Oh, I know. I wasn't even aware of Okajimas until probably 3 years ago or so. I figure it never hurts to ask...someone might have one they would let go for cheap, or at least reasonably priced. I have tried to get one example from every pedigree for a video series I am doing. I have to admit to being guilty of overpaying for old books that are torn and ratty just to save them from being thrown away. Age doesn't matter to me, but I do love the GA and SA stuff. PDG

I don't think I have posted much in the Silver Age threads, but I am doing a video series about the Pedigree comics - I intend to have more videos about other books as well. A HUGE part of my collection is Silver Age, so I will get there eventually. Anyway, I am focusing on the history of comics and the pedigrees are the starting point. I welcome views and subscribers of course. I am first and foremost a collector - I am not looking to sell anything, but if that comes up later - then great! My videos are really to build a knowledge base about the books. I am not doing a hot 10 or top 10 or anything of that nature - so mine is a bit of a niche within the comic book collecting community. If I am wrong about something or if you know something that I don't - please share it!! I posted my latest video about the Curator Collection a couple of days ago. I think @Professor K was spot on. Comics were the original medium for the superhero genre, but kind of a "side item" for the cartoons. At the same time I managed to acquire a few of the Dell file copies of early Bugs Bunny comics recently. I didn't buy them for investment or anything, but to preserve the history and heritage of them. But otherwise I thought they were neat books! PDG

I guess I have taken the classic view: 1938-1956 (AC1-SC4) Possible sub-category of PCH and/or Atomic Age 1956-1970 (SC4-GA76) 1971-1985 (GA76-DK1) The case could certainly be made for an "Atomic Age" during the early 50s. And I really look at anything between 1956 (SC4) up through around 1964 as being transitional between the GA (or Atomic Age) and the Silver age. They have a writing/art style difference that I think we all agree on, and those are the turning points in my mind. The appearance of caped super-heroes (Phantom anyone??) would certainly be a change point or the implementation of the CCA would certainly trigger some changes as an example. PDG

So far, I have 10 videos posted - some about me - some about pedigrees - some general comic content. My intent is to spread knowledge. I invite anyone to share information with me - correct me if I have something that is wrong - let me know additional information about something I post - or SHOULD post! Some of you may recognize books that I have purchased from you - here on the CGC boards!! I am doing this just for fun - if it turns into something bigger then that's awesome - if not - that's perfect fine with me. I have collected comics for nearly 50 years, so I want to share the knowledge that I have for the next generation. I am ALWAYS open for collaborations and am grateful for you reading this post. PDG

I would be extremely proud to own the worst condition Okajima book out there. It would be a highlight of my collection. @Blackmask if, by some chance, you have any in low grade condition like that you want to get rid of - let's talk! I don't have a big budget, but I am looking to consolidate the stories of many of these pedigrees and want to do so by creating a video series on each of the pedigrees - I even have a few of them done!! Okajima is one that I have kind of put out of mind because they are generally out of my league price-wise. I feel like these books all tell stories that are getting lost in much of today's culture - so I want to preserve what I can and would love to tell the story of the Okajima pedigree with a book in hand. I got to meet Jim in 2019 and he signed a few books for me. Genuinely one of the most fascinating people I have ever had a conversation with - and I have met a LOT of celebrities over my time. I wasn't able to go to Planet Comicon this year, but sent a number of books to get signed and I am QUITE happy with all of them. Got my XMen 49 & 50 both signed along with some Captain America and my Hulk Special 1. That reminds me, I need to get those added to my comic wall. PDG

Got a copy in my Amazon cart because of this thread. I get it every year as a reference guide. I don't so much worry about the prices, but I like having the data points as @sfcityduck pointed out earlier in the thread. I keep the current copy in my bedroom near my nightstand, I have the previous copy in my office, then I have the other historical references on the shelves in my office. I don't spend a huge amount of time at my home office very much, so I don't need the newest most updated info. PDG

So, I was thinking about our hobby and how this sub-forum is dedicated to the "Golden Age" of comic collecting. Many of you have known that I have a certain fascination with the pedigree books - I have posted about those before. Anyway, my question/challenge to anyone is a two-parter. 1. What is the oldest graded comic book? 2. What is the oldest graded pedigree comic book? Anyone got the answers to these questions?? Post up your pics!! I know I am not even close, but my oldest is date June of 1941 - Tip Top Comics #62. It's currently the oldest I have in my collection and it's a Lost Valley Pedigree. My previous oldest book was a Marvel Mystery 11 with a cover date of September 1940, but that was part of my stolen collection. PDG

I will have to relay that message to my wife....she doesn't seem to think so. Although she did let me buy it. Then she let me bring my son and my youngest daughter home from the hospital in the car. PDG
