  1. Thank you! When I scroll the net, the first meeting seems always to be referenced with July 25, 1961. So the notation of the date (with different pencil, for that matter) in the bound volume as of "June 1960" remains a mystery.
  2. Thank you, I suspected that it was documented somewhere. Can you advise in which fanzine or antology the first time meeting was reported first, please?
  3. Same here. I went in with $845 ($1.014 with BP) and was high bidder for one day or so before live bidding. Was shocked about final hammer, too. I saw that connection, too. It's just not that close. The letter from which Willits learned Barks' name dates November 1957 (see HA archives). Inscription by Barks in bound volume dates June 1960. Absolutely awesome, nonetheless. Interesting to note that this same item went for $956 at HA on Nov. 23, 2013. The item description back then did not mention the OO's name (Willits) and did not include a pic of the spine: https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/dell-giant-comics-christmas-parade-and-vacation-parade-bound-volume-signed-by-carl-barks-dell-1949-51-/a/7084-93416.s?ic4=ListView-Thumbnail-071515 Must have been a nice surprise for the knowlegdable buyer.
  4. My only US golden age purchase in 2020. A cracked-out slightly restored grade, purchased from a boardie. Although I very carefully read every page and every word from the book - except the BC ads - I don't want to call it a "reader copy"
  5. Celebrating the News ... Blizzard Tonight + Heat Wave Due on newsstand posters from Germany from 1957 and 1955
  6. Wow, congrats! To think of finding such a rare piece!! For reference, I saved the pic with "some guy's comic book room" without the watermarking ...
  7. True, but not the "real thing". I'd rather stay with the books and a print then. Here was just hope, I think, that someone who spoke to him lately could share some news about future plans. If I ever attend Lake Como Art Festival in Italy I'll try to ask him personally for the reasons NOT to part with a few pages.
  8. Hi Liberty Meadows fan from Europe here. Any odds that he's going to break up only one issue of the series and give the OA to the collectors? Must be the funniest strip I ever read (about 25 yrs ago).
  9. Hi @romitaman That's Gwendal Lemercier, a page from "Durandal" #1 https://www.bedetheque.com/BD-Durandal-Tome-1-La-marche-de-Bretagne-112264.html Didn't read it but found out quickly
  10. I'm seeking additional pages by Daan Jippes from the story "Donald Duck's Atom Bomb" (Barks 1946/recreation by Jippes 1975). There are 8 pages altogether, I have page 7 (panel from that page). There's page 3 on CAF.com. I look especially for page 1.
  11. Yes, you did. In fact, I think your writing is better. (But his was not for a book, but for a website blog, of course.) I admire both reports and I read everything I can find about such great stories! Thx
  12. I collect in a very selective way, rather looking for personal representative examples, so Pickie comes from picky. I also love to be on quests for locating comic book rarities (in Europe, that is), so I like the idea of my username being an acronym as well (Private Investigations on Comic Keys by International Experts), it's fun.
  13. This is, in other words, the definition of the Gerber Scarcity Index No. "11" ("Non-existent, but kown to have been printed."). From "The Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books" (Golden Age), Vol. 1, p. A-10; see his further comment: The Guide is from 1989 (copyright date). I don't know if there's been a No. 11 assignment ever since. Great topic!
  14. I'd be happy to know Bangzoom's real name in the first place so I'd be able to find his posts on facebook. I haven't been able to follow his statements ever since he stopped posting here on the boards. I've been meaning for a while to flesh out this dilemma privately to someone in the know (which I haven't done). Well, now it happend here.
  15. Favorite prelim, passing by several times a day.
  16. T That's nice. Any more info about that statue?
  17. Thank you, yes, seems a mystery (somebody claims to having read an adaption as a youngster, albeit not necessarily originating from the USA).
  18. Can somebody advise, please: Is there a comic book adaption of John Ford's 1948 "3 Godfathers" (John Wayne)? Any help would be much appreciated. Apparently, there's nothing to be found on the internet, not even in the "Grand Comics Database".
  19. You can find quite a few pics (Mignola, Kelly Jones, Frank Cho, Arthur Adams, etc.) in this German thread starting with post #513 (click on the links). https://www.comicforum.de/showthread.php?143034-Original-Comic-Seiten-wer-sammelt&p=5532709&viewfull=1#post5532709 Examples: I didn't attend, but it sounds like it was great. They had immediate access to the artists.
  20. Better pics ... https://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=494000
  21. "Buy the book, not the label." I'd love to see the complete cover (bc & spine). I take it that the complete cover is one piece? So here's the ONLY "printing proof" cover known to exist?? Fascinating! Thankfully it hasn't "SEP" on it!
