  1. Rosa's Uncle Scrooge is excellent! He is the reason I started collecting Scrooge books back in the 80s.
  2. Enjoy the Barks Crack! ( that doesn't sound right; too street for Barks. Barks Pop? Barks Chocolate? mmm, Barks chocolate.)
  3. Picked this up. 8 books away from a complete run now!
  4. On key books, and/or high grade, I always figure in the cost of slabbing when buying raw. There is also a "what if I miss restoration" penalty. I trust some dealers more than others on raw so the penalty can be $0 in some cases. Bottom line, I am more generous if already in a CGC case. Less generous if in raw or in a Voldemort case. And it has to be an absolute bargain before I would risk any other option.
  5. Got this in the current Comiclink auction. PQ isn't all that but presentation is great!
  6. Tec 73 if you are keeping it in a slab. WF 3 if raw and the first appearance is what really appeals to you.
  7. Thanks for the con update, Robot Man! I am going to do my best to go next year!
  8. For Donald Duck, "Trick or Treat" in Donald Duck #26 is a favorite of mine and my wife's. For Uncle Scrooge, "North of the Yukon" from Uncle Scrooge #59 made me happy when I was young and still almost makes me shed a tear for Barko.
  9. You are, of course, correct. I should have said, "Not all Church books from the 50s..." I've corrected my original statement.
  10. It is odd that Chuck never said, "There was one stand out Duck book!" but maybe he just forgot through the decades? FC 386 was a big book in the 70s and 80s as I remember it. Not all Church books from the 50s have the coding on the cover. I do not know if they have the check marks or whatever inside the book though.
  11. It is strange that it has been hiding out all this time. Where did it come from and why Hakes? I'm betting it was Geppi's myself which explains the Hakes connection. There was a thread on the boards a few years ago about a FC #12 Church copy which got a little excitement and speculation. Still a FC #12 is no where near the league of this one. Tomorrow I will probably be kicking myself for not bidding more when I see it listed somewhere for 15k.
  12. The problem is that there are almost no known Church Duck books. If you collect Duck and you want a pedigree of 386 this is THE one to have in my opinion. I went to slightly above 9k but drew the line there.
  13. So, um, anybody get the Mile High copy of Four Color #386? I was the underbidder but just could not come up with more funds. https://hakes.com/Auction/ItemDetail/224078/FOUR-COLOR-386-MARCH-1952-CGC-90-VFNM-UNCLE-SCROOGE-DONALD-DUCK-MILE-HIGH-PEDIGREE

  15. I've been waiting to post this here until it was in hand. Last book I needed for my All Select Comics run.
  16. Cool book! Great girl commandos story at the end. I'd never even heard of the girl commandos!
  17. Very sad to hear about this and it does happen. I have a book that graded unrestored (not CGC) but came back with a purple label and a notation that the cover had been reinforced. Broke my heart. I wish you the best of luck in getting some kind of compensation for this!
