Admittedly Moon Knight is not a household name in collectors eyes. He’s no Sal Buscema. Wait did I just compare a comic character to a Top 5 artist? uhhh...OK maybe MK is no Don Perlin. Or maybe better to say he’s in there with Deathlok. Cool but not a superstar. I just loved MK 1 and remember my brother and I bought it off the comic shelf in Tampa Florida during a road trip. I knew zero about art but we loved the way those early issues were drawn and the stories. My gut on the page is it has potential for a higher ceiling but agree whole heartedly with you about adjusting for inflation. I would have paid up to 5 K for the page because I’m a fan of that issue. That doggone influencer known as Nostalgia rears it’s ugly head. We are in agreement my friend.

I called them to clear up the 0-28% scale. They do provide options but of course I’m used to auction online with eBay, HA and C Link. Easier for me but imagine 28% on a $750,000 bid. So bidding online with PIH will cost us the most. No please don’t do the math and hurt your heads fellow board friends. ITS A LOT OF DOUGH

I was very fond of this issue. This page is an important moment in MK history. when it was around $6600 I was out of the running. Congratulations to the new owner.

When will you ever see a very early Jack Kirby splash get passed over for a mere $39,000 dip your toe reserve? 1)When Don Heck ruins whatever Kirby had underneath When the “lettering” for The Mighty Thor-Lava Man resembles a third graders 1st subway car tagging “assignment.” Missed out? Listed for sale at a cool $40,000.

I personally loved the page but if this was purely investment a tad risky? I had it about $9-$10 K so definitely surprised.
-
Fair warning to everyone all online bidding is going to cost you 28% of the final sales price. Depending on where you live add sales tax so ouch. I think that’s because I Collect has to get their share. Cheapest bite is 20% by registering For telephone, mail in or in person bids. Still time but better read up on it. That cuts I Collect out of it I believe. Sales tax if applicable still applies.

I remember doing that ha ha. Wasn’t thrilled but Michael is easy to deal with. The hold falls off in a week.

The examples you provided are very good. $30-$80 seems fair. Looks like watercolor and mixed media....I wish I could find some Romita Spideys for those prices...Hello 80’s and early 90’s

How "seriously" is OA taken by the mainstream art world?
grapeape replied to NC101's topic in Original Comic Art
On this thread Mental wanking? On the HA 2020 thread pulling a train and Deliverance references?... in response to the ASM Kingpin and gang Cover all standing over a fallen Spidey....and Green Goblin splash where Gobby helps Spidey touch his toes? Banjos? Purty mouths? BRING OUT THE GIMP? What has happened to our civilized community? -

I have zero cred in the fine art community but I’d hang Tradd next to Salvador Dali and Picasso at Le Museum de GrapeApe. -
How "seriously" is OA taken by the mainstream art world?
grapeape replied to NC101's topic in Original Comic Art
It's true. They don't have to respect it to wade in as speculators. I have nightmares of a couple a rich guys handing over a(discretion purchase-account with performance reward) to the Donnelys and telling them, " buy what you think will out perform the S&P for the next 5 years."Of course the one Donnely brother will have to ask his brother, "what is the S&P?" In any case joking aside it's a double edged sword. Additional wealth invested into our hobby makes some of the art in our portfolios rise in value. Now we seem to be at the point where we're all fighting for 4-6 figure pieces we could of had for hundreds of dollars at one point. I talked with my friends about the likely hood of Disposable income speculators entering our market as far back as 1997. It became an arms race of sorts. It was easy actually. Seemed like whatever I wanted to get I had a serious shot at it. e-bay was a tremendous source of original art at one time. So much material that you would make great buys constantly. Bidders had trouble focusing because there was so much art to choose from. 1999-2004 was a great time to buy art. As for (newcollector101) I recommend taking your time. I know it's tempting to buy yourself in as a "player." Forget all that. 1) learn the artists, especially the inkers!!!! If you don't know the inkers you are going to make huge purchase mistakes. They can make or break the beauty of a page. Who was Jack Kirby's best inker(s) etc. 2) Learn the pricing FMV vs. I gotta have it pricing. Are you over paying? That will take time. 3) Arrange these in any order but buy what you love. You will be happier that way. It's very hard (not impossible) to jump right in buying pieces that will sky rocket in value. take your time and learn. -

I was going to....but she beat me to the punch. I guess insisting that she call me by my board name grape ape was the last straw. -

CGC boardie grapeape shocked the art world by eating the $120,000 banana and replacing it with a Sal Buscema Hulk page. -

Fine art or comic art I could give a toss about being accepted into a club. I saw these and knew what they were. The first is a Rembrandt which I had the pleasure to view in Balboa Park, San Diego. The second, an ASM Sal Buscema page. Though a few dollars may separate them as far as FMV, I love them equally for the sake of art! Rembrandt at the Timken Museum of Art Buscema currently at C-Link -

Lee if you have the catalog with the Wrightson Frankenstein that sold for $36,000 back in 96-99? that would be timely to post a pic in the Profiles in History thread. -
Artist Shane Davis has art portfolio stolen
grapeape replied to PhilipB2k17's topic in Original Comic Art
It was buddy but this is for a good cause. -
No need to apologize for Ross Andru. The artist did a superb job. Should be on every top ten list. i would like to hope that in the same way people refer to Romita as the man who introduced them to Spidey, the Andru crowd is remembering their time of discovery fondly and unapologetically.

If John Byrne's on your list Merry Christmas. ASM 189. At C-Link currently $2200.

Fed Extra Stupid Experience with HA package
grapeape replied to MyNameIsLegion's topic in Original Comic Art
I would have assumed at minimum HA would take the precaution of signature confirmation. Hold and pickup should always be an option when the recipient can’t be home to receive packages. It’s not like they are delivering bottle caps. This is one of a kind irreplaceable art.
