    Fair.

But no precedent in the Marvel books, unlike all the other characters, right?

I guess you are right that the entire superhero pantheon are interpretations of earlier stuff/ideas. All starting with superman/batman being a light/darkness-riff over the otherworldly samarithan (christ) over against the son of darkness (satan). Heck, they are all archetypes.

I’ve never dealt with ComicConnect.  Can someone riddle me this  - Do they at least make the seller confirm that they accept the offer/buy order and that the book is still available before making the buyer pay?  I know that ComicLink does.

In the case with my purchase of the FF45 cgc 7.5 the seller counteroffered multiple times and ultimately accepted a final price. And 2 weeks later the consignor couldnt locate the book. Obviously because it had gone up during february/march.

And this lying consignor left me with a 30$ bill in paypal fees, to get my money back.

    Hello All,

I'm posting this to see if anyone else has experienced horrible customer service/ lack of communication when buying on ComicConnect.

I bought a Fantastic Four #45 CGC 9.2 for $4200 on April 1st.  I sent the a check a few days later as the funds were withdrawn from my account shortly after.

I waited until May 12th (Over a month later) - seeing as I know auction houses are really backed up due to pandemic circumstances.  They replied back to me in an e-mail stating, "

I've messaged the shipping department. If you do not hear from us, the order will be bumped ahead and we should be shipping today.  We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delay.  Best,
    ComicConnect Support Team".

Fast forward to May 19th.  No replies back from ComicConnect yet.  So I sent them another e-mail asking what the "spoon" is going on with this order?

Fast forward to May 28th.  I finally receive an email back from them, stating, "We are very sorry about the delay for your invoice #155111. We have been in contact with the consignor of the Fantastic Four #45 and they let me know that they have been checking their locations for the book and will check one last spot over this weekend, we will have an answer for you by Tuesday on the status of the book."

Sorry for the long post, but I figured people who read this would want to see where I'm coming from/my mindset/frustration with this HORRIBLE COMPANY.

Funny I had a similar experience a 1-2 months ago at Comic Connect. It was also FF 45 but at cgc 7.5.

I negotiated a final price via offer / counter offer procedure.

    I paid.

3-4 weeks after I asked why the book still hadnt shipped.

They responded that it would ship tomorrow.

The next day I was informed “that the seller had misplaced the book” and it was unfortunately not available.

They returned my money via paypal. Getting the cash in my account though cost me around 35$ in paypal conversion fees. Which I had to pay!!!

Pretty much every Marvel Silver Age character came from a previous variation of some sort. Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Spider-man, the FF, Hulk...only one I can't really remember any previous inspiration for was Daredevil.

Are there any Daredevil 'protoypes' that I don't remember from the original, early 60's Marvel heroes?

DD is a Marvel induced Batman ripoff

So ... it sounds like you're saying I shouldn't be that excited about the book or the character because the concepts were lifted directly from mythology?  ???

I am myself exited about JIM 83. Its just not as “original” as the other SA keys.

Kirby had even used the name "Thor" for a strikingly similar character years earlier in DC's tales of the unexpected.

Still, I love JIM83.  Classic cover and the launch of one of Marvels key characters for decades to come.

Make no mistake. I am a huge fan of JIM 83. I love The King.

Still shaking my head over this result.  This exact copy had been offered at $80K on eBay and taken down (presumably, sold for less than that) just a few months ago.

An upgrade to 9.0 was probably my most sought-after collecting goal ... for some reason JIM #83 gets me more excited than AF #15 or any of the other big keys.  But I can't justify that price.

Keep in mind that Marvels Thor universe in its entirety was lifted from Nordic mythology. Everything : characters, background, storylines, equipment. Only the sci fi twist and Kirbys designwork was “original”.

    just sayin.

  8. So, a legit bump for this here thread:

a beautiful 4.0 Bat 1 closes on c-link in 8 hours. 200K currently. Any guesstimates on where it will hammer out?

With the Disney-buying-DC rumour out there and picking up steam, the Bat property could go ballistic if realized. Will this push up final hammer?

    Avengers vs Justice League?

It may not be so far fetched...

Marvel and DC might exist under the same umbrella

If this happens, then I predict that this event will mean, that Batman overtakes Superman as top icon in the superhero pantheon. IF the batman universe joins the MCU and Disney+ under Feigi the franchise will go absolutely ballistic.

Greetings all... Excited to join the club! I  just picked up X-men #94. Mid grade. 5.0 - WHITE pages! Picked it  up from another comic book group but got great advice and a nudge from @Wolverinex whom I met in one of Fool Killer's sales... (of course he beat me to a Silver Surfer  #1!). He also suggested I post the book in this thread as I also had some questions for you experts:

    1. It was graded a 5.0, but man I think it got a bad reviewer on a bad day, it looks like a 6 or 7 to me. So curious to hear what you all think it is.

    2. Should I crack it, to get it cleaned and pressed (I have a great local guy who's done magic for my books). Grader notes are, "moderate creasing to cover" and "moderate spine stress lines to cover".

    3. Can anyone tell if this book has been previously pressed? I think I can see evidence that it hasn't based on this bottom right corner shadow of a bend that if it had been pressed, wouldn't be here.

Alrighty, have at it. Look forward to seeing what folks here say and super stoked to be part of the club!

Oh, and in case folks are wondering... I paid $1250, shipped about a week or so ago. Initial asking was $1400. Maybe a touch high for  the time, but worth paying a little extra for WHITE pages, imho and also still under high's of +$1500 that mid grades of this book have been hitting.

I believe the AF15 7.0 auction referenced above is on Comicconnect, not Comiclink.  CL always has their auction dates listed where as CC are usually TBD.  Assuming I’m right, the 7.0 is very nice but in no way an 8.5-9.0.  I think it’s graded accurately.  Anyway here is a pic of the AF15 7.0 that will be on CC sometime in the near future:

Id say from the scan it looks 7.5ish

Another 3 copies up for for sale in the upcoming May 13 CL auction. JIM 83 overboard lol

JIM 83 pricing in the 7.0-8.0 range have gone up 15-20K just in the last three months. As a consequence its getting crowded at the exit, as holders are obviously all very eager use this spike-window to cash out. With 12 different copies of JIM 83 offered right now (or comming up) at CC, CL and Heritage we will however most likely see a pull back after the spring/covid frenzy. A 20K jump in three months is hardly sustainable imho. But time will tell.
