  1. wow, thanks for the great info. I will be on the hunt this weekend
  2. im not familiar with that spiderman cover at all, is that exclusive to the walmart 3 pack? I don't see it as a variant cover that was released and would have just happened to be in the pack.
  3. im still always down for pulling out some Human Flys or Nova for a buck. around here they want $5 each for that classicness
  4. I got mine direct from bcw, free shipping on over $80 which was easy for me to hit. cant go wrong as they work great.
  5. I would kill for dollar books of bronze silver age stuff. never seen that any large con or local show here ever.
  6. couldn't they at least do a better job organizing the shows so that all the comic dealers could be in one area that way I only have to concentrate on one are of the convention. that way I don't have to compete with someone posing in front of a Jurassic park jeep to take pictures or some insufficiently_thoughtful_person spilling his wild bills soda in the aisles while I try to look at books. basically have 5 smaller conventions under one large umbrella and I would find it more enjoyable.
  7. ya, the tv model would at least be a compromise to me. I love trying to explain comics to new collectors or non collectors and trying to explain which #1 is good or what cover is good and getting blank lost stares coming back. I always get asked why is there 10 #1's, that doesn't make sense. then I give them marvels excuse for it and they come back even more confused because they know its more confusing trying to figure out which #1 goes with which #2 and so on in order to try and complete a run if they even wanted to attempt it, so most times they just don't bother and just say the hell with it. it would be so much easier for new customers to know 110 comes after 109 then to research vol 9 #1 comes after vol 8 #22. I mean how can they say the legacy numbering is too daunting a task. plus they have all these different story lines for jumping on points if they just stuck with the legacy numbering. plus I know if I was a new customer a read a #1 that had no origin at all and was basically the middle of a story I would be even more confused and not pick up the next issue anyway. its not like these #1's are true start overs, they just continue the last volumes story for the most part. I know im preaching to the choir. and as an aside, I love trying to tell the wife that I want a particular comic for a gift or something and have to tell her the volume, which cover, etc which makes her confused. so I supply a picture but then she doesn't even know how to search for it. would be so much easier just saying wolverine 50 and being done with it. I also find it funny that "kids" comics like Sonic or Simpsons haven't done the renumbering approach but kids still buy them. if kids aren't confused or even care why would marvel not give adults more credit on figuring this out. plus most new readers would be kids anyways and they have proven not to care about high numbers. and I really wonder if they did 10 covers of issue #13 would sales really be that much lower than issue #1 which are inflated just because they do so many variant covers over other issues.
  8. haha, what a joke. so he claims he would sell the book to you at a discount but yet wouldn't sell it to you at a higher price that you agreed to when you placed the bid. if your a liar at least make sense when you lie. how could he even conciously type that statement.
  9. I know we all want legacy numbering but its not likely it will ever stick or last. this latest ploy is just marketing to hit some milestone numbers and they will be right back to vol 20 # 1 in no time. So instead of starting over time and time again at random would it be better off if they just used an yearly number system. for instance each year has 12 issues, so right now for april the book would be labeled 2017 #4, come January its 2018 #1 and it runs through #12. at least we could keep track of when things came out and would be much easier to know what volume these books are in. I really noticed how frustrating all these different volumes are this past month as I converted my comic spreadsheet over to a comic app and had to search 10 volumes of punisher to find the right #1's. and its like this for basically every title now and will only get worse.
  10. the spawn satan wars from like 20 issues ago by Larsen is some of the worst art I have ever seen in my life. plus the story was terrible on top of it. going from McFarlane, to Capullo, and even Portacio you have some expectations going into a spawn book and Larsen just destroyed those issues. as far as JRJR, he has zero talent, dude gets jobs based on his name and nothing else. that latest issue of suicide squad makes me want to kill puppies its so bad.
  11. i don't understand how they stay in business either. even if their prices weren't 5 times too high their website is such garbage I would never even attempt to order anything from them. MCS is rather good. I have had some issues recently where the grades were majorly off with ripped issues or ink smudges etc. but overall they do grade rather well. I think these were just errors and misses as opposed to just terrible grading practices. but I think their pricing is spot on. I basically use their site as my price guide since its easy to search books and they have most issues in stock. also their pricing seems to be average of ebay prices, matches most convention prices and is cheaper than any LCS around me. So its at least a good guideline to use to see what a book is worth when digging long boxes at conventions and you need to know quick. now the prices people sell books on MCS through commissions, those people are on serious crack with the high rates they charge.
  12. comics will never go away just like dvds and cds will never go away. people always ask why I still buy dvds. its because I want to watch a movie when I want to watch it. I cant stand relying on Netflix to currently have it or if the streaming service goes down, plus the picture and sound quality is no where close to blu ray quality. when I browse those services they very rarely have any movies even worth watching. I guess if your not a true movie fan Netflix works but than again might as well just watch basic cable at that point. but im also not the average person to sit and watch movies in their living room on a 40" tv. I have a 110" with 7.2 surround and rumble chairs in a theatre room so I expect better quality so paying $20 for a blu ray is no big deal. I enjoy the experience as its better and cheaper doing this than going to the theatre for like $30 a couple and dealing with insufficiently_thoughtful_persons walking around and talking. and cds, I can buy brand new ones almost always for $9.99, the digital version is $11.99. why would I not buy the physical copy for less and have something as a back up if my computer crashes. technology is for suckers. back to comics, ill take a physical copy everytime. artwork doesn't translate digitally to me the same way actual paper does. and while theres millions of dollar books out there by far most of my collection is worth more than cover so in a bind I could always sell them, not much hope of selling digital items everyone gets with a sub.
  13. aside from the political issues brought up here can I just point out the obvious that marvel has just been outright stupid and that is why sales are suffering. how else can you explain books like slapstick, fool killer, prowler, etc apparently being better sellers than wolverine and fantastic four. they must think they are better sellers since they produced one and not the other. no one in their right mind could ever conceive such a notion. and they just have too many solo books for anyone to care about. guardians of the galaxy could be a strong title as a stand alone. but when you make a rocket, star lord, gamora, drax, and groot book in addition to guardians it all gets very watered down. stick with the main team books and the heavy hitter solo acts like spiderman and hulk and call it a day. I think this alone would greatly improve sales. I would even attempt to get all marvel books if they only published 20 or so titles a month. but seems their strategy of selling is to sell 1 copy of 100 different books than 100 copies of just 1 book which does nothing but increase their costs while still hitting the same sales which equals lesser profit.
  14. I forget the issue number but the Spawn issue where Granny Blake dies was pretty sad.
  15. sorry to come off so harsh especially on a first post. ive been a lurker for a long while but this topic just made me need to talk. im definitely bitter towards these cosplayers. I was fine with it years ago but after constantly being bombarded by rude and annoying cosplayers they have worn me down. its like that cute neighbor kid who is cool the first week you move in but after years of him coming over and annoying you your just done with him. again if they would just act normal I wouldn't have a problem, not like i have a problem with the huge amount of autograph hounds that show up, they just get in line and do their thing. or it would be the equivalent of me laying on the floor of the convention taking up the aisle while I search long boxes under a table and just sing songs or shout impersonations of every comic character I flip through, im sure people would hate me too.
  16. first off major cons have become pointless to attend. I don't know why anyone goes anymore. I don't need to spend $50 to go to look at promotional booths and annoying cosplayers. I know from attending Wizard World Philly the past 15 years that the show used to be awesome. it was an entire con filled with hundreds of dealers all selling comics or figures and maybe one or two t shirt stands. now this past year there might have been 8 comic vendors. the rest were pirate ships, a huge soda booth, a zombie cage, at&t, some movie sponsor and whatever I could care less about. it was my final straw and why im not going this year. again I don't need to spend $50 to be bombarded with advertisements, I get that for free all the time. these local hotel shows for $5 that have twice the comic vendors and much better deals is where its at. I can walk out with a ton of comics in hand for what it would just cost me to get into the big con. as for celebs, I do like when they attend but again wizard world sucked all the fun out of that. having some comic related media guests who sign for around $50 bucks is cool. having chris evans come and sign the letter C with a line after it for $500 is not cool. ive been to celebrity shows and that's all it really is, its not meant for vendors and I prefer that. keep them separate as they draw far different crowds anyhow. finally all cosplayers should be punched in the face. sorry but its true. they are the most annoying loud obnoxious people on the planet. its one thing to just dress up but no they have to shout and run around like spoiled children. they pose directly in the middle of aisles like look at me I can be cool for one day because the 364 other days they are a total losers. they don't mind bumping into people with their 15 ft foam sword so guess what, when I walk by I intentionally trample parts of the costume or give them a stiff shoulder. if your rude enough to expect me to move around you like im not there ill be rude enough to make it a point that I am there. maybe they will get a clue. and it would be somewhat enjoyable if they actually put effort into costumes. 99% of them wear terrible Halloween costumes, are 300 lbs and somehow think they are Harley Quinn. and I swear if I have to stand next to one more joker in line who does the worst joker laugh every five minutes because he thinks hes cool while i wait to get in for 2 hours I may honestly go postal on them. these people are rude dorks with zero social skills who cant handle themselves. also for the very few who actually look good or "hot", on the street they are still trash, they just look good compared to the ultra pathetic cosplayers that make up the 99%. I know dealers are always annoyed with them blocking their booths and they never buy anything so no point catering to them. dealers are becoming less and less because they just cant make money at these shows. long story longer, cons are garbage anymore because they over exploited it. its why mini shows are popping up all over the place. I expect these shows to restart and in another 20 years will probably become the new "con" as shows like wizard world die off from over hype. its a vicious cycle.
