Some new pickups.

Ok that makes sense. I just sent in another copy of issue 1 and a copy of issue 2 I came across. Both extremely cherry. Keeping my fingers crossed, but I think I have a shot at a 9.8 with atleast one. I’d actually prefer it be issue 2 so I have 9.8‘s of issue 1 and 2. 😁

Does anyone know why issue 2 has the census numbers it does? Roughly just 10% the amount of graded copies to issue 1, and considerably fewer 9.8’s as well. Which makes sense of course considering the fact there’s soo many fewer copies graded. A 9.8 just sold for $2350 on eBay. Pretty impressive sale.

Aww so the $7500 was the outlier. Yeah think I’ll just wait then, maybe for the next Alien movie to come out, assuming that even has any affect anymore

Was thinking of letting my Aliens 1 9.8 go, but a copy just sold for a little over $3K on eBay. Seems like a pretty weak sale considering one sold for $7500 in an April Heritage auction. Was this $3K sale an outlier, or has the book just gone down that much in the span of several months? Two 9.8’s have been sitting on eBay for just under $5K for a little while also, so that’s probably not helping. Anyway, think I’ll hold off. See if it creeps back up.

I was thinking that at first, but I don’t know. That looks considerably faded to be a scanner thing. I mean definitely possible, but if that’s the case auction house took a horrible photo lol.

I don’t think the book “looks better” as the YouTuber implies. Sure the slight shadow is gone, but the colors on the cover are considerably faded from the 9.2 to 8.5, most especially in the Superman logo. I don’t blame someone for taking a shot like they did though. I mean sometimes you take a shot, just didn’t pan out.

Will be interesting to see what happens when it comes back from CGC. That’s nuts if it’s truly real, and if so I guess sometimes too good to be true isn’t. Huge congrats to the owner if it comes back legit that’s for sure! I still personally would never have taken a $2K gamble, forget about the second sale for $12K. But I guess anything is possible.

Well apparently it’s been confirmed not to be the Famous First Edition. But I still agree with you and assume it’s simply a replica, repro cover made to look old and original. I’d probably take a chance on it for $100 or less, but too much of a risk otherwise. Although no matter what it would sell for, if it’s less than like $30K and not from a legit auction house I’d just assume it’s a fraud. However with eBay buyer protection I guess buyer is covered, but still a scary endeavor.

Off to the graders for a clean/press and grade. Will let you all know 👍.

Super nice set of upper mid to high grade Superman’s in the next featured auction, and they were all entered at roughly the same time. I just always assume that’s maybe someone’s registry set when that happens, but no mention of it.

Only thing I would think is he cancelled the original auction and then immediately found a seller for $10K more. It’s shady as hell lol. Only justification I would think for that is someone messaged him that he sold it too cheap, and decided to relist. I mean who’s going to take him seriously after it being relisted though haha.

I just don’t believe it’s an original, but who knows 🤷. The bottom left corner just looks soo familiar to me. Really reminds me of the fake repro cover that once again was being pitched as real years ago.
