Hey a new list!
My guess, just for giggles:
1. The 1/5000 signed Superman vs. Spider-Man limited, signed by Lee and Infantino.
2. The hardback Action 1.
3. The hardback Detective 27.
4. The Whitman Superman vs. Ali
5. Superman vs. Aliand wow, Treasuries are popping on eBay.
Hardback? What is this hardback you speak of?

BTW what would be the most valuable treasury edition? Superman vs Ali? vs Spiderman?any hidden gems?

How about wolverine 55 I think it was that had x23 as a test tube but it's not on the cgc label??? I agree it's a nothing book! But since it said x23 on the test tube of that issue, marvel could always mess with our heads and rewrite it as a "first" something or other. I'm more making fun of marvel than anything in saying I wouldn't put it past them. Even though Craig Kyle, creator of x23, said it was pure coincidence. I guess in some cases and in a fictional world nothing is impossible?? I think things like this are cool but not because it is a first appearance.....just neat but who knows what else to call it?
Oh great! Now I gotta go check out WOLVERINE 80. Lucky I have an issue.

Is there a bubble brewing? I've noticed a lot of modern books can't seem to hold long term value. They will spike then fall hard. Even WALKING DEAD #1 has fallen a bit. But PETER PANZERFAUST? THIEF? CHEW? BONE? GOON? Will these books have long term value? I know things can turn on a dime but I am wonder if we are not heading toward another crash.

That is cool! Alas I doubt I'll ever see a high grade copy.
Did you guys see that Voldy is grading Treasuries now? I wish CGC would do something similar.
What is VOLDY? Is there a link?

Ragman is a great book, but the Ragman on "Arrow" doesn't really have much to do with the "real" Ragman, and he has sorta disappeared again. Kind of a waste of the character.
Too bad but that may be a good thing. Might get a second chance.

ragman was already on 'the arrow', and was actually pretty cool, but no real impact on the price of ragman 1. Not that I don't love me some ragman.
I was not aware of that. Sometimes things can take time. Given time and some really good episodes with him or a series with him as a central character, who knows. I never pass up a #1 in high grade if they are $5 or less. Look at NEW MUTANTS #1. $1 fodder for a loooooong time.
One of my general rules is if you see a #1 or 1st appearance of anything for a $1 or less pick it up no matter what it is. Most of the time you won't regret it.

Please understand, historically, these pressing discussions can become pretty 'heated'. My desire to keep the thread on track was simply to keep the conversations civilized and avoid conflicts. I appreciate your civil responses and your examples turned out to be valuable, though as mentioned above, not in the way you intended. Regarding your presser, I am sorry but I still don't think he is doing a good job, adequate maybe, but not good. He has a press, knows how to turn it on, but his skill set appears to stop there. Thanks again for being a good sport about all this.
Nothing ventured. Nothing gained. I understand this can be a point of contention. Especially since even the slightest .5 can change the value of a key book. I just wanted to share my experiences. That is all. You are entitled to your opinion and I respect that. I appreciate pointing out his short comings and I will certainly mention it to him but I have known him for a long time. I may start looking into how CGC presses their book and compare.

-- pressing discussions can always be a can of worms -
You did show examples of quick press jobs and show what can be easily seen with an inexperienced presser, so it did add in to the discussion - just not in the way you expected.
A good takeaway for you --- is that you may be happy with your presser - but there is a reason the big hitters get the results that they do ( and two of them have posted in this thread). The books you showed, were all improvable ( and improved) with your guy, but two had obvious flaring and one really looked only halfway complete. The pros - would likely have given you at least one more grade bump with the flaring, and maybe more on the TEC that still shows a lot of waves.
I understand that now. Thanks for the feedback.

Getting silly...
Ok, I think this needs to be addressed.
I've noticed now that collector's and dealers are saying articles and ads are counting as 1st appearances. I think this is getting out of hand. It should always be in the official capacity of which they debuted in a story.
Do you agree or do you think that non-story debuts count as official first appearances?
-
I have used the same presser for years and I am very happy with results and he is very experienced.
I did not realize that I was opening a can of worms by posting examples and my experiences. I thought I was being helpful. Oh, well.

Here is an extreme case of pressing. I got a IRON FIST #14 from my LCS for about $20 due to the wrinkles as you can see in the before pictures. I went to my comic press guy and it came back much nicer looking as you can see. There can be a great difference in appearance.
Here are before and after pics.

Here is an example of slightly flared corners. Top and bottom outside edges tend to "lift" slightly. CGC would give a book like this a slight hit because of the flaring. Staples also look slightly recessed. Another issue CGC would deduct for.
The book was submitted to CGC after pressing and it came back 9.0. I think before pressing it probably would have been a 8.5.

Found these buried in a lot I bought at estate sale. No idea what these are other they are British. Are they worth anything?

Agreed! I just got a SHOWCASE #37 from CGC and found it that it had been restored. Dang color touch! Now I got to find a unrestored one. I bought a MY GREATEST ADVENTURE #80 for $3 about 5 years ago from a dealer's clearance box. Still have it. Had it graded recently. Came back a 4.0. Not bad I would say. As long as we are on DOOM PATROL. #99 (1st BEAST BOY) has seen some heat and would be a good one to get. I got my years ago in VFN for about $8 and in plentiful supply. Not so much now. #100 is also not a bad one to get (origin). Still easy to get and not as expensive.
SHOWCASE is a treasure trove of possible goodies. LOTS OF 1st APPEARANCES and SILVER AGE re-boots. I am trying to get a complete run.
Another overlooked gem is ADVENTURE COMICS #269 (1st AQUALAD). With AQUAMAN and TEEN TITANS movies in the works only a matter of time. This book is really hard to find in high grade at a reasonable cost.
