Are those scuff marks on the cover of the slab ?  If they are ..it seems like a lot of them....is this unusual ?  I don't recall seeing any scuff marks on any of the slabs I have got back from CGC.....Even though it's a small amount I have slabbed.

No, there are no scuffs. Not sure why that showed up that way in the pic.

I agree, that is a very nice book.

And I think you have highlighted all the specific defects I saw as well.  The only other consideration, and it is tough to tell without having the book in hand, but it seems the front cover might be a bit faded.  Nonetheless, even with the accumulation of minor defects I could see this grade as a 6.0 (Fine) or 6.5 (Fine +) or even higher.  To the original poster, if you do submit it, please let us know what it comes back as, thanks.

I definitely will post the results. Being new to sending golden age books in, I’m not really sure about having having it cleaned and pressed.

    I definitely will.

Based on the back cover scan, it doesnt look like a lot of dry cleaning is involved. It would have to be done very carefully but the book could be pressed, and the spine could be improved upon greatly.

Thanks. I was planning on having CGC doing it. I will be sending my Sensation comics #47 in too. Here are the pics.

You'd be just as well off storing it in mylar and double boarding the comic book. Chances of damage from shipping to and from CGC and what can happen through handling at CGC are something to consider. ( I just had a package with 2 slabs sent to CGC for a 2nd Mechanical Error fix be refused by CGC because of package damage by UPS). I know that some collectors like their collection all slabbed up but it's not really much better protection if you know how to properly store your books.

The Joey is @joeypost and he is a highly respected presser on this board who, I'm sure, will share his expert opinion.

I think you are right. Think I will just bag/board and put in a top loader to display. Thank you for your input.

Nice book. Thanks for the pics. I'm concerned about the water stains keeping the grade down, even with a clean and press. Also, the cover looks like it's holding on to those staples by a hair, meaning a press might cause more damage. Some with more experience with grading a book in this condition, I'm sure, will weigh in.

Thanks. I am not too worried about the grade, but I do want to get it slabbed just so I don’t have to worry about it.

I don't see any potential grade bump with a clean and press for this book. And since you mentioned it has a loose cover, I wouldn't risk it.

If you plan to display the book, make sure there is no sunlight (direct or indirect) or fluorescent lighting as it will fade the reds and yellows on the cover.

Thanks. I will be displaying it in a room the stays dark when I am not in it and only has an overhead non-fluorescent light on the ceiling.

A properly-sized Mylar sleeve with acid-free backing board has always worked for me.  (thumbsu  There are several sources of archival-quality document storage boxes (Hollinger, Lineco, etc) for any books or other ephemera you feel need additional protection.  :foryou:

I plan on displaying this book. Do you know if they make top loaders that will fit golden age books?
