  1. It should be a fun finish, zzu. When it's all over, we may find that grading the actual books was easier than working out who to give 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 6th to
  2. Holidaying in the United States of Kingdom, judging by the weather...
  3. Maybe we should put a few together and I'll send them to him, what do you think? If you haven't already seen it, there's a good interview in From The Tomb #18 and 19 which gives a flavour of what he remembers (albeit 20 years ago). And the 30th Century video interview from 2015 of course.
  4. I posted this over in the Alan thread, but those of you who don't go there might like to see it - or even buy it...
  5. The boards can be quirky like that sometimes Rich. Sounds like you tried this, but make sure you delete the image in the body of the post itself, but also in the 'choose files' field too (see below): That usually does it.
  6. Fellow participants! Last year I won the sixth contest and bagged a $500 grading credit that I'm never going to use. With Mike's blessing, I would like to offer that $500 credit to whoever comes sixth in this, current contest. Six is a favourite number of mine, if you hadn't already guessed. So, let it be known - if you want to win some grading credits, try to come first, second, third or sixth this time. Good luck to everyone and thanks to Mike for agreeing to the transfer 37pino @1Cool @AbsoluteCarnage @ADAMANTIUM @Ahsoka Tano Jedi Apprentice @aj_curated @AJD @alecholland @AnthonyTheAbyss @apocalypse76 @ArAich @ArcherC @ashsaytr @asteroid-comix @aszumilo @Axelrod @batcollector @Batman Fett @Benjamin1977 @BlackOut21 @Bmattioli86 @boron @BrashL @brumil190 @BuscemasAvengers @canickus @Carpendaddy @Cerebus3000 @CHASEnBLUE @CJ Design @Cman429 @comicstock @ChrispyC66 @comicginger1789 @Crose87420 @Cushing Fan @Dark Elf @Darwination @davidking623 @Deputy Dan @Doctor Dositheus @Dormian @Dr. Ogie Porterhouse @EastEnd1 @eeb03 @Electron @F For Fake @FigaroToe @flashlites @frozentundraguy @FSQIV @GawkHawk @genrlzod @grendelbo @Grendel72 @Hudson @Jackhartmann @jas1vans @jayhawker @jbpez @jcjames @Jesse-Lee @JohnH19 @John R @JollyComics @JWKyle @Kramerica @KryptoMayor @LiftedAndShifted @Lninefingers @makeminemarvel @Mars76 @mattn792 @mikenyc @misterrmystery @Morganmi @Motor City Rob @Mr. Zipper @musicmeta @ned @Nschenks @old_dano @Old Fashion PB and J @Panda2 @paqart @pastandpresentcomics @Pickie @pmpknface @Point Five @Ride the Tiger @sagii @Sandflea @scburdet @silverseeker @skypinkblu @SNiPER @southern cross @spidermanbeyond @SpidersComics @Supa-Bad-Mofo @Superman2006 @TC33 @TheGeneral @thehumantorch @TheTallGuy @thingsofstuff @thirdgreenham @timfinz @tmac100 @Tom789 @topcat54 @topofthetotem @toro @trmoore54 @TSwift25 @TTG @Vince G @Warlord @William-James88 @WilliamLunt @Wipple @Withering Wind @Yorick @zzutak
  7. Here it is, along with my copy of Flash Space Age Comic #3: Crime-Buster #2, dated MCMLIX, 'Commencing in March' back cover. Flash Gordon Space Age Comic #3, dated MCMLIX, 'Now on Sale' back cover. There are other WDL titles to check, Brick Bradford and Manhunt being two, but I've only found the 'Commencing in March' blurb on the Crime-Buster #2 so far. The ad appears on the last four issues in the six book Flash run, and the 'Now on Sale' wording appears on all of them. Sooper
  8. Classy item on the 30th Century website this morning: https://30thcenturycomics.co.uk/british-comics-update-alan-class-printing-plate-set-sinister-tales-23 I'm sorely tempted, if only to spend 30 minutes on Zoom with the man himself! How cool would that be! Great to see he's still with us, and looking good
  9. I think you misunderstood me Richmond - in your post with all the copies, the first and last copies are the same 9d stamped image. I thought that was by mistake. Consensus!
  10. I'm sorry Mike, you're right, that was overly harsh. Please don't let my isolated comment influence your thinking and please do carry on. Apologies to everyone who read it too. I'll go and lie down in a darkened room for a while, after a self-enforced spell on the naughty step.
  11. Who knows, Yoz. Miller occasionally used branded and unbranded 6d stamps. Maybe there was a reason for that, or significance to them, maybe there wasn't. I've not studied the ones that appear during T&P stamping runs to any great degree to reasonably determine if they are even theirs.
  12. You have the same 9d copy up twice Rich. Assuming the manufacturer was asked to make them up new 10d stamps, the presence of the numbering indicates that it was still important operationally at this point. They could have just carried on with what went before without thinking I suppose. It likely was intentional though, as they would have continued with that months number if it still had operational meaning.
  13. You're in luck Benjamin. He's due back in a couple of weeks for his second annual 'did anyone reply to my post' thread check
  14. The prices changed from 9d to 10d around that issue with the majority being 10d. The linked copy is the one I have saved in the files, so it must have been on eBay for yonks.
  15. Indeed. Obsessed with contrivance, they are... A new competition starts, bringing with it the hope of a nice mix of eras and grades... The books are revealed...
  16. These am hard very. Sharon, if dart boards are a thing, I've hit the bloke doing the scoring five times this round. Do you think there's a book below 7.5 anywhere in our future? If I see another ten high grades with camera glare spines on black backgrounds I'm packing it in. Probably!
  17. I think I'd be doing better in this one if I had submitted last year's grades
  18. I know. We're all doomed this time, Hudson. The winner will be whoever's the luckiest guesser. Unless it's me of course, then it will be down to the application of long-honed skills and judgement.
