  2. I hope it's just them waiting until this final session of auctions to end before bringing down their servers and overhauling the entire site. They shouldn't let their guard down just because they're now operating behind Cloudflare.
  3. I love the affordability of the books I'm buying now vs 2 years ago. It means I don't really need to sell the under copies at a loss in order to upgrade so I'm just holding onto a bunch of excess in hopes to sell 3-6 years down the road. Mainly the issue is the time cost of listing and selling the books just to take a loss disincentivizes me from listing. My biggest problem is the amount of space the excess is taking up. Taking a loss on a sale will become more acceptable when I just get tired of having so much comic clutter.
  4. What a mess. Here's my thoughts. Registry sets should be split into newer categories to allow for inclusion/exclusion of Newsstand editions after the introduction of Direct Editions. For example you can have the following 5 competitive sets within the same title and issue run: Best comic set (distribution neutral) where newsstands = direct edition for points Best Direct Edition set (exclusive of Newsstands after the introduction of Direct Editions for that run) Best Newsstand Edition set (exclusive of Direct Editions after the introduction of Direct Editions for that run) Best Overall set where weighted values of Newsstands due to scarcity and value factor into scoring just the same as pedigree and variants where you can only add one or the other. Best Completist set where ALL variations of issues need to be included to achieve set completeness and can be added and factor into the scoring. Not sure what needs to be done programmatically on the back end database but it will likely require a split off of some tables and joining of others with hybrid fields. The biggest issue will be the designation of Newsstand within the database for comic IDs where Newsstand is not yet recorded and where it is recorded in the Pedigree or Variant Field. For set examples 1-3, nothing needs to be done other than ensuring the comic ID is recognized as being a newsstand edition or not. Or ensuring photos are attached to the sets to verify the newsstand barcode on the issue. For set examples 4 and 5, perhaps only the resubbed newsstand editions with its designation will be able to qualify.
  5. I'm not disagreeing with u on that one, lol. I do think many bidders have a similar bid in mind and often guided by gpa. So if you tend to bid early or even late snipe you may find that your bids get run up to their max or you run someone else's bid to their max. The one I was surprised about was the asm #305 9.8 newsstand that went for $1400 within seconds from its final 30 seconds bid of $250. Gpa had it around $300-500. Must have been 2 sniping bidders thinking the same thing: bid $1000+ at the last second thinking they were going to safely get it between $300-700. Poor winning bidder must have put in $1500+ all in and won. Ouch. This is the down side of all in sniping. Upside for clink and the seller.
  6. The site went down Tuesday about an hour before that days session and there were reports of redirects to hentai sites earlier in the day. If xss exploits were used, the target was both customer data as well as company compromise. However if it was just a non-malicious back end issue, they'd have announced something by now. The cybersecurity legal playbook advises them to remain quiet until either their law enforcement or cyber and legal teams say its OK to make an announcement. This happens all the time with the companies you hear about having been hacked. And of course there are so many more you never hear about from the companies that never involve law enforcement and are able to recover quickly or pay off the attackers. A common strategy is for attackers to seek a large ransome and then once they've seen the business suffering enough or trying to fight it, they lower the ransome to an almost impossible to refuse amount and it often gets paid. I kept getting the maintenance page right before the auction bur cleared my cache and rebooted and was good to go. I did notice some very subdued prices on some of the books I bid on. Couldnt tell if it was just from the lack of interest, the timing of Friday night or that folks hadn't reset their browsers to access. Most of my wins went for less than 12mo and 90 day gpa but others went for over gpa so maybe it was just the books offered.
  7. I've moved everything from ebay over to shortboxed. I may not get the same eyes and traffic as ebay but I have begun selling more on shortboxed than ebay and at a comparable pricing. The best part of all, it's only a 10% commission vs ebays 16% due to fees on transaction, shipping, and taxes and shortbox covers the shipping cost out of the 10% fee. They are now allowing raw sales for books over $25. I'm going to give MCS a shot too but I just use ebay as free advertising or to blow out books at auction.
  8. It might be best to change any other account passwords on any other sites that use the same credentials you used with clink. It may also be a good idea to freeze or have new cc issued for any cards you had on file with them and monitor them for any unauthorized charges or activity. At this point, you have to assume the worst. If it was an xss attack, that often targets the end user of a site or application meaning your computer or browser could be compromised as well if not up to date/patched. Run a full system AV scan and uninstall/reinstall your the browsers you used to navigate to the site. Apply any patches or updates to your OS. Don't wait for them to advise you or notify you. Companies often have to resolve issues internally and clear statements with lawyers and law enforcement before sending out notifications to customers.
  9. At this point I'm guessing, totally speculating here, it's a catastrophic data loss or ransomeware as a DoS could have been mitigated by now. In either scenario they're probably trying to decide what their best options to get back up and running are: 1. Rebuild their entire auction from scratch and restart the auction 2. Continue to try and recover the site and data/pay the ransome to decrypt their drives/work with the fbi 3. Cancel the auction and relaunch when their site is recovered/rebuilt.
  10. Emails to individuals in comiclink are working but they may be unable to retrieve/use their customer wide email notification system. I got a response that they are still actively working on the issue and will resume the auction once the site is back online. I've asked them to please send out a mass notification once the site is back online and when they plan to resume the auction before resuming. Hopefully it'll be more than an hours notice.
  11. Whether it was xss or tainted dns, they could resolve that by now with the ISP or data center security countermeasures. We wouldnt necessarily be presented with ransomeware pages. The ransomware/DoS/exploit or catastrophic failure could bring down the back end sql or storage and even the front end pages but they could still bring up a fresh patched generic web server to serve up the maintenance page they have now for customers. Ransoware messages pages would likely be visible internally to the admins. Either way they are too busy dealing with it as emails to their support have gone unanswered.
  12. I was able to access the pages with no issues around noon yesterday. Then around 7pm I couldn't load pages without the server maintenance page showing up However from the sounds of the reports of the behaviors leading up to the outage it sounds almost like an issue with their web hosting service or DNS poisoning. I'm surprised to see their site still down this morning. I wonder what their SLA uptime they are paying for. If they've been down this long, they're either dealing with a data center issue or maybe even a DoS/ransomware attack of some sort. If they are unable to recover the auction pages and bids at the point of the outage, they may just have to redo all of the auctions. Hopefully it's just web traffic and server front end issues.
  13. I'm going to interpret this to mean there won't be a resumption of the auction today and it will be rescheduled for tomorrow?
  14. I wonder if they will just postpone it a day or kick it off randomly in the next hour or 2 without us knowing.
  15. This book's pages are so white that they must have used white on white font when printing the grade and PQ label. Or perhaps CGC is now using color (or absence of) to indicate the PQ of the book. That or they couldn't agree on the PQ and just left it blank as a cop-out for you to interpret the PQ you think it is. It's not listed in the CGC cert verification page. No grader's notes either so you have to interpret the grade as well.
  16. I was initially thinking along the lines of what Geeksaremypeeps said. If they don't check the interior pages very well, how many 9.6s and 9.8s out there could potentially have this defect that was missed. On the other hand, cgc is known to allow common production defects that affected a significant portion of the print run to be allowed in 9.8. I only know of less than a handful of raw copies out there that could be checked. If this was a common defect, some of those may have it. I would hope none of the 9.8 graded copies would have it. I suspect if this thread gets any of the graders attention they'll be looking closer for it.
  17. I was tracking this one. It just went for $7200 and change all action at the last min and 30 seconds. I'm curious what this one will grade out as. The only real defect is the large (production?) ink fade at the top of interior page 2 and 3 that affects the art and some of the story.. Seller had it as a NM- due to the defect. How do you think CGC will treat this one? At the price it went, the buyer thinks it's in the 9.0-9.4 range.
  18. Me too! Except the graders notes don't mention the stain. 100% agree, but it's hard when you can't see the defects until after you've bought the book and it's in your hand. I guess the rule should be buy a returnable book and not the grade.
  19. Id say your conspiracy cup runneth low. Allow me to fill it. The comic hobby is a very tight and incestuous community. Most large dealers, comic auction employees, artists/writers and other industry pros and big time collectors have personal and business relationships with each other. It wouldn't be a stretch to hear about a big submission or high quality submission making its way to a grading company and for employees of said grading company to hear of it. The graders aren't supposed to know the provenance or origins of the comics put in front of them but there are some big books whose owners may well be known. Then there's the standard office gossip. 20 huge boxes from Dallas, TX (Heritage) or Maine/Chicago (ComicLink), or NYC (Metropolis/Comicconnect) sending the receiving dept into overdrive. Shift managers share the news in the halls and during lunch hours, word gets around or a call from upper management comes down to the pressing and grading service to put a high priority rush on this new batch of books. It wouldn't be too hard to figure out whose books those are from. Tin foil hat time: a call from dealer/auction/Big Name Collector to CGC mgmt. List of books, cgc submission info and tracking info. Cgc mgmt relays info to head grader and trusted associates. Books get the preferential treatment. This happens in every industry. Why would comics be any different?
  20. You're not alone. That time between the USPS tracking status showing as delivered and it finally showing up under the received status in cgc can seem like an eternity especially when it's a high value comic or of very sentimental value. But during certain times of the year it can take longer than others. Keep in mind that CGC doesn't start entering comics into their system the day they receive the packages in the mail. They may not even start opening your boxes until up to 2+ weeks after receiving them depending on the tier of service. It's why they ask you to mark the boxes for the higher tier of service so they know which ones to prioritize. Low tier moderns will be at the back of the line. High tier, I would check weekly. However, during con season the normal gap between delivered and cgc received status stretches. It's when their staff is stretched thin and they're bringing in high volumes of con submissions from all the back to back weekends of conventions. I usually check after a week and a half of its delivery and set reminders for myself weekly. I think the sweet spot for sending books to cgc is late winter to early spring Jan-March.
  21. Yes this just happened to me through the app. Fortunately I only wanted one item and was happy my offer was accepted. However when presented with it again later with a desire to make offers on multiple items, I just opened up a new ebay account and it allowed me to make the offers without prompting me to select a payment method. I think I'll probably just have to message the seller to offer a lot sale if that account gets brought under autopay.
  22. Ah that's right. Yeah the inquiry was for ASM 416 which doesn't have the blurb so maybe only for directs for that is. Thank you for the info.
  23. I received a question about the presence of an overpower card in one of my newsstand listing. When I checked, I found none in any of my newsstands from that period but they are in the direct edition copies. None of the newsstand copies look like they had them removed. They are present after the 4th wrap of the comic. Does anyone know if they were only included in direct edition copies?
