shill bidding is not legal in texas...auction houses are allowed to bid on items in their auction (presumably to win), but shill bidding is very much illegal in texas

    from texas admistrative code:

    (d) A licensee may not knowingly use, or permit the use of, false bidders, cappers, or shills at any auction

I think the concern is that the auction house can see what your max bid is, and then they can go in and bid a few dollars under your max bid just to drive up the price.

According to investopedia.com, the tax rate for selling collectibles held for more than a year is 28%.

    https://www.investopedia.com/articles/personal-finance/061715/how-are-collectibles-taxed.asp

Actually, it is only 28% if you are already in a tax bracket that is higher than 28%. If you are in a tax bracket lower than 28%, then the tax rate for your collectible sale will be in your lower tax bracket rate (for example, 15% rate). So you pay the lower of 28% or your marginal ordinary income tax rate.

Just wondering despite the delays and backlogs etc, are CGC prioritising Express packages and walkthrough? I know they’ve just started opening packages from end of April, but if you send in something for Express grading and the box has been marked to state that, would it be opened and graded within the 11 working day turnaround?

Yes, I just sent in some comics in the Express tier with the box marked "EX" on all sides, and they did get opened, pressed, and graded very quickly.

Is the comic age item mandatory for the seller? If not, my fear is that sellers won't use it, rendering my searches incomplete/useless. The nice thing about the gold/silver/bronze/etc categories was that a seller was essentially forced to pick one.

It must not be mandatory, because I had to edit about half of my existing listings to add the "era" to them, since it was missing.

  5. Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #1 is clearly the 1st full appearance of the Beyonder. He appears in energy form, he uses his power to transport many of the Marvel characters away from Earth, he speaks, he destroys a galaxy, he forms a new planet, he even blasts Galactus knocking him unconscious, kicking off one of the best Marvel storylines of the 1980's. It also has the distinction of being a #1 issue.

Secret Wars II was a horrible storyline that was just painful to read, where goofball Beyonder forms a body and walks the Earth to try to better understand humans. No comparison whatsoever.

Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #1 is clearly the comic to own, with a huge potential of blowing up in value if Disney ever makes a Secret Wars movie. And by the way, it is already blowing up in value over the last few months.
