the Preorder Bundle for $2.99 so for $1 an issue, I figured might as well try to see if I'd like it.
  15. They haven't given up ordering them, they've merely given up offering them for sale. I see them for sale on Ebay through their account later. You are saying DCBS is offering the Star Wars 40th anniversary variants, action figure variants, and others for sale on eBay? DCBS isn't diamond. They can do whatever they want with their books I would think. And a quick check shows: http://stores.ebay.com/Discount-Comic-Book-Service/_i.html?_nkw=star+wars&submit=Search&_sid=920195 Basically books and trinkets they over-ordered. No 40th anniversary variants, action figure variants, or Skottie variants. As an addendum to this, DCBS can't really know if they qualify for these variants with weird ordering requirements until all the orders come in. Just as an example: DEC16 1074 D4 _________ DARTH MAUL #1 (OF 5) STAR WARS 40TH ANNIVERSARY VAR (75960608372500171) ..........$4.99 = $ _________ 02/01/17 01/09/17 (NOTE: Meet or exceed 125% of orders for Star Wars Han Solo #2 (MAY160905) with orders for Darth Maul #1 regular cover, and this variant is order all you want.) DEC16 1079 D4 _________ STAR WARS POE DAMERON #11 STAR WARS 40TH ANNIV VAR (75960608458601131) ...$3.99 = $ _________ 02/15/17 01/23/17 (NOTE: Meet or exceed 90% of orders for Star Wars Poe Dameron #6 (JUL161043) with orders for Star Wars Poe Dameron #11 regular cover, and this variant is order all you want.) Sales for Star Wars Poe Dameron: #1 175,322 #2 68,922 #3 60,889 #4 57,712 #5 52,281 #6 50,275 #7 47,878 #8 43,034 #9 38,839 DCBS is able to offer deep discounts and flat rate shipping because every order is a guaranteed sale. In the case of ratio variants, the extra copies in order to qualify is paid for by the person wanting the variant. With themed variants such as SW 40th anniv, Young, Hip Hop, Action Figure, order calculations is more complex. That said, I do wish they'd offer the variants that they do qualify for on the following month in between regular Previews preorder deadline and the Final Order Cutoff. Alas, probably too much work and not much reward to calculate which variants they qualify for and post them on the website with a really short ordering window.
  16. So then the narrative for their first appearance REALLY matters. Thanks. Seems more like there is no "official" first appearance to me due to lack of an official team name. Free for all, I guess. Again, personally as an end-user/buyer/collector, my choice is GCS #1. I think you know where I stand In this case I can't help but choose the narrative over the logo. Personally, GCS #1 wins me over on the narrative as well. They've worked together multiple times but GCS #1 is where they decide to officially team up.
  17. Link man...link http://www.mostgoodhobby.com/catalog/comics-dc-dc_issues/super_sons_1_most_good_hobby_exclusive_ebas_variant_rebirth/343383
  18. I believe Jon knows about the old costume since Lois and Clark showed it to him I think in Superman: Lois and Clark. I remember it was on the DC Rebirth Holiday Special, too, in the Krypto story. As for Bats, doesn't he have the trunks in Morrison's run?

  20. This. I'm sure both DC and Marvel would love it if more people switched to digital. No Diamond, no printing costs and no secondary market. Dunno how happy they'll be if Amazon/comiXology becomes primary distributor, though. Amazon's pretty ruthless.
  21. Hi, my name is aerischan and I'm a hoarder. It's been 12 hours since my last comic purchase.
  22. Variant possibly related to Voldy but hot damn. KRS Comics and Unknown Comics
  23. It's 88 pages same as the DC Rebirth Holiday Special so price tag is understandable. DCBS has it listed for $9.99 (minus standard 40% discount). That said, there's a discrepancy between Marvel Previews catalog and the Previews Customer Order Form (COF). Marvel Previews shows $9.99 while Previews COF shows $3.99. Previews website also shows $9.99. Given the number of pages and typical pricing for most issues being $3.99, I'm guessing whoever prepared the Previews COF made a typo and accidentally put in the regular price of $3.99 instead of special pricing of $9.99.
  24. Resurrecting from the dead. You can add another one: 2017 Loot Crate (64 page newsprint w/original ads) With likely 500K copy print run, probably easy to find for cheap. Alas, I'm still waiting for my Loot Crate box to arrive.
