Resto removal candidate I’m guessing. But the notes said interior pages (16) had been trimmed. So who knows   But a non reversal restored supe1 is 50-60k

You paid for the notes and the notes said 16 pages had been trimmed?  Why wasn't that noted on the label?  Because 144K makes sense based on the notes on the label because everything is removable but nowhere is the pages being trimmed noted so bidders likely bid based on the label notes and will probably be in for quite a surprise (unfortunately).

Just under $19k. I was underbidder. Great price. I should have went higher.

The tape all along the spine was the reason it sold cheap.  This book is notorious in lower grades for having condition issues and all of the recent lower graded copies have had some issue - writing on the cover, tape all along the spine, archival tape...even the 3.0 coming up in CL has Lt. Tan pages and heavy tanning.

I think a really sharp 2.0 would sell for high 20s similar to an AF #15 without chipping selling for a premium over one with chipping.

If SDCC isn’t happening how many dealers would be at Torpedoes show anyway. A lot of them hit it as a matter of doing the SD show. I don’t believe even small shows like that will happen though. This is not a short term kind of thing and Newsom has been taking a pretty good lead in making sure his state was the first to lock down. I don’t see him getting relaxed by July.

Um, the same number that make it to Terry's show?  Except there were more vendors at Torpedo last year and I very much believe there will be a lot of pent of desire for folks to go to a con by then.  I know if that con happens, I'll be there.  But if it doesn't, I'd completely understand.  There's always next year (hopefully).

  4. No matter how quickly this gets better, there is no world in which the Governor of CA allows 100K people to gather by July.  However, the Torpedo show scheduled the week before in LA has not been cancelled yet and I'd say that's still a 50/50 chance on happening.  Time will tell...No matter how quickly this gets better, there is no world in which the Governor of CA allows 100K people to gather by July.  However, the Torpedo show scheduled the week before in LA has not been cancelled yet and I'd say that's still a 50/50 chance on happening.  Time will tell...

That’s the copy that was posted on IG a week ago. The new owner seemed happy to newly acquire it. I guess it’s for sale already?

I was about to post the same thing.  I was impressed that he sourced this copy from the wild as I don't recall seeing it since it sold on Heritage many years ago.  I assume either he got an even sweeter deal on it and is hoping for a quick flip or he spent more than he should've spent and is trying to get his money out.

  6. I know some recent private sales on some of these books in other grades and I'm sorry for the buyers.  I'm certainly not celebrating these prices.  But then the Action #23 CGC 8.5 sold very strong and thats a unique grade to come to market on that book.  It does seem like theres a bit of fatigue on the GA mega keys that have come up quite a bit recently - Cap #1, Batman #1, Superman #1

Yea, the Bat 1 did take a bath.  Didn't think it at all that it sold for a good price.  But if I was a buyer for a copy, I wouldn't have gone much higher at all due to like I said the colors on the book.  Give me this copy all day:

    Bat 1

Ok but we both know that that 4.0 doesn't actually look like that in hand either.  I'm sure if you put both copies side by side that there wouldn't be that much of a difference.

Yep, lackluster performances for both books.  Bat 1 didn't have good color on it, probably why it sold for cheap.  AS #8, well as I've said before was due for a price correction and wasn't surprised by the sale price.  So many copies out there to choose from.

Cmon, the Bat #1 took a bath and there's no amount of excuses you can make around it.  Sure if your argument on a soft FF #1 7.0 at 26K is that it had an awful Stan Lee sig on top sure but this was a nice 4.0 with ow/w pages.  You would've had 10 buyers lined up at that price throwing that money at you a year ago.

  9. Because of this thread, I couldn't pass up on Snake Eyes (its for my son :blahblah:) and I even "convinced" one of my buddies to buy one ("for his son") as well.  We both conceded that the weapons rack sealed the deal for us.  Agreed that $50 all in was steep, but it is a one time buy for sure (along with The Mandalorian and any other figures that can't be missed).

No pressing Issues with a 3d item either.    I have no issue saying there is far less condition manipulation possible with older sealed games than with comics.    Really the only thing that can be done along those lines is lightly dryclean the wrap without scratching it.

Uh, except for the fact that people can and do press the manuals.  Additionally its common practice with opened games to find the best "pieces" and combine them to create the best graded complete opened game package (cart, manuals, box) for the highest grade.  This is called 'marrying' in comics but in games its completely acceptable and not identified on any labels (which is understandable, but you're still buying a 'married' game).

Not sure if this is the wrong place since it is a Heritage thread and Heritage are auctioning off these games in this current auction here.  (shrug)

Maybe these dealers are just ahead of the curve relative to the collectors in terms of the gaming market here.  Reminds me a bit about the first time I went down to a SD Con at the turn of the 90's and saw all of the old long term comic collectors like Geppi, Hamilton, and the likes all sitting around flipping OA pages to each other when they were going for relative peanuts.  Clearly a time when collectors were still not really into them, but just take a look at the OA market nowadays.  hm

As someone who has been ingrained in the OA hobby (and its history) for the last 15 years, I would say that the video game market does not resemble the origins of the OA hobby/market at all.

  12. Given that this is the Heritage thread, I think this is the wrong place for this debate.  Could we move it somewhere else?  I have dabbled in graded games as well but have similar reservations as everyone else.  I think my overarching main concern is that it appears that the dealers are driving this market far more than the actual collectors.  Many major dealers seem to be getting involved/invested and are selling games but I hear little to no interest from actual collectors other than the cacophony of the same 5+ people on the Facebook Private Groups.  Comic books and other hobbies developed from enormous fandom that generated the market for dealers; here it appears that the dealers are generating the market for collectors who grew up (and still are) playing the games, but as a whole, don't care about the graded games at all.  I think a lot of people are sitting on the sidelines and think its a house of cards and given that most of the people promoting the market are the same people selling or have sold the games, reinforces these conclusions.
