  1. Evening Rakehell. A quick search shows that this went for only $51 on the 12th of July this year. Someone got a bargain I reckon (it wasn't you perchance?). If I'd seen this I would have had a pop even with the quoted $14.25 int postage it's a steal. Marwood has shown us examples in the past of this no price phenemenon but I cannot recall if he showed us the T&P indicia.
  2. I too watched both those auctions and when the first one went for £2600 I expected the second to hit £3500 ish, As Marwood says EBay is a bit of a lottery these days since they "improved" things. Still, both issues were far too expensive for my meagre pocket. One can only dream about winning the actual lottery.
  3. Some of these back page ads are so funny. Learn to be a nurse in only 10 weeks. From home. And the asking price of £35 + pp is more than the Fine (6.0) guide price of $39. For a comic that's Fair!
  4. And it's not in the GCD either (but you already knew that).
  5. Steve have you tried a reverse search in Google images to see if anything matches?
  6. Well if the other went for £2661 this surely has to go higher than that? The seller told me that he had 2,3 and 4 waiting to be listed.
  7. The X-Men was advertised as VG and sold for guide. I didn't think it was VG But no doubt it will be sent off for a clean and press and re-advertised for a much higher sum. Coincidentally another pence no 1 has just been put up on ebay UK which looks to be in a better condition. The seller is toffeemad and the item number is 133127965372 (I'm sorry but I don't know how to put links into these posts).
  8. Fun photos Steve. That Dell "King of Kings" looked nice. I've never seen a 1/- variant before. The tatty Daredevil? Meh!
  9. Well, said tome arrived this lunchtime and I've spent all afternoon reading. Is it me or is the typeface getting smaller? My poor old les yeux are shrivelled and bleeding! It's also getting a bit too large for easy handling IMO, my poor old thumbs are worn out.
  10. I've been watching this and the seller's other offerings and I am consumed with envy but it is well out of my range. I would say it's in the 3.0-3.5 range grade wise so is probably at the top end of guide at the moment on £1850. But with over 4 days to go I reckon there's still some prospective bidders waitng until nearer the end. For a Pence Variant to go over guide is a pretty exciting scenario.
  11. I went to school with a George Clegg and the nickname round these parts for anyone with that moniker was "Peggy". It didn't matter if he was a 6'4" 20st rugby player. Nobody batted an eyelid.
  12. It's Yorkshire for (amongst other things) foodstuffs that cling to the roof of one's mouth making one thirsty.
  13. Mmmm. Cheese and Onion crisps with Philly soft cheese with chives as a dip.
  14. These arrived today. They are lower grade but all sound inside except for browning to edges. No internal cut-outs, writing, tears or folds etc. This was a private "classified" purchase and as I think that they are all hovering around 3.0-3.5 that both parties got a fair deal at £10 ea +pp. (Phew, I had to unplug the fan to connect my scanner and it ain't half 'ot in 'ere now. Soon be time for a refreshing snifter). Any opinions at all greatly accepted. EDIT. There should be five comics (29,30,32,33,34) so I don't know what went wrong there. I'm b*ggered if I'm unplugging the fan again.
  15. Here are three recent acquisitions (yes I know I said that I was thinning out my collection so the family wouldn't be saddled with these but I can't stop buying the dashed things!). These are all decent looking books and will be going in my box to be sent off for grading and slabbing (soon). I know what grades I think they are and paid just over 50% guide for them. What do you think?
  16. "Three Patricks" ? "AUS expert" ? "...just as I leave!" ? Enigmatic he is! Anyway apropos this post I've just ordered Overstreet 49 (£20.87 post free from Wordery) and look forward to reading the whole piece.
  17. That is quite remarkable although I am not too erudite in this area. Is the the first ever pence "variant" "?" (Oct 1946 according to the GCD which does not have an image of it)?
  18. Thanks Steve. It's good to see that you're back.
  19. I must confess that I had the same suspicions. I too hope that there is nothing serious going on. Steve has done some quite magnificent work and it would be a shame were he not to publish it somewhere in some form.
  20. I hope the mods don't mind this post as it constitutes news for all concerned in the hobby. The Fedex man arrived this morning with my latest parcel. Note the "10d UK Price Variant" on the labels. The issue at the bottom shows the old label.
  21. Good lord, I've just realised that I remember The Seekers' 1965 version. What an old crusty I am.
