  1. I believe you over estimate the average 30+ year collector. Most of them getting out of school with $150000+ student loans are not going to be out looking for copies of Wonderworld. The GA market right now is being driven by new money looking to park it into a tangible asset. The dusty old guys (of which I am rapidly approaching) are shaking their fists angrily at the cloud cause they're being priced out of the market too. A low grade (1 or 1.5) GA minor key of any publisher starts at 4 figures now. All of the dealers in my area can count on their hands ( in most cases one hand) the number of people they could call who may have the means to purchase any of those books if they get them in and that number decreases as the prices go up. I am lucky I bought the books that I did, when I did cause I can't afford to pay today's prices to aquire them now. I don't like that GA books have morphed into commodities brokering now. I don't like that a comics intrinsic value is tied to the latest MCU release. Comics are cool. And there value should be because they are comics and everything that comes with that. But it's not that way anymore and it makes me sad. So in essence the hobby that many of us grew up with has gone away. It's something else. And I think that is the root of what a lot of us feel.
  2. I think certain segments of the comic market will have a down correction or crash. PCH and GA (GA that does not have its IP owned by a multinational conglomerate that keeps it in the public eye) for one. Outside of the big books (AC1, DC27, CA1 AS8 etc.) that will always be valuable because of their IP, no one other than collectors of a certain older age group care about Fox Comics, Centaurs, EC etc. And they just sell them amongst themselves. Its just a game of musical chairs and eventually it will stop and the prices will crash on those books cause there will be no one left to buy. The other end of the market in moderns is suspect as well because the print runs were so high. ASM 300 jumps to mind. There are probably close to 500 right now on Ebay. It's tulips all over again in the modern market. Manufactured hype. I have 3 in my collection Raw that I bought from my LCS when it came out. I have 2 friends who also bought 3. 2 of mine are 9.8s cause I read one and put the other 2 away. I do think there will be a correction of the silver, bronze, and copper. But not as extreme as the 2 bookends.
  3. The prices may fluctuate but the hobby won't crash or wane. Comics have worth as an IP. They can be and have been translated into other media and products. TV shows, movies, lunchboxes etc. It will always keep the original source material valuable because of this. Lots of Avengers movies, none about an upside down biplane.
  4. That is one of the saddest images I've every seen.🤦‍♂️
  5. This seems to be harder than it looks. As after the Mount Rushmores a lot of the heroes just seem to hang out with other heroes. They don't really have many relationships with normals. Only one that's coming to.mind right now is DD and Foggy Nelson.
  6. I would put JJJ on that Rushmore as he is almost Spideys #1 nemesis. He's even on page 1 of ASM 1.
  7. Hadn't really thought of him as his presence outside of the comics (cartoons, TV Shows, Movies) has diminished to almost non existence in the past 25-30 years. He wasn't a part of the 70s Hulk TV show that most people are still familiar with or the MCU. But Alfred and JJJ are still huge parts of their respective heroes mythos in any medium.
  8. Having a conversation with my buddy about supporting characters who are just people and are not a sidekick and have no powers themselves ( we discounted the Silver age imaginary and one-offs as most Civilian characters always somehow got powers temporarily). We came up with Alfred being #1 followed by J.Jonah Jameson as #2. Any thoughts?
  9. I thought the 17k offer was insulting. Not even 30% of appraisal. I get we all have overhead in business but come on. And then to come back with a lower offer. I would have said thanks for the appraisal, Goodbye. The 30k was much more in line considering they were going to have to do all the work with the books you mentioned anyway if they were consigning them or not. If the books meant nothing to me (which they obviously didn't to Dan) I would have taken the 30k. The one guy with the satchel when he was told to get out looked genuinely POd.😁
  10. Swap Shop Season 1 Episode 6 on Netflix. Swap Shop synopsis: "Swap Shop is a reality series about citizens of Tennessee who listen to a radio show called Swap Shop that informs them of where they can buy scraps for cheap so that they can later turn them into fine pieces of art or functional properties like vehicles, instruments, or sneakers for a pretty impressive profit. Thousands of listeners of the Southern radio show gather from all over the state to get first dibs on these highly sought-after items, but of course, only one can secure the item and become a couple of bucks richer." Anyone seen this episode? Couldn't find a clip on YouTube. Anyone in the same neck of the woods as the store these guys (Richard and Garin from Nirvana Comics) are from? They go out to this guys garage and he's selling his Father in laws collection. Fairly interesting but I was surprised by the really lowball offer for purchasing the collection considering this was filmed in 2021 and I saw some other big books than the ones they highlighted starting with single digit FFs. I get you have to make a profit as I've sold books before but that was really insulting based on the value. Cheers.
  11. For some context this was filmed in 2020.
  12. From the email I received: Hi Friend, This is CLZ Alwin and I am afraid I have some bad news for you today: Our agreement with GoCollect has ended, so in today's updates all GoCollect-related features have been removed: CLZ Comics 6.9 for iOS and Android (now live) Comic Connect (changes now live) Comic Collector 21.7 (coming up later this week) Which means no more automatic comic values when you add comics and no more daily updates for values. We fully understand this is a shock and a disappointment for you all. Trust me, we are very disappointed too, maybe even more so than you are. In any case, we sincerely apologize for this sudden loss of functionality. Please read on below for possible ways to get compensated or refunded. But first, let me give you some more background on what happened: Our agreement with GoCollect, and how it ended In May 2019 we first got in contact with GoCollect (GC). At the time, they did not have an API for 3rd party access at all. So they quickly whipped up a temporary API for us and we came to the agreement that CLZ could use that API for free for 1 year, or at least until they had set up their real paid API and 3rd party data licensing agreement. However, that new API and agreement did not materialize, not in 1 year, not in 2 years. Then in May 2021 GC promised us our new API and agreement would arrive early July 2021, after their new website was launched. Sadly, nothing happened in July... or in August. No new GoCollect website, no new API, no new paid data agreement. Then suddenly, starting Sept 23, the number of daily value updates dropped from a few hundred to just a handful. And obviously, we started to get lots of complaints from you all about not receiving value updates anymore. We of course contacted GoCollect. They were not aware of any problems, but told us the lack of updates was "probably caused by their migration to the new website" and that they would look into it. Then on Oct 5 GC told us to "let our users know that there may be service interruptions over the next several weeks as they migrated to their new platform." On Oct 13 their statement changed to: "The time investment in making the old API work is going to mean a longer lag than us focusing on getting the new site launched and the new API established. The estimated timeline for our new API is approx 2-4 weeks and I look forward to discussing that partnership opportunity with CLZ next week." Finally on Oct 15, GoCollect dropped their bomb with us: They had changed their mind and there was NOT going to be a new paid API for 3rd parties. They told us sorry, but we were welcome to use their upcoming free API when it becomes available... but without any ETA and without any details about what data the free API would contain. So... we had to make a tough decision... ... wait for the free API, with no ETA and the likely chance that it would be too limited anyway... Or bite the bullet and stop working with GoCollect completely. After serious discussions and deliberations, we decided to go for the latter. We decided to remove all GoCollect functionality from our apps and software, resulting in the updates that were released today. Well it looks like GoCollects website update is just screwing everything up. CLZ is still a good App but I may have to start looking elsewhere.
  13. Agreed. Anyone who was bored enough to sit through that want to give a Coles notes version for the rest of us. There's a Like in there for doing it 😁
  14. Those of you who golf know the Masters tournament is starting soon. It got me thinking about what consecutive 3 issue mini run for a character would have the most historical significance for a character. It could be for introductions of characters, storyline, or anything else that would help define the character. Here's my contribution. I'm biased as it's my 3 favorite Spider-Man villains.

  16. Meant no offense to the She-Hulk fans out there. My point is more towards B-list and C-list characters that a couple of years ago no one would have given a second thought to are now being prominently featured at shows and online as having this propped up increased value. The last couple of shows I was at vendors had Savage She-Hulk 1s up on their walls. For me it was a "Oh yeah, She-Hulk. Forgot about her. How much is that VG+? $70!!! For She-Hulk. Really." I was just using that as an example of overinflated worth based upon what? May or may not be made into movie or series one day? It's still She- Hulk. And I like She-Hulk, just don't think she's worth 70 bucks in VG+.
  17. As soon as the movie is announced the first app. of Shaft and Badrock will skyrocket in price. Doesn't matter how crappy a character or concept is now, as long as they have a series or movie to drive the spec. Get on the train now. 😁
  18. Name 1 book you look at now and go WTF is that up on the wall for and why is it that much money and 1 book you think you'll be saying the same about in 5 years? Now: She-Hulk 1 5 Years: Youngblood 1
  19. DC shipped 60 books this month. https://www.dccomics.com/comics
  20. I come with the comics, sweetheart.😁
  21. The Top 3 all have deals with other apps or have their own (Comixology, Marvel Unlimited, etc.) Maybe Diamond has the pull to get all the publishers to eventually agree to one platform, one app. I still don't think publishers care about the overall health of the industry. Just their piece of the pie. So maybe not.🙁
  22. Very Interesting. I think this will definitely take some pressure off of the shops to order everything and be more streamlined to their customers tastes. As someone who reads new comics exclusively digital it does give me incentive to order a hard copy. https://www.diamondcomics.com/Home/1/1/3/736?articleID=106049
  23. Interesting article. Sums up nicely the current state of signed books. Some new info and old. https://www.newsarama.com/44090-who-signs-what-and-why.html
