A truly incredible accomplishment Dave -- something to be proud of for sure! I too will be very curious to learn what your next collecting goals might be.
It was a pretty good week for my Spidey collection as well ... I was finally able to swing a deal for this beautiful book, upgrading from my 9.0:
With this book, I now have #10 through #100 in 9.4. I still need to upgrade my 9.0 copies of #7 and #9 to be able to say I have #6 through #100 in 9.4.
That is NEXT level impressive! Congratulations!! 10 through 100 in 9.4 is just mind blowingly amazing to me!
Right now I don't have any collecting goals in mind. I'm burned out to be honest, so I need to take a break. Going to revel in this accomplishment for awhile.

Well today is the day! The final piece, ASM#7 has been found, has arrived, and is now in hand completing my linear run of AF15, ASM 1-20, and Annual 1 all in the same grade and page quality (5.0 White Pages).
This project started back in January 2019. I had already had an ASM1 and ASM14 both in grade 5.0 in my collection. It was during this month that I upgraded my AF15 from a 4.0 WP to 5.0 WP, which made this entire run a possibility. From there I set my sights on procuring the original Sinister Six first appearances and Annual 1 all in the same grade and page quality. I bought the Annual 1 first, a 5.0 WP to match my AF15 and ASM1, and over the next few months picked up the rest of 2, 3, 4, 9, 13 and 15. I sacrificed some big books in my collection, including an X-Men 1 3.5 WP and DD1 4.5 WP to finance these purchases and make this all happen. Nothing makes me happier than collecting ASM, so even though it was extremely difficult to part with those big SA keys, I don't regret it, especially with where I sit now. By November 2019 I had acquired all of the first appearance and crossover keys between AF15/ASM1 and ASM20 (notably 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 13, 14, 15 and 16. I thought I was done, but the collecting itch remained to fill in the gaps and make it a complete run from 1-20. I know the completionists out there will suggest I acquire ST Annual 2, FF Annual 1, TTA 57, and ST 115, but I'm good with keeping this run all within the ASM title, with the exception of AF15 of course. Two years later, on November 3rd, 2021, while I was sitting in an autobody shop parking lot at 8:30am waiting for my car's state inspection to be done, the final piece, ASM7, popped up on the ebay app on my phone. I clicked buy it now, finally completing/accomplishing my goal
If you'll all indulge me, in the next few posts I'll do a little countdown from ASM20 to AF15 so you can see all of the books individually. Thanks to everyone on the boards who kept their eyes peeled and supported me along this journey.

I just looked at your #7 on myslabbedcomics.com. That’s a beautiful place holder you got. I recently sent in #5 and it got a purple label!!! ARRRRGH! It cost me $2000 to replace it. I wish I had noticed the small color touch years ago. I was able to get $960 for it though when I auctioned it off on eBay. Beat a sharp stick to the eye, as they say.
Thanks! I really thought it was the magic copy to finish off the run, but the search continues…
That’s a real bummer about the restoration on your ASM5. As the previous poster said however, at least you got half the cost to replace it with a beautiful higher graded copy! It really is a beauty

You missed my point. As for your "reason 1," to the extent that ASM#1 in 9.0 is a min cutoff for high-grade completionists, hasn't it always been so? Certainly the relative scarcity in grade has been known forever. So My question is why NOW? What has happened as of August 1st to change a 9.0 being valued about 2x 8.0 value to being valued more than 10x 8.0 value? Your "reason 1" above does not answer that--it begs the question, actually. And your "reason 2", should also have been applicable forever as a sympton of "reason 1." Are you saying that on August 1st, you expected a 9.0 ASM#11 to go for $36.5K? Honestly? A 9.0 sold for only $4080 in Feb 2019, when an 8.0 sold in March 2019 for $1,950. The fact that a 9.6 (!) sold for only $15.5K in Feb 2018 also begs the question, despite being 3.5 years ago.
At the end of the day, if folks have no other explanation for what happened, then fine. I was hoping for something, anything, more concrete and tied to the suddenness/magnitude of the bump in 9.0 valuation, like Brant-related spec specific to the issue. The lack of transparency irked me a bit.
I didn't miss your point. I just think you're trying to draw blood from a stone with your persistence. You can ask this question about countless books that surged since March without any rhyme or reason. But I'm sure your answer will just be something related to the market in general that helps you sleep at night if these types of questions like "why now" haunt you. I was just trying to move the conversation along, but obviously my approach of sometimes the simplest answer is the correct one doesn't sit with you. Do me a favor and don't reply to this because I have no interest in reading it or engaging with you. The way I see you interact with boardies comes across more troll-like and provocative than inquisitive.

But if Dark Knight is correct about a couple folks bent on 9.0 ASM#11 (ie, a 9.2 at any price would not have cut it, even a bargain), and in light of the “normal” $3250 the 8.0 went for days ago, shouldn’t we expect the 9.6 to go for a “normal” new high (even if the early Spidey market is trending up)? I ask this b/c, again, I know of no reason why ASM#11 in 9.0 received such a bump NOW (in Aug 2021), particularly absent ASM#3 receiving a bump of similar magnitude. In other words, why does any one feel the $36K for a 9.0 ASM#11 could have been justified on August 1st (to avoid the wrinkle that it happened last night, of course!)? I don’t care either way—I just want to understand what happened.
Seems to me you're not going to accept any explanation as to why this happened. Two well respected boardies offered their thoughts and opinions, and yet you still continue to ask as if the question was skirted somehow. So I'll just reiterate, that ASM #11 has the lowest number of 9.0 copies on the census (reason 1), and that this book being grade 9.0 (a minimum cutoff for high grade completionists - reason 2) finally came available so a bidding war ensued for those looking to finally obtain this book in the minimum grade they've been seeking for so long. I don't think this sale has anything to do with ASM#3, but it has everything to do with this particular book itself. If you're looking for some definitive correlation I don't think you're going to find one.
