  1. I'm not seeking validation... it's the biggest event in the history of my collection and I wanted to TALK about it with people who have some idea what I'm saying. (That rules out family, friends, and co-workers in the 'real world'... so you virtual world guys are it!)
  2. He's more private with his collection and business deals than I am. My post allowed people to know about his trade because I was talking about my trade. I was asking people to leave him alone because I'm the reason they started contacting him. He's happy with the trade and with his book... and the majority agree with him. Nothing I am saying will make it a bad deal for him. My post was explaining why I'm also happy with the trade, and what I was thinking... seeing the results of the poll that most voters would not have done what I did.
  3. There are currently 112 votes for CGC 4.0 Amazing Fantasy #15. There are currently 40 votes for CGC 9.6 TMNT #1. Assuming those 112 who voted for the CGC 4.0 Amazing Fantasy #15 would also be happy with any higher grade... there are 581 copies available. That's over 5 copies per voter. If everyone had the money, everyone could have the book. Assuming those 40 who voted for the CGC 9.6 TMNT #1 would also be happy with any higher grade... there are 38 copies available. There aren't enough for 1 each. No amount of money satisfies all 40 people with 38 books.
  4. The original poll compares CGC 4.0 AF15 to CGC 9.6 TMNT1. If you ignore the grades, you're ignoring the actual comparison.
  5. Why the hell do you have to complicate things? Pat I'm a rebel, and I'll never ever be any good.
  6. No one named Spiderman feels bad about trading turtles for the grail.
  7. I traded my CGC 4.0 AF15 for CGC 9.6 TMNT 1. If you have checked my recent posts, you'll know that Spiderman-on-Tilt was the other party involved. He now has the CGC 4.0 AF15. IT IS NOT FOR SALE. For those of you attempting to obtain the book from him... kindly stop it. His name is Spiderman-on-Tilt, and I promise you, he doesn't want to sell his AF15. (He told me he's getting offers due to my post, and he wished I hadn't posted this topic and poll, so I'm partially responsible for annoying him and I'm trying to fix it.) I had two copies of AF15. The other is a CGC 2.0, but it was the first I ever bought, so I'm happy to keep it. Now, I also have CGC 9.6 TMNT 1. Why would I do this trade, which is so obviously lopsided against me? Well, first reason, because I had two copies of AF15 and none of TMNT 1. Second reason, because I bought the CGC 4.0 AF15 in 2009 for a normal 2009 GPA price of $5,200. In 2009, there was not a single sale of CGC 9.6 TMNT 1. None in 2008. The last CGC 9.6 sale in 2007 was for $9,668. What I could afford for AF15 for $5,200 in 2009 was barely half of a CGC 9.6 TMNT 1. Now I have the whole thing. Next point... A CGC 6.0 of TMNT 1 recently sold for $1,950. Name another key issue that sells for $1,950 in CGC 6.0 which can be purchased in CGC 9.6 for under $10,000. Go ahead. Try. Avengers 4 CGC 6.0 sells for $1,000... the 9.6 costs $20,000. 20 times higher. Batman 181 CGC 6.0 sells for $300... the 9.6 costs $4,200. 14 times higher. Batman 227 CGC 6.0 sells for $160... the 9.6 costs $2,000. 12 times higher. Fantastic Four 48 CGC 6.0 sells for $370... the 9.6 costs $3,700... 10 times higher. Hulk 181 CGC 6.0 sells for $700... the 9.6 costs $4,000. 6 times higher... and there are 217 of them, with 75 copies higher than 9.6. Amazing Fantasy CGC 6.0 sells for $18,000... the 9.6 costs a million dollars... 55 times higher. That's a special case, of course, but the CGC 9.0 AF15 costs $190,000... that's 10 times the 6.0. Let's face it... key books in 9.6 cost at least 10 times more than their 6.0 values... unless there are PLENTY available (Hulk 181). Even with Hulk 181, you're talking about 6 times the 6.0 value. TMNT CGC 6.0 sells for $1,950... the 9.6 costs under $8,000. 4 times higher. At 6 times higher, it's a $12,000 book. At 10 times higher, it's a $20,000 book. ON THE OTHER HAND... What determines the price of CGC 4.0 AF #15? Well, the 4.5... minus a little. What determines the price of CGC 4.5 AF #15? The 5.0... minus a little. 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, etc., etc., The value of Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 4.0 is capped by 13 higher grades... each capping the one just below it. The value of TMNT #1 CGC 9.6 is capped by one higher grade. I'm in the minority in my vote... but let's face it... there's a very good chance I win this... soon. I just traded a $5,200 investment... which has almost doubled... for a book that is valued about half of what it should be. Bargain. If not... I still have my other AF #15. I can't lose.
  8. Ah, the old age debate. Here are my choices: Comics from the 1930s --- we'll call them "the 1930s" Comics from the 1940s --- we'll call them "the 1940s" Comics from the 1950s --- we'll call them "the 1950s" Comics from the 1960s --- we'll call them "the 1960s" Comics from the 1970s --- we'll call them "the 1970s" Comics from the 1980s --- we'll call them "the 1980s" Comics from the 1990s --- we'll call them "the 1990s" Comics from the 2000s --- we'll call them "the 2000s" Comics from the 2010s --- we'll call them "the 2010s" It's crazy... it's nutty... but it just might work
  9. Vote for the one that's "got". There is no buyer or seller. If you could "get" one of the two, which would it be?
  10. This happened recently --- who got the better deal: CGC 4.0 Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 9.6 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1
  11. Any idea on the print run for this. I have a Standard catalog and it says capitol city :102,000 ordered? is this correct or where there other distribution. Standard Catalog says Capital City was 17% to 22% for Marvel in 1990-1991. Total print run of New Mutants #100 is likely 450,000 to 600,000.
  12. This is definitely the worst of the bunch . . . Moon Knight #55 still has value... so they got 1 out of 10.
  13. More please! 14. Wizard: The Guide to Comics turns 25 in 2016, and anything Wizard Top Ten said was hot... was once hot. (Even if it was mostly hype, those books were "wanted" for all the kids who didn't have them.) How many hundreds of thousands of teens were eating up Wizard in the early 1990s like it was candy? Before the internet... those monthly price guides WERE the market for kids. Anything we couldn't afford was a "someday I'll have it" kind of book. So, look at a bunch of the early Wizard Top Ten or Comic Watch lists... buy now... sell in 2 to 5 years. (Ignore anything with a million copies printed... literally, one million is too many.) That's what I've been doing with Valiant since 1997... I started the "rule of 25" in my head when the books were 6. Call it my "get-rich-quick-overnight-nineteen-year-plan". Not really. I'd have to sell to take advantage of the rule of 25. I'm something like 99% buy, 1% sell for 17 years in a row. I wanted the books, found Ebay when I was in college. Started my nostalgia early. But I have added some of the non-Valiant Wizard Top Ten books more recently... purely for nostalgia. Vengeance of Bane, ASM 361, Man of Steel 18, etc. I just lost on an auction for Moon Knight 55. Why would I want that? Because after 20 years, I remember that I never had it.
  15. Yep. An arm punches a wall. Three times. Break out the cash... it's such a treasure!
  16. I bid (and lost) on a case of Man of Steel #18 second prints on Ebay a few years ago. They went for a little over $2 each... shipped.
  17. It's also the case that many "foreign editions" are also reprints from months or years later than the originals. Canada excluded, of course, since a slight pricing difference was no problem and since many U.S. books were printed on Canadian equipment. I'm talking about the more "exotic" books like Poland, Greece, Italy, Phillipines, etc. While the Silver Age "pence copies" were printed on the same machines at the same time as the U.S. versions, a lot of the 1990s foreign editions were printed a year or two later, by a licensing company in each country (such as "Play Press" in Italy) and after the art and lettering could be changed, and probably after it was determined which books sold well enough to bother with foreign reprints. It's easy to wait a few months (or years) and see which books are worth licensing and reprinting in another language. Sure, there are foreign versions of Man of Steel #18, Spider-man #1, and Amazing Spider-man #300, but does anyone know if there are also foreign versions of nothing-happened books like Man of Steel #16, Spider-man #4, or Amazing Spider-man #302? I get the impression that foreign editions were mostly "wait-and-see, greatest hits, reprints". To get back to the Silver Age comparison, that makes 1990s foreign editions much closer to 1966 Golden Record Reprints than 1962 original pence copies.
  18. Definitely! .50c is the same as two-comics-for-a-penny. If he's charging 50cents per book, that's false advertising. Hand him a $5 bill and take the whole box.
  19. If the movie-makers were smart, they would ONLY show Doomsday's fist hitting a wall a couple of times after the credits. At that point, MOS 17 would contain the "full" first (movie) appearance of Doomsday.
  20. I usually do the same, however I like to wait til there is about 3 or 4 seconds left. I often win or I'm the underbidder. If you wait until 3 seconds left, you can ONLY be the winner or underbidder. (Unless there's some other fool who doesn't use sniping software bidding at the same time.) Sniping works... it saves money. Anyone who doesn't want to use it can spend their money any way they want... but they shouldn't tell themselves they're saving money or that their time sitting by the screen counting seconds isn't valuable. Snipe it. Set it. Forget it. Win it for less or someone outbids you. No sweat. Everything else is wasted time and money. (Ebay since 1997. (boom)) What about those that enjoy the auction game? Those who enjoy the auction game are the reason the rest of us snipe. Statements like: "I like to bid throughout the week" "I like to see if my bid is close to the high bidder's max" "I like to watch the price go up a little at a time" "I like to try to guess where an auction will end" Each of those just make the price higher if the bids are placed before the final seconds. So, there's no reason for the rest of us to bid until the final seconds... and there's no reason to sit and wait for the final seconds when a machine will do it for you.

  22. Was it before March 20, 1995? If so, that would be Winter 1995.
