  1. Schultz fakes are getting more sophisticated. There are now known examples of people faking daily strips.
  2. On a related, but separate note, I wish to express my condolences to Scott regarding the tragic loss of his wife a couple years ago in an auto-accident.
  3. I'm waiting to see who will be the first person in our hobby to get a piece restored by Robert Wayne Dennis since January 6, 2021
  4. I rule out Everett because I don't think the Namor looks like Everett's Namor. I agree on the Marie Severin attribution.
  5. And, of course, a big Stan Lee signature in the middle of the art.
  6. I was just recently offered a nice sum for one of my modern pages. And by Modern, I mean something less than 10 years old. And it's not superhero or from one of the big 3 publishers. So, you never know.
  7. Ain't gonna happen for a long, long time. Maybe if our civilization collapses and archaeologists find this stuff in caves or vaults in a couple thousand years, it will be regarded as objects of art -- like a painted Grecian urn. But not for a while -- except for maybe a few crossover examples like Chris Ware or Emil Ferris.
  8. I think the insane price recently paid for that Sue Storm cleavage revealing costume answers your question.
  9. The other 75% played for the Wisconsin Badgers or the Purdue Boilermakers.
  10. There's something to this. As high-end pieces keep accumulating in the hands of well-off collectors/investors, you may see a slowdown in market velocity. It's a wealth transfer for longtime collectors of relatively modest means who are getting older and see a chance to cash in and retire, etc. We might have had a shaking out of a lot of that kind f stiff over the past few years and are now entering a more stable period of equilibrium. Eventually, however, those high-end pieces will hit the market again as the younger collectors decide to downsize/retire, or their families sell them off in estate sales.
  11. Not a good analogy. If a business continually takes advantage of its customer base (for various reasons) the market should dictate what happens: People stop doing business with them. If that happens, they have to either change their business practices, or stop gaming the tax laws by pretending to be dealers.
  12. My rule of thumb is that a well-watched piece is probably going to double in price from the final pre-auction bid after the live auction starts. That's my target estimate. It's not foolproof, but it generally works.
  13. I got 24 total votes on 5 entries. It was a decent showing. Correction. I got 29 votes. I forgot to tally the votes for one of my entries. I feel good about this, given the level of competition.
  14. I'm just expressing my preference. I see the merit in motivating people to unearth nice pieces from the black hole on CAF for others to enjoy. But, to me, if you've been holding onto a piece for 10 years, or five years, only to drop it on CAF in December so you can get a Thor's Hammer, I don't know if I agree with that. But, whatever. I don't have any way of policing it, or proving my point.
  15. I think if you buy it, and it's on the way, you can count it.
  16. I get that. But I’d prefer if it were limited to pieces that were acquired during the year. Makes it more interesting.
  17. I knew that. But it seems like some of the pieces being posted were not actually acquired during the past year, but only added to CAF. I don't know how you could police that in any case. I only submitted pieces that I had acquired during the year.
  18. I am curious about the criteria for these things. Do you have to add the art to CAF during the year? Or acquire the art AND add it to CAF. Because it seems like a lot of heavy hitters are adding pieces they’ve had in their collections for a while. Maybe I’m wrong, of course.
  19. I think if any of your entries in the top 4 or 5 categories get over 5 votes, given the number of entries and the level of competition, you're doing well.
  20. Just thought I'd start one, because these Wednesday auctions tend to fall under the radar and have not been seeing good prices lately.
