Well there is a bit of a language barrier With him being from Italy but he gives me the price upfront.  The price usually includes the book, art and shipping.  I’m not mailing him the book.  I once mailed a book to Tom Grummett in Canada and it took over a month. Not his fault but frustrating

I'm not saying I know exactly what's happening here... but if I want a sketch on a particular blank book, especially someone in a different country, I almost NEVER expect them to provide the book.  Add on top of the fact that Europe and Asia don't get a lot of the blank covers we get here in North America, mailing something to the artist is a totally fair request by the artist.  Also, having to wait "a month" for mailing to a foreign country isn't something people should complain about.  It's customs, postal efficiency, and a myriad of other things that can delay a package.  A month is definitely a little long, but I've seen too many collectors lately state that "artists should be able to turn out their commissions in 2-3 weeks" like artists only take one commission at a time.  1-2 months for lesser known artists, 3-6 months is ore typical, 6-12 months for bigger name artists, and 2-3 years for "the legends" sorta speak.  I'm sure A-donis and some of the more seasoned vets can attest to how long some commissions may take.  Anyhow... I'm probably breaking a rule by posting this.  So I should probably stop here.  I'll probably wake up and delete this.

  2. It’s on a drum head... no one knows why... There are 3 other comic creators who's signatures I RECOGNIZE ALREADY on that same drum head... They don’t seem to be related, so I’m just trying to find someone who recognizes the one unknown signature?

I was thinking there was a form for the artist/writer to fill out, basically an affidavit that they did, in fact, sign the book in question...?

Yes... THERE IS A FORM YOU HAVE TO SEND WITH THE BOOKS!!!

Have CGC email you a copy of the "Signature Series Creator Agreement"
You can fill out some of the information yourself, but the creator has to fill in some information too (date, contact info, etc.)
That form MUST accompany the books through the process and CGC must receive it WITH THE BOOKS.
CGC will contact the creator and verify the authenticity that way and allow the books to receive SigSeries (Yellow) Labels.
They update the form from time to time so make sure you ask for the latest version.

I would also recommend Sending a pre-filled SigSeries form if you can get one from your LCS or CGC as well as a pre-printed shipping label and envelope/mailer for the creator to forward the books on to CGC.
The form will help make sure it gets charged to the right account and ensure you can watch the status of the submission as it progresses.
The pre-printed shipping label will make it easy for the creator to package everything up and drop the items off at the post office.
The books must arrive directly from the creator so making it as painless as possible for them is ideal.

The creator can NOT send the books back to you prior to shipping them on to CGC!!!

Even if you don't open the package and just relabel it.  It has to come from the creators address.
CGC will check the return address and routing/tracking information to verify that the package arrived from the creators address, not yours.
I ran into a small problem once because I live near Kevin Eastman who signed some books at his house for me and were sent in for grading afterwards.
CGC saw the identical Zip Code and gave us both a call to verify details.  That was years ago.  Fun times.

    Good luck!

Mail call. Sketch by the great Joe Rubinstein . Sending off to CGC.

Wait... you got the book in the mail and NOW you're going to send it to CGC?!?  Just a heads up, that's not how Sig Series works.
Prepare for a Green Label with "Sketch and Name Written on Cover in Marker" or something to that nature.

    Just to clarify:

You entrusted your property to a company.

You paid a company your money for a service.

    The company took your money.

    The company provided a service.

Upon receipt of that service, you were ultimately not satisfied with the service provided which you paid for.

Yet instead of contacting that company immediately (via email, phone, social media) about your dissatisfaction....

You then ran a google search, found CGC boards.

You then created an account on a message board.

You then created a whole new thread, and posed a question to internet strangers.

I would say, the first thing you should to is contact the company to whom you entrusted your collectibles and paid money and have a complaint with, AND TRY TO WORK IT OUT WITH THEM.  They have paid customer service employees who can explain more about their services and potential resolutions for issues.  Any answer given here would ultimately lead back to contacting CGC anyways....

I'm sorry if this answer came off as condescending and I do hope you get your issue resolved but hopefully any other person with an issue who might read this CONTACTS CGC WITH THEIR ISSUE FIRST.

So, instead of replying with, "you should contact customer service, the phone number is on their website" ... you wrote all of that?
Must be nice to not have anything better to do than comment shame a new boardie.
You're normally a really insightful person with your comments, it's a shame to see you being a flat-out bully here.
It only "came off as condescending" because IT IS condescending.
If you don't have anything nice to say, just click the back button and find a new thread that you can be helpful on, maybe.

... and if you were paying any attention you would have noticed he joined the boards OVER A YEAR AGO.
    (tsk)

  6. I know this post is old, but had to throw my two cents in since someone redirected it the other day.

All this signatures look legit to me. His signature varied quite a bit in the later years. Gotta remember the man was half blind and 90+ years old. If a fan asked him to sign in a tight spot like that it could have a pretty big variance in layout as Stan tried to fit it in.

    The COA is legit too.

  7. Friend picked up an interesting sketch on the cheap at a local show.  None of us (and the seller) recognize the signature. Anyone know who this is?

Another friend said Warren Louw, but that’s not right. Similar signature style, but not the correct letters at all.

    Any help?

That is awesome brother. Why did it take so long?

The universe conspired against me so many ways.  Lost mail, deadline delays, done on the wrong paper, redone on the wrong book, and submitted on the wrong account.  So many miscommunications and just bad luck along the process.  99.9% of my stuff gets done flawlessly by managers, handlers and facilitators, no body has perfect luck their entire collecting career though.  This was my turn to get the beatdown.

Point taken... I'm just not familiar with his reasoning.  Does he think he's to good of an artist to be bothered with it?  Is he opposed to slabbing comics?  I'm wondering if anybody's asked him recently to reconsider his position.  If I'm not mistaken, there have been other creators in the past who weren't keen on CGC signings but warmed up to it later.hm

I was told a couple years ago that "he doesn't think that comics are 'real' art"  ... so, if true, the "too good for comic fans" theory is pretty spot on.  I'm surprised because he works as a professor at SVA in NYC with Klaus Janson.  I wonder if he sees Klaus bringing in a bunch of extra side money and is starting to re-think his decision to avoid conventions.

I never offer sketch ops----they're a pain.  Huge pain.

HOWEVER----I picked up a handful of the DETECTIVE #1000 sketch cover blanks, and Graham Nolan is at Rhode Island this weekend.  He doesn't do many shows, but if there's interest in sketches on these blanks by Nolan, LMK and what your budget is.  I know his full figure vs bust vs pencils vs inks are all subjective.

    I've got THREE (3) spots.

I'm highly interested in one too!!!!!!  I never see him at shows I attend.  Really need something from him (Bane) for my collection!!!!  I'll start looking up examples so see what your'e taking about.  PM me the prices, @Rich_Henn ? ?
