  1. Stealing this cover from Collin in the "greedy SOB" thread: This same Jack Farr drew a story in Fantastic Comics #2 (1/40), among others. I don't know anything about him... I would assume from his work for Fox that he was a member of the Eisner/Iger shop, before the war started? Very distinctive art (and lettering), to say the least!
  2. What a great cover!! The ape looks like he's wondering which of his cousins were sacrificed to make that woman's crazy bikini...
  3. I'm a superhero guy but the WDC cover is just too pretty. Donald all the way!
  4. Hey John, Annual #1 is pretty much essential if you like the early ASMs...one of the best Spidey stories ever! As you say, it's the first appearance of the Sinister Six by Lee and Ditko, and a terrific read. They really worked their hearts out on this book. Annual #2 is also quite good. It kicks off with a non-reprint Spidey and Dr. Strange story by Ditko, and has backup reprint stories from ASM #1, 2 & 5 (reprints starting to creep in...). I've never read the Spectacular mag #1, but #2 is an excellent Norman Osborn/Green Goblin story (56 pages, I believe!) and fits right into the continuity of the then-current ASM stories (it's the only full GG appearance between ASM #40 & #96). Well worth getting this one as well.
  5. I like the way you slyly tucked this one in among the Byrne books... Allow me to say at this juncture... Many congrats, Danny!
  6. Really? I had no idea you had a #2 for sale...you've been much too quiet about it... I appreciate the heads-up, and it's a great book, but I'll have to pass...I'd just rather not spend $300+ on an SA book, unless it's one I'm dying to have. Leaving aside #1 and #2, I'm basically down to needing these "minor key" books (1st Mysterio, 1st Scorpion, 1st Rhino) which in my opinion are more than a bit overpriced in the guide. (Why is #13 valued at 25% more than #11 and #12, the 2nd & 3rd Doc Ock stories? Are there Mysterio completists out there?) I think ebay prices are quite a bit softer than guide on these, so with patience I hope to get lucky as I did with the #16.
  7. Thanks for the applause, guys. Staring at this cover a bit more, I love the crazy, contorted position Spidey is drawn in, especially when contrasted with DD's much more straightforward position. Who but Ditko has ever drawn a cover hero quite like that! Somehow this cover never jumped out at me, but I'm digging it now.
  8. This was part of my first post to this thread a few months ago. Issues I now need: down to #1, 2, 13, 20 & 41...
  9. Here's a nice copy of ASM #16 that just rolled in. Haven't read this story in 20 years...
  10. Thanks, Ryan! Funny thing is, this actually happens in the story. The bad guy yells at The Flame "Stay back...unless you want half the city BLOWN UP!" The Flame advances anyway...the bad guy presses a button...and sure enough, half the city is blown up. I guess even superheroes have off-days.
  11. Great Tec 36! Let me know if you ever want to sell it...I feel strangely drawn to it.
  12. "Alex, I'll take 'More Unusual Lou Fine Color Schemes' for $1000...." Here's a neat Fox you don't see all the time...not quite as cool as Wonderworld #7 and #8, but still a fun one. A wild rainbow of colors here!
  13. NY Times ASM inserts are the rarest of the rare...even I can't locate those.... Thanks for the Spidey #31, Collin!
  14. Weird Comics for me for sure, Fox junkie that I am, but I'd be awfully happy with that Gaines copy Haunt too!
  15. BTW, the price would be lower if you hadn't bid on it six times...
  16. Andy, you're moving into the Fox market? All hope is lost!
  17. Great find, but damn, I was hoping it was lower grade. Too rich for my blood; have to pass...
