  1. Here is a link to the full episode of the last link that's not region locked. It starts at the 9m35sec mark. https://www.pbs.org/video/orlando-hour-3-pbtird/
  2. I always find these fun. Especially with the low ball appraisals. Last link might not work for some as it is region (US) restricted. https://www.pbs.org/video/antiques-roadshow-appraisal-superman-7-action-31-comic-books/ https://www.pbs.org/video/appraisal-silver-age-comic-collection-ca-1965-on4m2m/
  3. Overstreet Grading Guide is pretty clear. Max would be a 2.5 for a loose or detached centerfold regardless of other issues. I have an ASM 14 that is a 4.5 all day but it has a 1"×1" cut coupon. CGC gave it a 1.0 as that is the highest grade achievable with that defect. Detached centerfolds get the same treatment.
  4. Looks like the "Appearance in Single story page without dialogue, No Cover appearance" have it. Like many posters and my experience has seen the comic book collectors value a character from their first ,however brief appearance, within the story. Talking with a couple other LCS owners/dealers since my first posting of the poll they unequivocally said that unless the character appears in more than few pages they will steer their customers towards a second appearance with a cover or Cover only using the "first full appearance" terminology and price it as such. It's just easier for them to sell the books as a cover is the advertising for the book rather than "wasting time educating" customers on the character. I had hoped a few of the dealers who frequent the board would have chimed in and given a business perspective as well but I think it's pretty standard practice.
  5. This series always had some of the most iconic covers.
  6. This one always stuck with me as an iconic spidey cover. Always remember seeing a version of it in the books for subscriptions I think?
  7. I don't think that Wolverine was more fully formed of a character in 181s introduction than 180. The last page in 180 gives you all the info you need to know about him and what he is about. He then proceeds to demonstrate that in 181. I would say that the true character that we know as Wolverine didn't appear until Claremont and Byrne got ahold of him. The cover is what drives the hype of 181 not Wolverine's characterization. 180 gives you way more info about Wolverine's character than say Bishop's First Appearance in Uncanny X-men 282 who has a cover appearance.
  8. Not really much of a surprise. The reader knew Weapon X was coming.
  9. Was at my local LCS yesterday and spoke with the owner on this topic. From his perspective as a dealer it's easier to sell a book that has both a cover appearance and interior apperance regardless if the character appeared (no matter how much) in another book. He did reference IH 180 and 181. As a fan he knows that Wolverine appeared first in 180 but as a dealer 181s cover makes it so much easier to sell it as the first apperance. He referenced AS 8 as a guide for that. It ,almost begrudgingly, is sold, as it should, as the first appearance of Wonder Women but has no where near the cache of AC 1 or Tec 27 because she doesn't appear on the cover and it hurts sales. Most collectors may prefer Sensation Comics 1 or WW 1 because she is on the cover. It got me thinking more about the influence that dealers have in terms of steering people towards certain books. Any dealers wish to chime in?
  10. My bad. I was going off of memory. Read that book a long time ago.
  11. So far we have votes for: Appearance on Cover and Multiple story pages with dialogue ie. Tec 27, AC 1 etc. (Batman, Superman) Appearance in Single story page with dialogue, No Cover appearance ie. IH 180, JO 134 etc. (Wolverine ,Darkseid) Appearance in Single story page without dialogue, No Cover appearance ie. IF 13 (Sabertooth) Appearance in Multiple story pages without dialogue, No Cover appearance G.I. JOE:ARAH 1 (Snake-Eyes) Interesting results so far. Cheers.
  12. Thank you for your feedback, RMA. It has been nice so far to hear members opinions on this (sometimes polarizing) subject. Hopefully, everyone is taking the time to vote on one of the choices they like or for one they find the least objectionable. Cheers.

  14. It would be great if our hobby thought/worked like that, but it doesn't. So if you had to pick one...?
  15. Spinning out of discussions in other threads about first appearances, I thought it might be fun it to have an unbiased anonymous poll questions to glean some insight into the opinions of the comic collectors here into what constitutes a first appearance of a character. I know there maybe some exceptions to the choices I gave ( ie. Snake-Eyes and others). But hopefully, this way will make for a structured dialogue and the thread won't devolve into a shouting match. Cheers.
  16. I've never been able to figure out how a full first appearance is thought of... What's the difference between this and this. One is considered a first appearance and the other a cameo. Both are one page, both characters speak and both have as much impact on the story being told in the book.
  17. Gold/Silver character crossover goodness. And I just love the fact that the Atom is holding onto Batman and J'onn J'onzz fingers like a two year old.
  18. That's the idea with the FF1 covers. Some of them pay homage to different eras. That's why they had like 30 of them.
