I just took the back cover to the bank so I thought I'd snap a few photos and share.  The outer wrap of the inner pages is not perfect but the rest of the inner pages are fairly nice.

Hmmmmm...... seems like if you remove all of the resto you're left with a 1.0 at best.  That was a really strong price.

Seems low. What do you base that estimate on?

no pieces added, no Ext CT.  Book looks gorgious.

Harold may very well have picked up already restored books that were subsequently brought to higher grades thru additional resto (that took them to the extensive level )

I have several restored Tecs and held many discussions with Kenny ( from CCS ) and Susan about levels of restoration.

No way a 5.0 universal would go to 8.5 ext. Just no way.

Ive seen Ext (P) books raised 5 grade points - approx. Just sayin

My Tec 27 was a fair/good when I bought it from Gerber now 4.5 E :makepoint: Batman 1 was vg/fine now 8.5 restored :makepoint: Tec 1 was vg/fine now 8.0E :makepoint:

Cause of people like me getting there books restored have made the .05 worth what they are right.

    Tec27 Cgc 1.5 blue = Cgc 4.5 Ext restoration

    Bat1 Cgc 5.0 blue = Cgc 8.5 restored (Ext?)

    Tec1 Cgc 5.0 blue = Cgc 8.0 Ext restoration.

That certainly makes extensive books more relevant for me. I have gone back and forth on this. But If a segment of the Ext-books are only raised approx. 3 grading points, - in that case Id be all over such books in general. Just sayin

Thanks for the replies. By the time I save the money it will probably be forever out of reach. There is a Batman 1 for sale local but I am still trying to get a price for it but doubt it will be in a price range I can afford.

    Dont worry

    i havnt got one either.

    lifes still bearable though.

Have you created a WTB ? Occasionally bump it and maybe one day you'll get lucky.

On a book like this you dont 'get lucky'. Book is too heavily exposed and desired.

You want it - you pony up.

    end of story.

Do you mean desirable or valuable?

I suspect that the most valuable books 10 years from now, owing to overall scarcity and complete rarity in high grade, will be:

    Action 1

    Detective 27

    Superman 1

    Marvel Comics 1

    Batman 1

On the outside looking in will be:

    Captain America 1

    Amazing Fantasy 15

    All-Star 8

BUT, in terms of desirability, e.g. the books most comic collectors are actively looking to add to their collections regardless of grade,  I suspect the list would likely not include any GA books at all, but relatively affordable 1960s-1980s books.

And that list of desirebility would look like ... ?

"Desirable" as a notion is tricky: Hulk 181 might be considered the most desirable at a given point simply because large numbers of collectors can't even wrap their brains around ever owning the big, big books.

Gotta gut feeling the Dark Knight eventually will be stepping up in the grand scheme of things.

And the legacy of AF15 will ascend further.

    Thus:

    Tec27

    AF15

    Action1

    Bat1

    Cap1

You are correct. FF1 was THE book in the early days. FF1 is a super key to own. I've always loved it. First Marvel and it was created to compete with DCs super teams. FF will always be around. It's just tough to make a good movie about it. Kirby at his best. (thumbsu

Goodness no I am not a HA employee and as I said I was in no way trying to defend HA, CGC, or any consignor.  I have never consigned to HA.  I am retired state employee and not even from Texas :)

I was just curious as I said and evidently read too much into your post.

Thanks for your kind answer Telerites .

Not trying to be critical with my question but are you saying HA was at fault for not suggesting the CGC grade did not meet your expectation of a 9.0 or that you did not agree with CGC's 9.0 grade when you received the book or that HA and CGC are in some clandestine partnership to sell overgraded slabs?  Or something else?

Was the book a consignment perhaps from a private party?

Again just trying to understand and apologies for my apparent denseness and am not trying to defend HA, CGC, consignor, etc. - it just got curiosity piqued.

It was stated up-thread there is ownership spillover across HA / CGC. That made me wonder if there could be conflict of interests here? If books Pre auction are submitted by/ through HA to CGC ? And then auctioned?

    But its conjecture.

    are you HA employee?
