  1. When I found this today.....the seller was a retired Western Printing guy....came from a stack of file copies, very nice but not as nice as they should have been, probably due to his less than stellar storage since the late 80's...still, there was Secret Agent #1, some Man from UNCLE, Bonanza, Lassie, and most every 1949 issue of Roy Rogers. And a Dale Evans 3 with a great Toth cover. I kept myself to this one.

and Solar from GK.  And M.A.R.S. Patrol.

And also Frogmen covers, starting with the Dell series and working out from there. :cloud9:

You guys are bringing out the comic-whore in my tonight..., :insane:

Ironic we are all losing it on a thread about how to stay focused....but...

"It's not very long, but it's sure big around...., the girls all call me tuna-fish can."  - compliments of the Great Lizard

There is a nice other collecting theme in the Hall-of-Heads covers.  I haven't made any progress in those.  I WIIIIISH this was my copy, but clink was unforgiving:

I want any copy, myself! Missed out on an affordable one on eBay this weekend. Forgot end time even though I put it on my watch list. You have one?

Please do, I would love to see that set.

There is one Gold Key run I have always wanted to read...Space Family Robinson.

I don't think I'm crazy enough...but if I see any Space Family Robinsons I'll deport them to my neighbor to the north! (I'm in Gold Key country so I Actually see them around.)

The one in the Blazing Comics run to hunt down is the #5, and I do not mean the plethora of re-coverd remainders that are everywhere.  They did actually produce a #5 that has a Green Turtle interior.  I have found only two in my many years of collecting that title.  There is also a #6, but I have no idea how that came to be as it has nothing to do with the Turtle, and you hardly ever see it show up.  Very fun and cool esoteric title and one that won't cost $$$$$$$ to find copies of.

Absolutely; it's all effort....Is the 5 with the Green Turtle wrapped in the same buccaneer cover? The six has an Indian cover, if I recall correctly. You don't see it much. It is a cool anthology title with some great art, and the first Chinese superhero, by an Asian-American artist to boot! (Burma Boy might be the greatest 40's sidekick name of them all.)

    Hadn't even noticed that!

I don;t know, you may be onto something with the fish in the face collecting.

There is something about a guy using a fresh catch as a weapon, really takes the one with nature thing to a whole other level.

I have at times thought about pursuing giant octopus covers, and flamethrower covers, but I have thus far held myself in check.

That's a tough one. But I do prefer the COR, design-wise.  Plus, it was my first F-N-T-F book.  Nothing like the first time.  :cloud9:

    Que the sappy Foreigner music....,

But the Mile High.... probably the only one of those I'll ever own. :sorry:

I missed that it's the Mile High copy...but it's late and my comics brain is spread thin with pending buys, sales, and trades. And Ben and Jerry's has invented Chocolate Cherry Garcia, which has also impacted my evening ...

You don't prefer the Blue Bolt?

    I KNOW I can't afford to!

Actually, it's just that the Criminals on the Run has been on my radar ever since buying Scott Shaw's card set. Buy one; they're cheap. Then you'll hunt relentlessly for 40 more obscure books and willingly overpay!

Very surprised at the census on the Blazing Comics #1.  I really like that quirky run and happen to have two copies of #1.  To the point of this thread however....

Terrific Comics #1:  8 copies in census

Terrific Comics #2:  10 copies in census

Terrific Comics #3:  6 copies in census

The rest of the run jumps up to 14 or more per copy in the census.  So Terrific #3 is rare as........

I think Blazing is one of those under the radar gems that a few of us love ... I bet there's not all that many total; it doesn't come up for sale often. Similarly, though early 50's, that Police 109 has only four listed and I have two raw. Again, under the radar, probably not a ton of them, and an awesome cover (bondage, headlights, racist stereotypes villain).

Absolutely.  Yes, yes, targets of opportunity.

I gave up the idea of completing anything years ago.  :gossip:  Although I did just finish my 1966 Teen Titans run - had to settle for an 8.5 on #29, but as near as I can tell, I got it for dirt cheap - and since it's CGC'd there is a 30/100 that it's either a 9.0/9.2 or a 30/100 it's 7.5/8.0 - I'm game for those odds.

At some point, I had my "why am I doing this?" Moment with so many runs. I took a good look and moved off the stuff I knew I was not going to read again (80's Justice League, Morrison JLA, Peter David Hulks and Aquaman, JSA, Warlord, X-Men above 150, West Coast Avengers, Justice Machine. Etc.) Then I reread and decided on many runs (Elementals, Champions, super villain team-up, secret society of super-villains). None of which made the cut.

Now I am down to three sizable full runs (Avengers, Iron Man, Defenders) that I will read through once before making any moves. (By Avengers and Iron Man, I mean just original numbering; through 402 and 332 respectively. Anything after that wa culled early, even though I enjoyed that vol 3 with lots of Busiek/Perez.)

And I still want a Yellow Claw 3 and 4, but I don't think of GA/atomic era short series as a completist affliction. I managed to bail on Boys Ranch with three of six issues missing so I tell myself I don't have a problem. :insane:
