  1. DCBS has given up on ordering a lot of variants. They are not offering the Star Wars 40th anniversary variants for example. There are plenty of copies out there, just not from DCBS. That's because the Star Wars 40th anniversary, Hip Hop, Action Figure and most other themed variants (e.g. Jusko Corner Box, Venomized, Gwenpool) have similar ordering requirements as the Skottie Young variants. Sometimes, meeting the target is easier for a smaller store. e.g. You need to order Comic X Cvr A in a quantity of 125% of older Comic Y. If you only ordered 5 copies of Comic Y, then getting 6 copies of Comic X Cvr A qualifies the store to order as many copies of the variant as they want. If you ordered 1000 copies of Comic Y, though, probably harder/riskier to order 1,250 copies of Comic X Cvr A. DCBS still carries the incentive variants. Likely 'cause it's far easier to calculate if you qualify for a ratio variant and how much you need to price them to make your target profit margin than having to look up a number of old orders trying to see if your Cover A orders are large enough to qualify for themed variants. Difference between DCBS and Midtown is DCBS's online store is strictly Previews preorder only. Meanwhile, if Midtown buys extra copies of Cover A to qualify for themed variants, they've got 3 retail stores and a regular online store to sell the excess copies.
  2. For December 2016 sales, I think Marvel probably did either deep discounting or free overships of Star Wars #26. If those are all actual sales, it doesn't make sense that Batman #13 ($2.99, 108K est. units) is at #9 in dollar rankings while Star Wars #26 ($3.99, 104K est. units) is only at #10. Good point. Let me do more research on this and change the posting accordingly. Thank you for reminding me of this. Does anyone know how much of over-ship we are talking about? 10%? 20%? More? I see Bleeding Cool has an article that mentions 50%, but I have a hard time believing that is the case, but it very well could be. Gonna be hard to pinpoint a figure since Dollar Rank #11 is Hulk #1 ($3.99) which also overshipped. Probably the next most accurate point of comparison is Walking Dead #161 ($2.99) at #12 so you've got quite a spread. Probably less than 50% although 50% would actually still fit within the charts. 105K / 150% = 70,000 I'm guessing you're probably looking at somewhere between 70-80K units without the overship. Issue Est. units Cover x Est. units 9. Batman #13 108,407 $324,137 10. Star Wars #26 104,563 $417,206 11. Hulk #1 89,810 $358,342 12. Walking Dead #161 85,459 $255,522 13. ASM #22 63,359 $252,802
  3. Curious, why? Was it featured/discussed on a website or forum somewhere? I am stymied as well. I have no idea why. I was just browsing for books and noticed it. I've know about this for a while and from my LCS, it's because it was a pain to qualify for, making it....wait for it....rare... and moon knight All the Skottie Young variants are a pain to qualify for. They usually require something like cover A orders of 100-150% of *insert tangentially related comic released 2-6 months ago here*. You can order as many as you want once you qualify, though. Even DCBS doesn't bother with most Skottie Young variants. Midtown seems to order a whole bunch though.
  4. I think my favorite ST:TNG story isn't from the series but a novel - Q-in-Law by Peter David. Just straight-up campy fun.
  5. Gorgeous. I certainly favor his style and execution.
  6. I'm pretty sure I've encountered at least one post on this board that said Neal Adams was overrated. No idea who Wrightson is. Besides, just because you don't hate someone's art doesn't mean you automatically like it. There is such a thing as apathy.
  7. This. I don't know, I've never heard anyone say much bad about Adams or Wrightson. I've heard people say... things... about Steranko, but never heard anyone say he sucked. No artist sucks. It's just completely impossible for there be an artist or just anything at all that everyone likes. Nothing in the world is like that. Yep. Can't please everyone.

  9. TNG probably because it's what I watched as a kid.
  10. WOW !! Did Skottie Young die or something...?? Perish the thought. He's pretty active on his website. I want that Old Man Logan & X-23 sketch. http://skottieyoung.com/ I like his art on this website more then his covers. I will admit that the Moon Knight cover is adorable. Might be on the best Young covers I have seen. I think the fact that marvel used him for a variant for every book for like 5 years turned off a lot of collectors, but there are still a few gems out there. Love the Infintiy Gauntlet cover He mostly does the baby covers for #1s. Marvel just happens to release tons of #1s. In any case, I don't mind so much given I can get most of his new baby variants for 15% off cover price at Midtown instead of more expensive 1:x ratio variants. I enjoy most of his baby covers especially when they tell their own story or when there's satire. The team mash-ups are super fun, too. I still have plenty of gaps in my collection so hoping his variants don't drastically increase in price before I get all the ones I like. , that arrow on Hulk's head.
  11. Another store exclusive this time from Hall of Comics. It's nice to see a light version after all the serious ones. I think Mr. Mxyzptlk and Bat-Mite are a perfect fit here so I'm actually tempted to get the entire set for this one. Not sure if it's just the angle but Superboy and Robin's faces look kinda weird though.

  14. And it's almost 70 pages so really awesome value. I believe this has been offered before because there were several copies at my LCS back in Oct/Nov of last year. Hmm, looking at titles in my ebay history, looks like I still need Monstress #1 2nd print. I thought for sure I had already bought one. Really wish I had bought CLZ Comics iOS for cataloging earlier. I just never expected my collection to continue growing so much. I was expecting two short boxes tops.
  15. Interesting. I remember paying $50 for #1-6 VF/NM 1st print. Issue #1 was ~$35+ raw back then. Yep. Also, excellent world building. I greatly enjoy Professor Tam Tam time.
  16. Also, if you don't mind comic strip style, Dilbert by Scott Adams. I've got a Dilbert desk calendar at work.
  17. None. Marvel sells these incentive variants at the same price as the regular covers so they probably get around $3-4 after Diamond's cut.
  18. True but not much 30-year history available for tech for backtesting. Portfolio Visualizer probably has a tool available for this but I haven't really played with the other tools much. Personally, tried lazy portfolio slicing and dicing for a while (Bill Schultheis Coffee House and FundAdvice Ultimate Buy & Hold) but it was way too much work rebalancing and too much temptation to tinker. Now, I stick to the KISS principle and have almost everything in target date funds: 95% contributions to VFORX and 5% goes to VHT with no rebalancing between the two. VHT is my hedge in case health care costs spiral out of control.
