Get "Messages in a Bottle" in paperback if you are ok with a soft cover.  It can be found for as little at $15 new from Amazon sellers.

For a hardcover, get "B. Krigstein Comics" - which will set you back considerably more for a new copy (as its out of print), but used copies are fairly affordable.

    "B. Krigstein v. 1" is a great bio.

    Thnx ...

doh!  I'm going back to the GA boards now.  LoL!

More seriously, he was a highly influential artist for EC, Atlas, and DC in the late 1940s and 1950s who is known for his innovative panel arrangements and time breakdowns, especially as used in the story "Master Race," from Impact 1, from which the page above is taken.  Art Spiegelman famously argued in a thesis back in 1969 that Master Race was the greatest comic story ever drawn.  Krigstein was a huge influence on Steranko and Miller, among others.  Fantagraphics has some great books on Krigstein that I encourage you to seek out.

Thanks for putting me out My misery.

    Kriegstein looks like pure awesomeness.

Absolutely true.  Even those become giants, like Miller.  In my opinion, the following sequences from DD 164 are in my top 5 of comic panel sequences of all time:

But, my NUMBER 1 panel sequences are from the story that clearly inspired Miller and of which the above is a homage:

Awesome, - whos this guy Kriegstein?

And the 4.0 restored graded by the other company went for $20,500.

Looks like both of these restored copies sold for only a small fraction of their condition guide price.  Most probably due to the fact that they were both flagged with Extensive Restoration.

And yet the fugly looking 0.5 Trimmed copy also graded by the other company was still able to hit $16,000.  hm

    The 16K .5 makes the 7.5 ext look like a steal ...
