  1. It is odd that Chuck never said, "There was one stand out Duck book!" but maybe he just forgot through the decades? FC 386 was a big book in the 70s and 80s as I remember it. Not all Church books from the 50s have the coding on the cover. I do not know if they have the check marks or whatever inside the book though.
  2. It is strange that it has been hiding out all this time. Where did it come from and why Hakes? I'm betting it was Geppi's myself which explains the Hakes connection. There was a thread on the boards a few years ago about a FC #12 Church copy which got a little excitement and speculation. Still a FC #12 is no where near the league of this one. Tomorrow I will probably be kicking myself for not bidding more when I see it listed somewhere for 15k.
  3. The problem is that there are almost no known Church Duck books. If you collect Duck and you want a pedigree of 386 this is THE one to have in my opinion. I went to slightly above 9k but drew the line there.
  4. So, um, anybody get the Mile High copy of Four Color #386? I was the underbidder but just could not come up with more funds. https://hakes.com/Auction/ItemDetail/224078/FOUR-COLOR-386-MARCH-1952-CGC-90-VFNM-UNCLE-SCROOGE-DONALD-DUCK-MILE-HIGH-PEDIGREE

  6. I've been waiting to post this here until it was in hand. Last book I needed for my All Select Comics run.
  7. Cool book! Great girl commandos story at the end. I'd never even heard of the girl commandos!
  8. Very sad to hear about this and it does happen. I have a book that graded unrestored (not CGC) but came back with a purple label and a notation that the cover had been reinforced. Broke my heart. I wish you the best of luck in getting some kind of compensation for this!
  9. "Ickus Spikus Lickus" If you can't crack a smile at that then you are humorous deficientous!
  10. Oddly enough this is the first copy of this book I have ever owned.
  11. Picked up a couple of Four Color Ducks today. Not the highest grades but I tend to channel Scrooge when I buy Duck books. Its almost more about the deal than the grade.
  12. Picked up a couple of Four Color issues today. Not high grade but I tend to channel scrooge when I buy Duck books. Its more about the deal than about the grade to a certain extent.
  13. Unless you are made of money lightly restored Golden Age Timelys can be a bargain and well worth the cost. I draw the line at anything over slight and color touch I tend to avoid but seriously, glue? I do not get the difference between a drop of glue and tape for tear sealing other than the tape looks far worse. I'll take a restored book that only has glue over one, marked not restored, that has tape everyday and twice on Sunday. Great books and congratulations!
  14. Same here. I've had things disappear from my cart because I took to long. C'est la vie !
  15. I remember looking at an Overstreet around 1977 or 1978 and there was a dealer article in it which compared the prices of Howard the Duck #1, Amazing Spider-Man #1, and Conan #1. The guys conclusion was that Howard the Duck #1 was THE book to own if you were a serious investor. It would soon be worth more than ASM #1 and would skyrocket because the writing and art was just that GOOD! He compared it to Windsor-Smith in Conan. Windsor-Smith to Howard the Duck. The Hype for Howard was unbelievable even to a wee Cub Scout. I was ~11 years old and walked away from Overstreet for 3 years because of that article.
