  1. PGM Silver Surfer #1

Picked up a full set 1-18 from a collector's estate; everything else is solid VG up through 8.5-9.0ish, with the majority falling in 6.0-7.0 territory, but this #1 has pesky and unnecessary tape on front and back covers. Here's the front; look at letters across bottom for tape strip.

Hey amigo! you are everywhere ;)  Testing waters here. Found some good deals on the IG so why not here?. As you know, I am a sucker for Golden Age comics so if the right trade comes along I will take it. Otherwise I will hold this beauty .... thanks for stopping by

I get it! I'm camping on this thread to see the trade offers, and what if anything gets you to pull the trigger on a trade deal. Cheers, and again, welcome to the boards, Pablo!

Happy to land the last of the Fox Giants today

    image_zpsc3lkem3i.jpeg

I want to apologize for confusing you guys....I did not complete a set of Fox Giants; I merely acquired the final issue of the run. That said, I think it's one of the toughest. There's one on the registry, and it's not in the Gerber Photo-Journal. And if you Fox guys haven't seen it before, I KNOW it's tough!

  4. Someone say Swamp Thing? Just picked these up from a collector's estate. Near-full short box, about 150 books, all swamp thing second run (near complete, obviously) from 1-152 including most of the keys, if I'm not mistaken: 1, 20, 21, 25, 37, 50, annual  HOS92 homage cover. Couldn't leave them there even though I've read it already!

Oh, I'm sorry...thanks but I did not finish. I meant this was the last issue of the Fox Giants run. I think they are pretty uncommon. There's only 1 on the registry. Curiously, the contents are slightly different from those listed in GCD. But it does have an issue of Pedro, and the GGA in the Chiquita story appears top-notch at first glance. Just settled kids; will check the book out shortly.

To be honest and looking back now, virtually all of the prices for the comic books pictured and listed in their brochure were relatively reasonable.  (thumbsu

It was the prices for the piles of books that were pulled out and set aside for Steve and Bob to priced out later that went through the stratosphere and became relatively unreasonable.  And I guess we would have the East Coast Triumvirate to thank for that and how they subsequently handled the Terrific 5 transaction.  :flipbait:  :frown:

I would love to have beers with you and hear these stories! I was not there; I'm just looking back at the brochure. How cool that must have been.

  7. Without regard to ranking, 11 books have been named thus far in the thread if I have counted correctly: Action 1, Tec 27, Supes, Bats, Cap, Marvel, AF15, AA16, Fantastic 3, Suspense 3, All-Star 8.

Are the "right" 10 in those 11? If no, who is in? Who is out? I guess that all comes ahead of ranking. That's all rhetorical as yet; would need to think on my own answers. Pep 22 comes to mind for me.

of course, we usually correlate biggest with price tag, but if we look at impact upon the hobby and its creators through the years, it's easy to take many of those grails off the list in favor of much "cheaper" books such as CDNP22 or Mad 1 and All-Star 3.

Well, since that was 22 years ago back in 1995, the prices on all of the books would look like a bargain today.  :gossip:

Since the condition guide price for the Black Terror #1 was at only $310 back then, the brochure listed price of $600 might not seem like such a bargain after all.  hm

    Geez, Lou...I'm being a bit silly:gossip:

Point is, then or now, Black Terror #1 looks like the Mediterranean Ave of this Monopoly board.

That said, some of those books are basically kinda flat at best, considering the 22 years (Tec 225, World's Best #1). But obviously more than not would be considered bargains today.
