  1. And I'd like to thank another great boardie (thanks Straw! ) for parting with this Rockford beauty!
  2. I'm completed out, myself. I have complete runs of The Defenders, Avengers, and Iron Man (original runs only; 1-402 and 1-332). And a full set of Godzilla autographed by Herb Trimpe. i've parted with many smaller sets after completing and reading them: Champions, SuperVillain Team-up, Secret Society of Super Villains, Morrison's JLA, West Coast Avengers, Elementals, Justice Machine, etc. I have a couple completed but yet to read Marvel's Doc Savage, and Jonah Hex from All-Star Western 10 thru Hex 18. It was near-complete when I acquired it, so I finished it. There's also a full set of Silver Surfer 1-18 but that's getting sold in a week or two. Buyer saving up. Avengers, Defenders, Iron Man maybe Godzilla are around for a while. Other than that, I'm chasing my grails, some unicorns (obscure books) and a few readers I've always wanted.
  3. Congrats on the adoption of your daughter!
  4. I did, and it worked! Funny story, I learned (though I'd always realized, it's not the same until the moment when you don't do what you know you should...then it's ingrained for life!) when I bought my first GA Cap, something I had long wanted. The seller had no intention of asking the price marked on it; he merely put mint guide prices on his bags for a reference point (go figure!) Anyway, I had a top dollar price in mind (well below mint #) but when he blurted out a number under what I was willing to pay, I just said "sold!" With no thought to whether I could have gotten it cheaper. (It was a flea market guy who specialized in records; he received a few GA books in an estate purchase of albums. The seller just threw them in the box and said take these too, he told me. I bought the rest, but haggled.
  5. Thanks again! It was hard to actually negotiate rather than just pay his asking price, but I had bought a Mad #1 and #4 from the same guy and knew he had a tendency to mark well above what he would take. So I held out figuring he would not get the traffic this time of year, then went back at him. I got lucky that no one stumbled across them in the time it took to play out.
  6. A) you're waaaay too kind! B) I don't think I can part with it yet (I did just land it after a few weeks of haggling)
  7. I don't know how you did it, but it's brilliant! Congrats!
  8. Congrats! Great grade on one of the all-time great Marvel slugfests!
  9. I'm not generally a sig collector but I figured I should share this gem with you guys.
  10. I don't think I will ever know, but it was cool to open it up and find the Archie bullpen all over it!
  11. I'll second that! I love the early Hulks, and they getting to be both less frequently offered and quickly snatched up in any grade....I bought a small OA collection of Marvel silver (30 books, posted a few pages back) really just to get the Hulk 6 that was in the mix. Sold about a dozen to a fellow collector, still have the full Surfer set, but I know I won't keep it. But that Ditko Hulk issue
  12. Thank you! That's too bad, but it does seem to answer it.
  13. Thank you! I've never had anything pressed and was not sure whether it could inadvertently introduce subtle damage, such as spine stress. I've read about it, but I've yet to find transparency of technique. (Which I understand on one hand, but I wish I understood what exactly is done to the book.)
  14. Thx ComicQuant! It's not; but the rest of the book is flat as a pancake, clean, and tick-free along the spine. Is the press a risk to that, or can they work on just a corner?
  15. Thx! Like I said, it wasn't dollar-bin cheap, but certainly reasonable for what it is. And I don't know if that movie rumor is the sole fuel, but I noticed as Comicjack said that the #1 seems to be warming up, so I was happy to stumble across them. Maybe it's just that Subby is the only major Marvel title to be sitting cold longer than FF? Y'know, we've probably all had the a-ha moment with some title from time to time, "Hey, these books are cheap for their weight class? Why not?"
  16. Awesome, congrats! Thought maybe 8's and 9's; good for you!
  17. That helps, thanks! That weird upper left pizza-grease looking area and the needless tape kill it! Structurally, it's solid. OW pages, cover well-attached, square binding looks good other than lower bit that you can see already, cover flat and gloss still pretty high.
