I just got my Robbie back on the standard HQ 75 photo cover. Is it me or is there a new case? I haven't had a book done in a while. This thing is as thick as a magazine case and the inside "holder" or "tray" that holds the book is like loose in the case.

I got mine in the mail a few days ago with the same case/looseness. Another slab I got back recently doesn't have the thicker case, but does seem pretty loose.

I've had minimal books graded within the past year though, so my sample size is small.

It was over 1 Grand with CGC fees, right?

    Hobby is getting expensive, fellas.

Natalie Portman is doing a signing with SWAU sometime this year, and just adding CGC grading onto it bumps the cost up by $240 to a nice even $800.

Trying not to fall into the FOMO mindset...

So with getting the above book back I have some mixed feelings that have been bubbling about SS for a little bit...wanted to see what other people think.

To preference things I have some OCD when it comes to quality, imperfections, and wasting time/money.

I think I am going to stop sending in my own books for SS. I will only be buying books already done, or ones where I can pay for a 9.8. I have gotten much better deals on eBay for books that are already done, and I can see signature quality, placement, and grade. Even if the day is not great, I think I would rather pay up for a book already done that I can see. I have been collecting POPs recently and I have started getting some signed ones (Beckett or JSA certified) and I like those a lot. I can acquire these for much less and make me equally as happy. I feel like I am wasting my money with SS. I don't purchase to sell, but my fandom changes and I have thinned out stuff from time to time and books that I HAD done I have usually lost money on. One thing that is also hard for me are the increasing fees. The above book I paid a total of $167 in various fees, while the autograph tickets cost $160....and that is getting the book submitted just once. I also purchased maybe 10 copies of that book and kept the best one so there was the money I put into that, then to have it shipped to the faciliataor...so the total costs not counting the signing fees was probably more like $200. I do get how it works and I know I am paying people to go to signings for me, and submit for me and such....but to me it is not worth it if there is a chance the book I get back will bother me in some way.

I don't know If that was a rant, or not, but just how I feel at the moment. I would love to hear other people's thoughts!! It has been slow around here anyways!

In regards to the quality of these Cobra Kai books in particular; I bought ~40 and they were all in pretty rough shape. No matter how good photos looked online they still came in with marks on the spine or color breaking spine ticks. Even the copies I special ordered through my LCS came in VF+ condition. I'm not sure if it's a reoccurring problem with IDW comics, but I've personally always had bad luck with most Star Trek books that are saddle stitched as well.

Definitely feels bad when your book comes back at a grade you aren't happy with though.

Again wanted to ask has any one dealt with Catskill comics for the artists they rep. If so how has any one experiences been through them.

Worked with them to get an 11"x17" piece done by Mike Grell. Was arranged to pick up at a con a few years ago. No problems at all, reasonably fast email responses too.

OK, this is a newbie question, I couldn't see the answer in this thread, nor through the search function.

Is a CGC graded signed copy considered of higher or lower value than another copy of the same issue graded at the same level by CGC? That is, is a CGC yellow label 5.0 Stan lee signed book worth more or less than a blue label CGC 5.0 of the same issue? Personally, I would prefer to see the cover as it was created, but interested in what the consensus is for this.

Probably not the answer you want, but it really just depends on who you're asking and the book in question.

I have books signed by Neal Adams, but never had them graded. Can I send these already signed books to the private signing for NA, pay the fees, CGC will witness him will look at them and say yeah that’s mine, and then Ill get the signature series grade? Or will the existing signatures be considered defects and NA will have to sign them again? What’s the rule? New to this. Please help

Welcome to the boards! For future reference you should be able to find questions like this via the search bar up near the top of the page, or potentially in this very thread.

However, here's answers to your questions in case they haven't been answered here:

    1. No, you can't have him give CGC the thumbs up that they're signed by him. A witness needs to be present at the time the book was signed.
    2. If you submit the book as it is, it will get a green Qualified label saying that there's a name written on the cover.
    3. If Neal signs the book again you will get a Signature Series/Qualified label, stating that the book was signed by Neal Adams but there's also a name written on the cover.
  7. I've had only good experiences with Trinity from a customer service standpoint. They seem to have a track record of fixing any mistakes they make in a timely manner too.

When it comes to opening a 9.8 and getting a signature, it doesn't really matter who opens the book - there's potential that it will get a downgrade, like eee91 said. For example, I had Trinity open a 9.8 Captain Marvel #2 Photo Variant. Everything looked great in the slab (I bought it off eBay), but it still came back a 9.6. You win some, you lose some.

    Incredible Hulk #140 (1971) CGC 8.5 s/s Harlan Ellison & Roy Thomas (1st Jarella)
Incredible Hulk #140 (2nd print) CGC 9.8 s/s Harllan Ellison & Herb Trimpe (1st Jarella)
Marvel Fanfare #8 CGC 9.4 s/s Carmine Infantino
    Marvel Team-Up #97 CGC 9.8 s/s Carmine Infantino
    Marvel Team-Up #118 CGC 9.6 s/s Herb Trimpe

I'd be interested in seeing these, as well as the Orphan Black book you mentioned earlier if it's still available.

maybe that's the disconnect. I messaged on FB. And my Googlefu didn'y find it on IG and to be honest I'm fairly dense and didn't think of it. Thanks for the heads up.

Are you part of their "Trinity Comics Convention Services" group on Facebook? They made a post with all the information for the Jim Lee signing there.

  10. I did the Snyder/Capullo meet and greet at Cincinnati Comic Expo a few years ago, and Sharp Comics had a witness up at the signing. Had to follow him down to the show floor to put the books on my account/add more books to the invoice. (The thing was scheduled right as the doors to the con opened, so there was no way to get signatures beforehand.)

At the Conner/Palmiotti experience last year at Cincinnati Comic Expo, One Stop Comic Shop was the facilitator and was able to do the same thing to get Hardin added to one book.

So it really just depends on the facilitator, maybe I just got lucky with who was doing these two? I'm honestly kind of shocked that CGC isn't doing it, especially since they hold private signings for Jim when they're at the same con.

I’m on the verge of tears because I will not be making the show this year :frown:

Ive gone the past 3 years so skipping this year is tough. Too much going on to make it. I love my trip to Chicago from Des Moines once a year...just not in the cards this year. Sucks to miss On site subs. Don’t want to hassle anyone with facilitating. Hoping to make Planet Comic Con at the end of March.

I feel ya here. I've gone for the last 3 years, and have to miss this year since I'm tightening up on money since I started up grad school. :/
Hope to go back in 2021 though - love visiting that city.

Does anyone know if I can get his signature and cgc certified without going to a con.  I don't live close enough to the ones he goes to.  Thanks

Check out the Signature Series forum on here. There's tons of information on sending items to facilitators. (There should be a few thread stickied about it too.)

If you aren't looking for a specific book Artgerm's online store offers graded/signed books directly from him - Albeit at a premium.
