Two early issues came up on these boards for sale a number of years back. I was thinking the price was a bit steep but @Yellow Kid Rich Olson convinced me they were a good buy. I sure miss Rich's advice. Here they are.

Those are nice looking copies. Pardon my ignorance but did something happen to Rich? I never met him personally but we had talked a little through the boards.

Recently acquired from MCS, perhaps from one of you fine folk.  Cover detached.  As a new collector of GA, I'm continually amazed at how vibrant the colors can remain after 80 years.

Great book! I know what you mean. Its a special moment when you find that book, maybe low grade, that still has cover gloss, great cover inks, and maybe, white pages!:luhv:

I don't think MyComicShop should be able to walk away lightly from an error this egregious since it involved monumental carelessness on their part. Where were their management/accounting controls? Why did they not have procedures in place to prevent foul-ups of this magnitude? And this wasn't some run-of-the-mill sale. This was big time. I think they richly deserve to get their knuckles rapped.

I'm seeing a real black eye for MyComicShop. If you know the owners, you should suggest that they explain themselves right here in this thread.

No, I'll assume you're being facetious. I think 5 or 10% of actual cost offered as store credit is more in keeping with an error of this magnitude, but you're certainly entitled to another opinion (hopefully you weren't serious). The only real failure of MyComicShop is cashing his check before confirmation of prior sold inventory. My suggestion as a reasonable counter offer is based on the dealer having connections and outreach most collectors don't have and such a good faith gesture would go a long way toward making the customer whole given the level of disappointment associated with snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Of course mileage varies and being a personal fan of MyComicShop's owners I'm just trying to look at this situation from a totally unbiased perspective. :foryou:

The thing that really burns is that I missed out on a few other fairly big books because they were holding my money. These are books that may not surface again in a nice grade for some time. But, ehh, there are other books I want and eventually any bad feelings I have will slide like honey off a badger's butt. Seriously, I do not want them tarred and feathered or pilloried in the town square. I even understand why they could not offer to find a comparable copy. USA Comics #10 is not a particularly rare Timely, 50 or so graded copies right now, but that is still only 50 copies with only 20 or so comparable to 7.0. No one is getting sued as I was made more than whole and would have no standing even if I was of a mind to sue. Finally, I also have not done a massive amount of business with MyComicShop nor am I some massive whale potential client. They have little incentive to do more than they already have.

I would be happy if they have changed their procedures so that this cannot happen to someone else. :peace:

    Would a flogging be sufficient?

With a wet noodle? Possibly. (shrug) Mistakes happen but on a $10k purchase they hurt a little more than others. Ya know? Especially when they sent me an email a week after I sent payment saying they were depositing the check and it would take a month to clear. They sent that email AFTER they had sold the book. That is quite a bit of money to tie up for a month and then just shrug and move on. Hopefully they updated their processes to confirm inventory before cashing a check. If not for every purchase then at least those over, say, $2500.
