Then you owe nothing.
Seems nuts to pay $500 for a book, sell it for $500 and be expected to pay taxes on that. There was no profit.
In theory anyway. However, that could be difficult to prove if you bought it 10 years ago and didn't get/keep any sort of record or receipt.

I didn’t know if it was worth getting it graded missing a staple, but it’s in very good condition even so.
It is still worth getting graded, for sure.

Any bets that this new Tokyo office will also be more about the old boring collectibles stuff and not so much the more new in vogue collectibles like our comic books which we here on the boards love so much.
Pokemon cards perhaps?

A 4.5 is kinda the max grade for a sub crease.
I've seen quite a few CGC 5.5 with a sub crease, but they looked a lot nicer than this X-men 12.

I can’t stand eBay but it’s the only platform I get any traction on. I tried selling on here and get crickets (or ridiculous offers). I belong to a half dozen FB groups and also crickets - plus I’m reluctant to sell high value items there when people use the G&S trick. I was a beta users on short box and have never gotten an offer ever. I recently started trying Instagram but the only way that really works is if you list with a big comic selling page - and pay their consignment fee. It’s a like half of ebay tho so that’s promising but you do have to price aggressively.
What exactly is "the G&S trick"? I assume G&S means goods and services, but what is wrong with that?

Keep in mind the person who just got his AF15 back wasn't "made whole". His money was still stolen, even if he got his book back.

No doubt it's all original and not married. I had a TTA 27 like this but was scared to send it in for grading cuz I thought CGC would give it a Green Label. What do you think? Will they recognize this for what it is.... a production flaw?
I sent in an Amazing Spider-Man #16 that was similar to this and it got a blue label.

This seems to happen more often when I log into the forums on multiple computers over the course of a day or two. Logging into the forums on a 2nd computer seems to invalidate the login on the 1st computer when I later come back to it.

Tax question - capital gains tax on sale of collectible
in Comics General
Posted · Edited by jharvey
Not always. It depends on how long you held the item before resale (long term or short term capital gain), and also what your ordinary income tax rate is. Long-term capital gains on collectibles are taxed at the LOWER of your ordinary income tax rate or 28%.
Here is some more detailed info copied over from a webpage:
Long-term gains from the sale of collectibles can be hit with a capital gains tax as high as 28%. If your ordinary tax rate is lower than 28%, then that rate will apply. But if you're in a higher tax bracket (i.e., 32%, 35% or 37%), then the capital gains tax on your collectible gains is capped at 28%. The 28% limit doesn't apply to short-term capital gains. So, if you don't own a collectible for at least one year before selling it, you'll still be taxed on any gain at your ordinary tax rate (between 10% and 37%).
