There have been numerous times that I have overpaid for a book. I decided that I wanted the book badly enough to help justify my purchase. However, I wouldn't have factored the "you made it that much harder for other people to get a copy in the current market climate of 'last sale = going rate'" at all in my decision. I'd like to get a replacement copy of JiM #85 that I sold to finance my AF #15 purchase. But I don't blame people that have purchased for what I consider to be an extravagant price for pricing this book out of my range. I'm sure that if I brought this point to a buyer, the response I would get would likely be, "I don't give a rat's rear end about how it affects you." Nor should they.

No where in my post did I say he should feel bad or concern himself about what this sale does to the market.  I was simply stating facts and the reality of the situation.  For the record I don't think he should care, I certainly don't, I've overpaid for just about every book I own.  I also realize it's not his fault and it takes two to drive up the price of an auction, but I'm still allowed to feel bad for people that are being priced out from buying big books because of sales like this.  It's his right to pay whatever he wants for a book, just as it's my right to shake my head.

  4. While your point is well taken that not all copies within grade are created equal, your example is an extreme case.  Sure I'd rather have your 0.5 over that particular 2.0.  But there are also an abundance of 2.0 copies out there that I'd rather have over your 0.5.  Brian's point was that for the same amount of money (and a little patience or expanding your search beyond Heritage) you could have found a well presenting complete copy 2.0.  But instead you severely overpaid and made it that much harder for other people to get a copy in this current market climate of "last sale = going rate".  That being said, I do wish you a sincere congratulations as I am happy for you (and anyone) fortunate enough to be able to buy my favorite book in the entire hobby.  I just feel for those that are being priced out from buying because of sales like this.

  5. For sale is the following:

    Incredible Hulk #180

    1st Wolverine (Cameo)

    Grade:  9.0 VF/NM

    Page Quality:  WHITE

    Cert. # 383603001

Last 9.0 Sale = $3,605 (Miscut copy with abnormally thick top border).  Before you message me quoting this sale as the going rate for the grade, the last five 8.5 sales average out to $3,500 with the last sale being $4,200.  I won’t sell for less than that sale.  I’ve priced this 9.0 between that last 8.5 sale ($4,200) and the last 9.2 sale ($5,000) which I believe to be a fair price.

    ASKING PRICE:  $4,600

Additionally (and this has no bearing on my pricing), there are three blue label copies on eBay in either grade 8.5 or 9.0 and the lowest ask is $5,050.

UPDATE:  Would consider a partial trade involving an Ultimate Fallout 4 CGC 9.8 1st Print and $1,750 PayPal.

That was a pretty good deal on the CBCS book IMHO. In my personal experience every crossover I have done have come back 1 to 2 grades higher.

Just comes full circle to buying the book and not the label.

Don't be surprised when you see this book in a CGC holder soon :P

Not saying that the person didn't get a deal, but that's your experience.  Every book I've sent to CGC for crossover they've all come back the same grade or lower (shrug)
