  1. What's the charge for those "PG" and "NG" slabs, anyway? I can't figure it out from the pricing sheet on the cgc site.
  2. Just saw John, the LCS owner who runs the show, this past Wednesday. No witnesses. But he runs a great one-day show; still a worthwhile outing and a good guest list, as well as seller list.
  3. That's a great book, Greg, a Lee/Kirby original tale, but it doesn't pick up where the regular run left off. I actually thought that Fireside book reads like a Christ allegory. Of course it's been a while; I should reread it and see if it still hits me that way.
  4. Last-minutes specials, cuz some folks don't like to negotiate and send PM's, I realize: Take Lobo #1 at $75 Take Doom Patrol #86 at $60 Take Doom Patrol #121 at $25
  5. Eureka! I was wondering if it was just a term bandied about by a few dealers in my area, but then I recalled I had a very old (#8 -- 1977) OSPG, and sure enough....
  6. I hate that term for comics because I recall it as a come lately term that came over from baseball cards. Am I the only one (I need someone else who has been collecting since the 80's at least) who remembers that the term for a (allegedly) flawless comic was "pristine mint?" I first heard the term "gem mint" connected with baseball cards, in the same timeframe. Too much info/background, depending on your perspective -- when I was in high school, a friend of mine and I (he was a card collector) ran a series of comic and card shows to further our collecting and fund our concert tickets. I remember both terms (in excessive overuse) from the dealers of both items, respectively. Anyone else recall the term "pristine mint" for a so-called flawless comic?
  7. Varies by state, IIRC. New Mexico, one of the Dakotas, a couple others are low-cost. Sad how the great, mighty internet is supposed to level the playing field for the little guy but broad-based love of convenience enables a few monopoly players. I honestly would rather go to a bajillion different little sites to shop comics (eg - rma.com, other boardie.com, etc) than a couple of online behemoths. But I am clearly in the minority. Sorry for the rant; but that's the real problem. Back to the actionable topic at hand -- I think New Mexico is cheapest, but there's a few contenders. Maybe someone with more knowledge than I have can post you more specifically.
  8. Prices are now as follows: Lobo #1 GD -- $80 Thor #133 VF/NM -- $125 Conan #58 NM -- $50 Strange Tales #130 VF/NM -- $150 Doom Patrol #86 VG/FN -- $80 Doom Patrol #121 FN minus -- $30 U.S. shipping is $7, one book or all, and Canada ships at actual.
  9. Okay, that's it for this thread. I only really intended to offer up the Lobo once I got an upgrade. But I've been in the process of reviewing my slabbing candidates pile and, during that same time, I have heard from two different local guys whose books I've been pursuing for the last two years -- both have finally located their books, and I am to be shown the stacks in the next two weeks. (Located sounds odd, I know, but consider both are primarily antiques generalists/house clean-out guys I know who both "have some older comics somewhere.") So I've decided to be make the slabbing pile smaller with a couple unknowns of strong potential in front of me.
  10. Doom Patrol #121 in FN-. Final issue and death of the Doom Patrol. (Yes, I know issues 122-124 exist, but they came later and are reprints of earlier material. This was the final original material of the first run.) As Murray Boltinoff and Bruno Premiani explain in their appearance on the splash, barring reader demand, the DP was finished. And for a loooong time, they were. $30
  11. Strange Tales #130 VF/NM 1st Kaecilius; Beatles appearance. I believe this is also the first cover in the run where Dr Strange takes the lead spot on the cover. Flat, glossy copy with three nicks across the top, above the "N" and "G" in the logo, a couple nicks across bottom, below Doc's Iger for, and a color break in the shadow belowmDoc's left knee. $150
  12. Conan # 58 1st Belit. NM $50 (To clarify, because a great boardie PM'ed me and got me thinking -- this is perhaps best described as the first full Marvel appearance of Belit as a character in Marvel Conan continuity. OSPG calls out Giant-Size Conan #1, but that's a one-off appearance of a blonde with a pirate crew. This is the first appearance of the ongoing character. Fun fact: an authorized Belit first appeared in a Mexican comic book in 1952.)
  13. Thor #133 in VF/NM. 1st full Ego, the Living Planet. Note one slight nick upper right edge, slight rounding lower left corner, very minimal spine wear, and tiny color-breaking crease up near VC stamp. Gorgeous, flat, glossy copy. $125
