Yes, conventions and other forms of buying in person have changed. But, at a show, you get the “thrill of the hunt” and the discovery. You also get to converse with like minded folks. Catching up with friends and meeting new ones.
Thumbs up. Conversations at the Berkeley show yesterday were amazing.

It's been an odd winter when storms that hit here and peter out before hitting LA seem to be the reverse this season. Our predicted thunderstorm today didn't even happen. I'm going to go watch the Cal women's tennis match (against UCLA, ironically).

We are back! Tim and I will be putting on our latest comics-only show, full of back issues galore. Had to do a Sunday this time, likely our only Sunday show of the year.
As always, lots of free parking, near the highway and close to North Berkeley BART. Early bird $15 11 am to noon, $10 noon to five.
Details: berkeleycomicshow.com
Vendors include A-1, Worlds of Wonder, Heroes, Champion, Bud Plant, Steve Wyatt, Gary Carter, and myself. Full list will be posted in a few days. Includes a few new vendors doing their first show ever.

Didn't hear about the More Fun. Perhaps it was Antone Perry, who had a Jumbo #1 (?) at the show a year or three ago.
I know Lou (Dragstrip Comics) likes to always have foreign comics and picked up a lot of UK copies on a trip to England last summer.
It's a potent show, with vendors who are always picking up fresh stock.

Great to have you back! Thanks for making a pretty substantial drive!

Wow, that's great to hear that you are feeling better!
As always, we have a fresh dealer lineup with about nine vendors who rotated back in after not doing the October show. I'll post that list soon.

Interesting insight, though the titles definitely had the same number of pages.

Swamp Thing 37 as well, right?

Is Gary Carter back into dealing comics?
Selling some comics, pulps, fandom stuff, bound issues of CBM, etc. I assume it's mainly stuff he owned pre-2000 and he isn't out buying collections or anything. But yes, the last two Berkeley shows were his first shows since I believe SDCC 2001.

Those Tomahawk stories are great! Back in 1976 DC put out a Treasury called, Superman salutes the Bi-Centennial. It featured the great cover from Superman #14 and was filled with Tomahawk reprints. A bit of false advertising but it was a great introduction to that characters stories.
That's what's inside? I had no idea!

Hello everyone--our traditional autumn show is coming right up on the 28th. The room is positively packed with comic books, the vast majority of which are vintage. The regular vendors are constantly buying and processing, so it's very fresh every time.
I count nine vendors who will be setting up who were not at the August show! This includes at least four who have never set up at our show, as well as the return of vendors like A-1 Comics and Shortboxed.
Saturday, October 28, 11 am to noon early admission, $15. Regular admission 12-5, $10. Same great location near the highway. Big free parking lot.

If you can't make this one, we will return in mid-January. We do five shows a year, like clockwork.

This thread is really good!
My unpopular take is that Frank Robbins did a good job on Invaders. Somehow his art fits there. (I hate his Batman.)

I was selling every week in the CBG in 1987-1988 I do remember that article. I had hopes on selling my Tec 27 for a house myself.
Nice!

Berkeley Comic Show--Sunday, April 7!

Attendance was great--maybe our biggest spring show ever. Conversations were amazing. Plus I got to not only be next to Gary Carter, but next to Gary Carter's original wombat--same one he used for all the San Diego shows back in the day. Think of all the Church copies that were once on that rack!
Second show in a row for the pizza truck and with good attendance and winter over I'd assume they'd be back. Next show June 29!
