  1. Albert Dorne died in 1965. I wonder if they kept running that ad past his death?
  2. When I got over 300 pounds it flattened out the spine roll.i was only 195 when I bought it.
  3. I can't imagine it is trimmed. This was a $5 book until interesting archie covers started picking up. My guess is it ends around $20-35.
  4. Ok, you guys sound right.usually watery books don't look as nice as this on the non-stained parts. I like the cover but do not want to pay real $ for a stainer. Pondering.
  5. For the record, I have never sent a book into cgc much less got one pressed. Bought and sold slabs, of course. I am trying to evolve.
  6. I guess I was trying to gauge the thinking on this board, which has a mix of pure "I never sell" collectors, "I flip to pay for my hobby" collectors, dealers, junior dealers, flippers, and junior flippers. And often a hybrid of all of the above.
  7. It seems pretty likely only a fraction of diamond account holders can go to these things as many cannot afford the flight, the hotels, etc. Selling some variants does not seem enough to pay for that. Which explains why 3000 aren't given out. Most shops are too broke to afford the trip. That is anecdotal though.
  8. If it is on front and back I assume a little bit on the interior bottom too. Probably got soaked in Betty's tears or something.
  9. "Incredible"... I was expecting a stash of timelys or something! these boards have me jaded. But it's a nice score for sure. Press the iron man 55 and slab it. I am not sure any of the other books warrant it. Not sure the condition on killer croc and what it is going for now.
  10. So "collectors" don't care about a .2 or .4 or whatever bump? Seems like plenty do. If someone does not care about the grade, why send it in? A resto check? Everything in my collection is subject to sale depending on financial needs, but there are books I have owned since I was 5 in there too. I ask because I posted a book.. A modern variant with no obvious flaws I thought was a likely 9.8... And someone said press it. As there is probably a $150-200 difference between 9.6 and 9.8 I get it. And yes, I guess that would be a flip, I cannot justify sitting on a $800-1000 modern variant in my collection. I have sat on my hulk 2 since 1996, but this seems silly.
  11. You spent what, $50 on a press and slab you would have done and an extra $15-25 on the book? They ought to give you some sort of relief. You have a $15 slab now.
  12. I would stilm raise it. A rip is unlikely caused by ccs. They did not carefully grade the back cover of a less expensive book. It happens.
  13. I have some likely submissions that could be helped, but have some others that do not seem obviously pressable for improvements. But honestly, what do I know? Is it now the norm. For you to press and spend the $15 or whatever if a .2 bump may net another $50-100+ even when you have doubts you can get a bump? Do they press anyway even if they don't see a likely improvement by pressing?

  15. I would raise a stink with CC about the 7.5 though. On the 9.8 you pressed it, maybe that raised it. Don't give CC credit for selling you a raw 9.8, they did not. What they did do was sell you a raw 6.5 graded 9.4 after you spent $ pressing it.
  16. What do you think this little bit does to a book in terms of grade? Knick it down two grades...so if it was a VF, now a VG? More? Less?:
  17. I think you are trying to trick me! The interweb says they are worth about $12 a pop! Maybe I can scrape the gold off them and sell it as scrap?
  18. Where were they held? All over I take it? My guy in NYC never talked about them, but he would have never travelled outside the city for anything. He did not know how to drive!
  19. Yeah, free stuff is good. I don't think they had these when I was "General Counsel" to my local comic shop back in 97-99.
  20. rma... Why do you go to these events? Do you work with a retailer? Are there non-retailers in the business who have fenagled their way on these lists? I am just curious. My wife is a master at getting herself on invite lists. The amount of swag she used to bring home was nuts.

  22. Special Counsel Blob will issue a report on the inquiry. It may take a year or two.
  23. The amount of mental energy devoted to this inane argument is astonishing. Frankly I cannot even get clear what the heck you are arguing about. Someone needs to pay me $500 an hour in Darker Image Golds to sort this all out.
  24. OK, I don't have a problem if it has a big fat "$3.99" on the cover. As for the NM 98 I just can't fathom the stupidity of the people bidding these up. Reminds me of people paying money for the Fantasy Masterpieces 1 Silver Surfer book.
  25. I accidentally listed a book in my store not realizing it was a promoted listing with a hefty promotion fee (I used a promoted item as a template). I immediately got an offer and accepted. Now the buyer is trying to weasel out, citing bills, etc. Fine, I don't care. While I know I would get my regular fees back for a cancellation, do I get my promotional fees back?
